Things That Make You Feel Old: Macaulay Culkin Turns 30

People will always remember Macaulay Culkin as the 9-year-old Kevin McCallister in Home Alone . But believe it or not, he turned 30 today…and that fact makes a lot of us feel old. Culkin’s name has stayed in the spotlight over the years. He sued his parents for mismanaging his money. And he was a close friend of the late Michael Jackson since his childhood. Many people don’t know that Culkin was married to actress Rachel Miner from 1998-2002. And somehow, he then landed Mila Kunis – Jackie from That 70’s Show. The couple have been dating since 2002. Despite getting arrested for weed and Xanax possession back in 2004, the former child star has stayed out of trouble for the most part. Post from: EveryJoe

Video: Miss Philippines is Perfect

In Miss Universe 2010, Miss Philippines was one of the favorites. She seemed well on her way to winning — until she was asked a question that completely stumped her: What major mistake had she made in her life. After thinking for a few seconds, Miss Universe said she’s perfect. That non-answer didn’t sit well with the Miss America judges and she ended up finishing fifth. Honestly, her answer didn’t surprise me. Most chicks think they’re perfect. In truth, none of them are perfect. Find a chick who doesn’t think she’s perfect and I’ll show you a liar. So by telling the truth, Miss Philippines was penalized. Not too fair, if you ask me. Who should she have answered the question? Should she have admitted a major mistake to a global audience. Was that the proper arena to take skeletons out of the closet? The correct answer was most likely some canned response about how her major mistake was not creating world peace by puberty. Anyways, here is the video of Miss Philippines telling the universe that she’s perfect: Post from: EveryJoe

NFL’s Big Mistake: 18 Games

NFL owners want to make more money — just like the rest of us. But they are making a mistake by pushing for a schedule that includes 18 regular season games. Yes, we all hate preseason NFL games but the solution isn’t adding even more bruising to the already hellish physical toll the players put on the body each and every season. The latest news has NFL owners pushing for the 18-game schedule as of the 2012 season. Here are five reasons why this is a mistake: 1. Too Many Injuries Each NFL season is impacted by injuries. Adding two more games to a season will create a significant increase in injuries — especially late in the season with players who aren’t used to playing so much football. 2. Statistics Ruined Season records will never be the same. Career records will need asterisks. Basically, it’ll be a mess. 3. Watered Down Talent If more games are added to the schedule, the active rosters will be expanded. Expanded rosters will cause the talent in the league to be watered down. 4. Americans Don’t Want More Right now isn’t the time to add more to our plate. Paying for more regular season games isn’t possible with the downturn in the economy. Plus, our attention span can only take so much. 5. Too Much Tanking If you think tanking is bad now, wait until an 18-game schedule is put into affect. Teams could conceivably lock up a playoff spot and go on vacation for a month at the end of the season. How to Repaint a Room in a Weekend

With struggling economy, many people are choosing D-I-Y home improvement projects, rather than paying the professionals. One way to give your home a fresh upgrade without spending a bundle is through interior painting. Debbie Zimmer, spokesperson for the Paint Quality Institute , offers these tips to save you time and money. Check out this advice on how to repaint a room in a weekend. Image: PaintQuality.com 1. Get all of your furniture out of the way by moving it to the center of the room, using plastic sliders on heavy items so you don’t have to lift them. Cover everything with plastic, blankets, or old sheets. Then, put down drop-cloths to protect your floors from stray droplets of paint. 2. Scrub all the surfaces you’ll be painting with a sponge and mild household detergent solution before going to the paint store. That will give them time to dry while you’re out shopping. 3. Making multiple trips to the paint store can consume gobs of time, so try to do all of your shopping in just one visit. Before leaving your home, see what painting tools and accessories you have on hand, then create a shopping list. . . or save even more time by going to www.paintquality.com to download a helpful checklist. 4. Buy technologically-advanced top quality 100% acrylic latex interior paint. These durable paints, some of which serve double-duty as both primer and paint, are better at hiding the color that’s underneath. As a result, you may need to apply just a single coat – saving you not only time and effort, but money as well. 5. Tape the edges of the surfaces you’ll be painting to enable you to apply the paint faster. You’ll quickly recover the time spent doing this. And taping will make your finished paint job look a lot neater. 6. Work “top down”: paint the ceiling; then the walls; next, the windows and trim; and, lastly, the baseboards. Following this sequence will help keep just-painted surfaces free of paint spatter or drip marks and cut down time spent on touch-up work. 7. When painting a ceiling or wall, start by “cutting in” a corner section with a paintbrush, applying a 3” band of paint around the edge. This will enable you to quickly fill in the area with a paint roller. Repeat this process in 3-foot increments. 8. Apply the paint liberally. Trying to “stretch” your paint by applying a thin coat is false economy: You might end up needing a second coat to completely hide the original color. 9. Assuming that you purchased top quality 100% acrylic latex paint, your cleanup will be a snap. Being water-based, these paints can be quickly and easily cleaned off of brushes and rollers with plain soap and water. 10. The last time-saver when using top quality latex paint? Not having to wait for the “paint smell” to go away. Eco-friendly latex paints have very little odor, so you can put a freshly-painted room back into service right away. Post from: EveryJoe

How Braves Blew Nine Run Lead

Every game is important for the Atlanta Braves right now. As it stands, the Braves hold a 2.5-game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. That’s why Wednesday’s loss stings so much. After holding a nine-run lead over the Colorado Rockies, the Braves fell asleep. The Rockies stormed back to win by a final count of 12-10. How did it happen? Following a two-run homer by Omar Infante in the third inning, the Braves were up 10-1. But then the Rockies got rolling. Ian Stewart started it off with a sac fly in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Dexter Fowler hit a triple with two players on base — and then scored on an error. With the score 10-5, Sean Smith made it 10-6 with an RBI double in the sixth. Later in the same inning, Ryan Spilborghs hit a two-run double to make it 10-8. To tie the game, Carlos Gonzalez hit a single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Troy Tulowitzki gave the Rockies the lead with a single and then Todd Helton added an insurance run with another single in the eighth. … and that’s all she wrote for the Braves and their nine-run lead. The Colorado Rockies had an epic comeback (Image: TSN.ca) Post from: EveryJoe

Eric Gordon Leads Team USA over Greece

The casual NBA fan has no idea who Eric Gordon is — mostly due to the fact that he plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. However, that may be changing. Eric Gordon is making a name for himself on Team USA. On Wednesday, Gordon led past Greece by pouring in 18 points in only 21 minutes, while shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point land. Thanks to Gordon’s strong play, Team USA beat Greece by a final score of 87-59. Kevin Durant had 15 points and seven rebounds. Derrick Rose (13) and Kevin Love (10) were the other Americans in double figures. Kostas Tsartsaris led the way for Greece with 24 points. Unfortunately for Tsartsaris, he didn’t get any help. No other player on Greece scored more than eight points and while Tsartsaris was 9-for-12 from the field, the rest of the team was 11-for-37. No the games will begin to count for Team USA. Though this American squad is small and inexperienced, they have made great strides in recent weeks and look to be a powerful favorite heading into the basketball World Championship. Here’s a video of Eric Gordon and Team USA as they took down Greece: Post from: EveryJoe
