It took 16 innings for the Houston Astros to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies. But the biggest storyline of the game wasn’t the score, rather it was the fact that Roy Oswalt played left field for part of the contest. You can see the video of Oswalt playing in the outfield below. The Phillies needed Oswalt to play left field after Ryan Howard was ejected by the third base umpire. Raul Ibanez then had to move from left field to first base. With no more position players on the bench, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel had to do something … and he decided to put Oswalt into the game as an outfielder. Oswalt is a very good athlete (for a pitcher, at least) so the move made sense. It didn’t take long for Oswalt to be tested in the field. After the ball was hit to him and he made a routine catch, Oswalt got a round of applause from the home crowd. Some basketball experts thought that Yao Ming would never play in the NBA again after suffering yet another foot injury. Those worries seem to be off-base after the Houston Rockets have cleared their Chinese center to resume basketball-related activities. The Rockets now believe that Yao will be able to start the regular season on the active roster. Said Yao: “I am very excited. I am just looking forward to playing a great season. I think I can count on my foot now.” In the 2008-09 season, Yao was able to play in 77 regular season games and average 19.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. However, the 7-foot-5 center hurt his foot in the playoffs and missed the entire 2009-10 campaign. But in the latest episode of “Shaq vs.”, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley decided to compete on the golf course. Barkley recently trained with Hank Haney, the former swing coach of Tiger Woods, on “The Hank Haney Project” — a show on the Golf Channel — so he’s obviously not new to the game. In fact, now that he’s retired from the NBA, you can either find the Chuckster gambling or playing golf. Shaq, being the ever-confident athlete he is, made fun of Barkley’s swing and challenged him to a round of golf. In the “Shaq VS.” episode, the two giants settled their differences with golf clubs in hand. At the end of the episode, Shaq had to make a put to beat Charles Barkley — and he did! Jack DeCoster is the bad boy of the egg industry. He and his egg businesses have been getting in trouble with local, state and national agencies for nearly 20 years. Animal abuse allegations, illegal workers, sexual harassment charges and unsafe work conditions are just some of the violations Jack Decoster has faced over the years. However, the recent salmonella scare has Jack DeCoster in extremely hot water. The salmonella scare has forced the recall of a countless number of eggs and has put DeCoster back under the microscope. He has already been fined millions of dollars. In the next few weeks, he will undoubtedly face millions more in fines. There’s even talk of removing DeCoster and his businesses from the egg industry. More than 1,000 cases of salmonella poisoning have already been reported. The type of food poisoning, which can be fatal, has symptoms that include fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. “When issues have been raised about our farms, our management team has addressed them swiftly and effectively, working with recognized outside experts to identify and establish corrective measures for our operations. We are approaching our work with FDA in the same forthright manner,” said Hinda Mitchell of Wright County Egg, a company owned by Jack DeCoster, in a press release. Traffic sucks. However, you haven’t seen traffic like this epic traffic jam in China. This Chinese traffic jam has lasted more than ten days — TEN DAYS! And there is no end in sight! That makes even the worst traffic jam in the United States seem like a walk in the park. The amazing traffic jam in China is blamed on a combination of stalled vehicles and road construction. Look below to view a video of the traffic jam and see how the drivers pass the time. Some play games while others huddle in camps. It appears as if food has been taken off of the trucks stuck in traffic and handed out to the drivers. This traffic jam stretches for about 60 miles in Inner Mongolia. It’s unknown when the traffic jam will end. The Chinese government is saying that the construction will continue until September 17th. Traffic jams are going to get more and more popular in China. It is estimated that 2,000 cars a day are added to the roads in Beijing alone. That said, people will start walking or riding bikes if the alternative is another unending traffic jam. Mark Ingram does a good imitation of Tiger Woods. No, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner isn’t getting a divorce. In the video below, you can see Mark Ingram doing golf tricks a la Tiger Woods in his famous commercial. Ingram begins the video by bouncing a golf ball on his club. He then balances the golf ball on his club before going between the legs on a bounce. His next trick is to attempt to bounce the golf ball and then drive it. The video ends with Mark Ingram sending a standard drive down the golf course. We know the Alabama running back is a gifted football player. We didn’t know he also had talent on the golf course. That said, Ingram’s future is in the NFL, not the PGA Tour. Can Mark Ingram win a second straight Heisman Trophy? Can he lead his Alabama squad to a second straight national championship? Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren have officially completed their divorce. Once Elin found out about Tiger’s cheating, she left and never came back. As for Tiger, he’s now single once again. That said, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Tiger is going to lay low for a couple months. Actually, make that a couple years. Tiger and Elin released a short statement through their lawyers: “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future.” According to various reports, Elin got about $750 million in the divorce. For her, marrying Tiger turned out to be a rather good investment. Since the sex scandal, Tiger’s golf game has really suffered. He hasn’t won anything and he looks like a shadow of his former self. It’ll be interesting to see if Tiger’s game improves or continues to decline now that he’s single. Next time, Tiger, think about a pre-nup. Also, be more careful about sand traps. Tyler Patrick Thomas, an offensive lineman for the Oregon State Beavers, was kicked off the team after being arrested and charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. The 19-year-old was discovered by police in a stranger’s house while clearly intoxicated and clearly naked. Thomas tried to tackle police using his football skills. The police responded by using a taser guns on him and hauling him away. He has since been released from Benton County jail. From Kalispell, Montana, Thomas redshirted last year for the Beavers. Interestingly enough, his brother (Connor Thomas), has committed to play for Oregon State next season. Mike Riley, the head coach of the Beavers, has reportedly told Connor that his brother getting arrested doesn’t change his status with the team.
