Millions of eggs are being recalled from an Iowa egg company, Wright County Egg — one of the nation’s largest egg producers. Initially, they recalled 228 million eggs which were distributed across the nation. However on Tuesday, NuCal Foods recalled millions more eggs that it had purchased from the Iowa company. sxc.hu Hundreds of people have been reportedly sickened by the eggs with initial cases of Salmonella enteritidis in Californa, Colorado and Minnesota. The CDC, FDA and state health officials are now investigating even more salmonella outbreaks in Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas to see if the eggs are the cause. The eggs were sold under the labels of Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps, as well as NuCal added Bayview, Mountain Dairy, NuLay and Sun Valley to the list of brands. If you are unsure if you have any of the recalled eggs, use better judgement and throw them out. The eggs come in 6-, 12- and 18-egg cartons with Julian dates ranging from 136 to 225 and plant numbers 1026, 1413 and 1946. These dates and codes can be found stamped on the end of the egg carton. The plant number begins with the letter P and then the number. The Julian date (the numeric date of the year that the eggs were packaged) follows the plant number, for example: P-1026 143. Visit FDA.gov for more information about the recalled eggs. Post from: EveryJoe
