Starhawk Beta Is Going Public Tuesday Jan 17th!

The Starhawk beta is going public on the 17th! The public testing will allow the team to work out bugs and server issues as well as allow the public to get on what has otherwise been a closed beta up until now. Who gets in, and when? (North American Starhawk Beta schedule) PlayStation Plus January 17: All PlayStation Plus subscribers and all Private Beta participants (who haven’t erased their original Private Beta files). You can learn more about PS Plus here. Starhawk UC3 Voucher January 31: UNCHARTED 3 Beta key holders. These voucher codes were found inside of North American copies of UNCHARTED 3. FB February 7: Visit GameStop and PlayStation on Facebook and see how you can get early voucher codes. IGN February 14: IGN.com (details to be revealed soon) LOGO-PSN stacked vert pos copy copy February 21: Everyone with a PlayStation Network account…in other words, everyone who wants in, gets Beta FAQ If I was in the Private Beta, am I in the Public Beta? If you were in the Private Beta, you are in the Public Beta for the duration. DO NOT delete the Private Beta file from your PS3 or else you won’t have access. Worse, you will be…unhappy. Is this a demo? This is NOT a demo. You can expect to find bugs and the vast majority of the game features planned for the final game will not be implemented. Of course, many of you will not read this sentence and will expect the Beta to be final quality. We ask that the community help itself and remind players that this is a test. It happens to be a pretty fun test, but it is a test regardless. Keep an open mind and we’ll continue to regularly update the Beta with changes based directly on your feedback. Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to help make games? This is your chance! When does the Public Beta end? When the game is good and ready! Honestly, when we’ve learned all we can and feel we can deliver the best product to you. Basically, sometime after February 21st, BUT it’s our recommendation that you do not delay joining or you might find your window of opportunity passing you by. What’s different from the Private Beta? We’re going to reveal more about the content updates soon enough. Patience, Padawan… Will you test out the solo campaign? Nope! The Public Beta is solely based around the multiplayer experience. While we have a robust solo story campaign in the final game, we can get our testing done elsewhere for that. How do you send us feedback? This is very important…to give us feedback, please visit http://us.playstation.com/psn/ and use your PSN login to enter the Beta forums. If you are in the Beta, you can enter the forums. Remember though…with Beta testing comes Beta responsibility. We are on these forums hourly looking for bug info, so please use this. We need your help and this is the best way to give us info. Poll Results and a Quick Update

Results As you know, for the past few weeks, we’ve had the same poll running, since we usually change it when I do the Weekly Recap. Unfortunately, this past few weeks have been very hard on me to find the time to do the recaps and thus, the poll has not been updated. I hope to get back to doing the recaps soon, but I do have a couple polls in the next tab for you folks to partake in, one being the site poll and another about the Weekly Recap. As for this tab, the focus is on the previous poll. We asked “What do you look for in Collector’s/Limited Editions?” and, finally, the results are in . Unsurprisingly, someone added “All of the Above” and it got the most votes, despite most CE and LE games rarely coming with everything listed. Anyway, second highest was DLC content, which is always nice (but that DLC usually winds up on the store anyway). Statues and figurines came in third, which I find a little surprising, considering those are rarer and more collectable than the DLC. What actually surprised me most was how low art books and soundtracks were voted, even getting less votes than those who weren’t interested in collector editions. Although, if you combine the two and include them with the “Art Books AND Soundtracks”, it would have far surpassed it. New Poll First of all, the second poll is mainly for me, as I am asking whether or not you would like to see me do a recap of the past 5-6 weeks that I missed or start off on a clean slate. Anyway, since I don’t award myself points for poll ideas, I’ll grab one from our Poll Ideas thread in the forums. I used Cheeto ‘s idea because it was one I don’t think we’ve used before. I will get to others in the future, but for the poll idea being used, he will get an extra 200 points! He asks what people’s main reason for buying PSN games is. Since there might be more than these reasons, I left the option to add your own answers. What is the Deciding Factor for a PSN Purchase? Quality Demo All of the Above Price Favorite Publisher/Developer Specific Genre Favorable Reviews PSN Exclusive Not Interested in PSN Games Add an Answer View Results How Should We Do the Next Recap? Battlefield 3 [What We Know So Far]

Battlefield 3 is easily one of the most anticipated games this year. It is the direct sequel to the 2005 hit, Battlefield 2, and arguably the eleventh installment in the Battlefield franchise. Developed by the Swedish company Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and published by Electronic Arts , the game will run on the new Frostbyte 2 engine. Frostbyte 2 will offer more destruction, advanced sound, and incredible graphics. A new character animation technology called ANT, used in games such FIFA, will be implemented into the gameplay. ANT will offer a more realistic player movement mechanics; for example, the ability to transition into cover, turn head before body and mount weapons on almost any surface you encounter. The battlefield series was always known for the huge multiplayer battles, allowing players to pilot a variety of vehicles and engage in team-based combat. Battlefield 3 will offer all of the previous … and more. The Campaign The Campaign: Set in the year 2014, You will take control of Sgt. Blackburn and his five-man squad on a mission to locate and return a second squad that had disappeared while investigating a possible chemical weapons site in the Iraq-Iran Boarder. The last known location of the investigation squad is a market controlled by a local militia group named People’s Liberation and Resistance (PLR). The second playable character in the campaign is Corporal Jonathan “Jono” Miller, a tank operator seen in the famous tank battle video from E3. Miller will be part of a tank assault operation on a PLR rocket battery site before advancing to what appears to be a burning city. Don’t expect much use of Vehicles during the campaign though, as they will be limited. In a pre GDC 2011 interview for GamesOnNet, DICE general manager Karl Troedsson mentioned that the campaign will be within the 12-hour figure. A lot of people don’t want to jump straight into multiplayer. They want to feel around a bit and they’re ready to move over to online. We’ve also learned why you can’t shoot civilians in Battlefield 3. In an interview with RockPaperShotgun.com , Battlefield 3′s executive producer Patrick Bach talked about the level of authenticity in the game, and he mentioned that players won’t be able to shoot civilians accidentally or intentionally. Co-Op Co-op Mode: A co-op debut demo with the mission “Exfiltration”, a mission with the task of snatching an informant and escorting him out of the city, was shown in Gamescom 2011. As far as we know, the mode will consist of ten maps with Six missions available at launch. The missions will have different difficulty levels and achievements and Each map should take between 20 and 50 minutes depending on the difficulty. Players will be able to revive their downed partner, and downed players will still be able to defend themselves with the secondary weapon and possibly crawling to cover. It is worth mentioning that the driven co-op missions will benefit your multiplayer career, as there are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the multiplayer mode. In an interview with Gaminglives.com , DICE GM Karl Magnus confirmed that co-op won’t support split screen play, however DICE noted that their new “FREE” Battlelog network will be connected to co-op matches and will allow players to check their friends score and track their performance. Multiplayer Multiplayer mode: The console version will feature 24 players battles with Four classes available to choose from: Assault, Support, Engineer and Recon. The assault class will be able to equip defibrillators and medkits. The engineer class ‘ primary role is to engage tanks and armored vehicles with an array of rocket launchers or anti tank mines (and to repair team vehicles). The recon class will be able to install a radio beacon anywhere on the map for other players to spawn on and call in artillery strikes, and, finally, the support class will provide heavy fire from a Light Machine gun and resupply teammates with ammunition. Several BF2 maps will return with “Back to Karkand” DLC (Available for free upon pre-order). The maps are: Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island, and Sharqi Peninsula. As for the game modes, we can confirm Conquest, Conquest 64 (PC only), Rush, Squad Deathmatch, Squad Rush and the new/old mode to the series, Team Deathmatch. Battlefield 3 will offer more weapons and customization than Bad Company 2. For a full list of the weapons and vehicles available in Battlefield 3, refer to this post , but note that unlocking some of the weapons will depend on your rank progression throughout the multiplayer mode, as you won’t unlock all weapons before reaching med-rank, which was the case in Bad Company 2. Killcam will be available in Battlefield 3 and you will be able to turn it on and off, depending on the server settings. The Beta The Beta: The open beta is scheduled to start this month on all platforms. 48 hour early access will be granted to those who bought Medal of Honor: Limited Edition or Tier 1 edition. The exact date of the beta will also be announced this month. For more info and common questions regarding Battlefield 3 beta, check out this link . The game is set to be released on October 25, 2011. For more information on the pre-order exclusives check out our other post .
