It’s been over a decade since Tecmo’s fast paced fighter graced a Sony home console. Dead or Alive is my second most favorite fighting game right after Tekken and as a fan of the genre DOA 4 was the only game that made me grab a 360 controller so I was pretty excited when Tecmo announced Dead or Alive 5 will be available on BOTH the PS3 and 360 in 2012. Here’s a look at the pre-alpha version of Dead or Alive 5 revealed during last week’s Tokyo Game Show: With Dead or Alive 5, Soul Calibur V, Street Fighter x Tekken, Virtua Fighter Final Showdown and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arriving next year, 2012 is going to continue where 2011 left off in terms of excellent fighting games.

Here is the newest trailer for the third game in my all time favorite PSN franchise, DeathSpank. “The Baconing is an action RPG which stars everyone’s favorite Vanquisher of Evil, DeathSpank. The story revolves around DeathSpank wearing all six Thongs of Virtue which unfortunately summons an evil version of himself in the AntiSpank. Now our hero must seek out the Fires of Bacon and burn five of the Thongs, which will allow him to weaken and defeat the evil giant, bringing peace back to Spanktopia.” As part of the PSN Play Promotion , if you pre-order now through August 25th you will get an exclusive The Baconing PS3 static theme as well as an additional sidekick character with Roesha – One Bad Mutha. PlayStation Plus members also get a 20% discount on their pre-order purchase. Hit the jump for more details on what’s been added/changed in this third game. Mechanics you now have a shield bash, charged crossbows and perfect reflect. The bash allows you to control the battlefield as you can knock enemies away from your position. In addition, if you bash at the correct time when an enemy is firing a projectile at you, you can reflect it back at them taking it out, which is our perfect reflect. The charged crossbows offer a risk/reward system where you give up movement to charge up more powerful attacks. Environment wise we have added cover. These allow you to quickly take refuge to recover. You can also use these to stay hidden from enemies and land a first strike. In addition, users will notice collections of buffed barrels in the world which offer you the chance to land crippling blows to enemies. But be careful, the enemy can use them against you as well. From the AI standpoint, we spoke with fans early on and players were asking for more of a challenge so now they have it! The AI has more brain power now, as ranged enemies for example will strafe on your position as you take cover. The AI attacks quicker and more often now as well and with more damaging effects. Battles are far more engaging now and make for more enjoyable gameplay experiences. The game length for The Baconing is more in line with the first game, we made sure to retain the same value and quality for the experience. And if you actually dare to try the Insane Mode, I would wager you will be spending a few more hours in the game. All enemies projectiles are now visible, so you can see what is going to hit you and when it will hit you as well. We removed the invisible gun bullets since it seemed unfair and not obvious to the user. To help give you time to eat or drink a potion in gameplay, as I stated above, we have cover objects in the game. If you are low on health, dart behind cover, eat something or pound back a health potion, and then pop up and take down those pesky ranged enemies. The cover addition, really improves your choice and options in a fight and no longer will you need to run away. Potions and our market in the game have been reworked. The pricing and economy is tuned and works much better this time around. And as far as getting lost, we have worked very hard on making maps and areas that are fun to adventure around but not confusing. I had the same issue when I joined the company to work on the game and I am happy to say, you really get to know the worlds this time around just like the streets in the city you live. We made it a point to remove senseless fetch quests in the game. With DeathSpank being a hero, the user should feel that they are doing heroic things and not fetching lost tackle boxes and records that people have lost. The quests you take part in this time around focus on a bigger goal such as locating secret codes for entry into an ancient complex or figuring out how to try and reprogram a replicating machine to move past a portal. When we spoke with the community through our website and forums early on, people asked for fetch quests to be kept at a minimum and we have taken the time to make sure that the quests you head out on have importance and value in terms of what a hero should be doing. And there are a few funny ones in there too, just wait until you meet the Red Princess! Source: Official PS Blog

DeathSpank 3: The Baconing is Going to be Great!
I’m still continuing the tradition of getting a caricature done for official writers of PS3Blog.net, this is something that Henning (aka Blackstaffer) started. In the past 2 months EdEN has reviewed 12 games for PS3Blog.net which is an impressive feat. I enjoy reading his reviews; it’s like I’m right there playing the game. I’m looking forward to more reviews and posts from EdEN in the future. He joined the site on February 4th, 2010 and his first post was in September 2010. He quickly climbed the points later and currently sits at the number #7 spot. He’s also known as the Resident Nintendo Nutjob on PS3Blog.net but he also loves the PS3. It was a long time coming but now he’s officially part of the team. His bio is after the jump. You can also view it on the about us page. Welcome aboard EdEN! EdEN – Contributing Editor UTC -8 I am lawyer, hear me roar! EdEN here, Resident Nintendo Nutjob extraordinaire and owner of Sony products around his place. Started to get my gaming fix back in the day thanks to the awesomeness of Pong Home Consoles (one game only… and we liked it!) before moving on to the Atari 2600 for a couple of years and then graduating to the NES and never looking back. What consoles and portables do I own you say? Here, let me tell you them! I’ve got and Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, PSX, PSX Slim, Dreamcast, GC, PS2, PS2 Slim, 2 Wii and a PS3 on the console front and a GB, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, GB Micro, DS, DS Lite, DSi and PSP 3000 on the portable side of gaming. 900 games strong and counting with a backlog of over 100! I believe in giving every game a fighting chance and try to keep a lot of variety in the list of games I review or that I play just for fun (without a deadline!) and know that having other consoles options is great for the gaming industry as competition always bring the best in people (just ask all olympic athletes and hobos). I work hard for my money (so you better treat me right!). What do I spend that money on? The usual: food, clothes, cosmic cubes, clothing, gas, miniature tyrannic overlords, electricity and lots of hobbies. Comic books, DVDs and Blurays (new technology is always welcome) mostly, as well as lots of figurines and statues and original comic pages acquired during the yearly pilgrimage to the doors of the San Diego Comic Con to leave my offering of $5,000 in several $20, $50 and $100 bills all tied with a blood red bow to please the gods. Running out of space at my place so I think I’ll have to get rid of most of our furniture to make room for all my essential purchases in the years to come!

Please Welcome EdEN To The PS3Blog.net Team!
When we have giveaways active on the site, I will set up a giveaway section on our Facebook page that shows up on the left. At the bottom, you will see a “Enter Contest” button, but this button will only show up if you’re a fan of PS3Blog.net on Facebook . All you need to do is be logged into PS3Blog.net & Facebook and click the button and it will automatically donate 10 points for you, and that will count as your Facebook entry for that specific giveaway. This is counted as an extra entry in the lottery, so if the lottery says it allows 3 entries, that means 3 entries at 150 points each. Then you can get a bonus Facebook entry for 10 points. The first giveaway to take advantage of this new system is the Tekken Blu-ray , so be sure to enter that.

Facebook Entries for Giveaways has Changed
Yes, it is finally here! For those who have been waiting for our first GT5 tournament since its original announcement in December , I have finally gotten around to getting everything set up. If you remember, it was supposed to have taken place on the 26th of December, but my PS3 had YLOD’d on the 25th, hence the name of the tournament. With that said, since the game has received numerous updates since then, there have been a few changes made to it that I think will be of great benefit for the community (the performance points system, for instance, will now allow you more freedom in car choice). We also have a couple more prize cars to throw in there, as well as points for the site and everything. Be sure to check after the jump for a shot of the prize cars, as well as the rules. Now, our very first tournament is set to go on July 24th, 8:00PM UK time (3PM Eastern, 12PM Pacific, pending any other possible plans between now and then). The prizes are as follows: First place will receive the Race Modded 2009 ZR1 Corvette Second place will receive the Race Modded 2010 Camaro SS Third place will receive the Race Modded 2000 TVR Tuscan Speed 6 Points will be determined based on number of entries, but first place could, potentially, win 1000 points, with each successive placement receiving incrementally less. Everyone will receive 150 participation points regardless (but you must show up and race in ALL races). A separate points system will be implemented by me for tracking purposes like points in real events (100 for first, etc. Most points at the end of the tournament will be declared winner). Depending on the number of entrants for the tournament, it might be set up in a bracket style, with each bracket consisting of two different series of races. Don’t worry, though, as I haven’t picked any ridiculously long courses. Anyway, vehicle restrictions: Performance Points limited to 500 Tires are Unrestricted No Skid Recovery Force No Active Steering No Active Stability Management No Traffic Control System (pending majority decision) No Driving Line (pending majority decision) Anti-lock Brake System OK You can use any modifications, as long as you stay within the 500pp limit. Each race will consist of 5 laps, with a total of 5 races (per bracket at least). Each race will, of course, be grid start, but will be in revere order from the previous race’s results (in other words, if you got 1st place in one race, you will start in last on the next). As for the list of tracks, this will be our main list: Grand Valley Speedway Mazda Raceway/Laguna Seca Special Stage Route 5 Cape Ring Periphery Suzuka Circuit In case we need another set of races Trial Mountain Fuji Speedway Circuito de Madrid Autumn Ring Nurburgring GP/F And finally, the actual race settings: Boost will be Off Strong Penalties (so as to avoid cheating) Real Grip Reduction Heavy Mechanical Damage Tire Wear and Fuel Consumption On If you’re interested, all I need to know is your PSN Name, and your location. If we need to break up the entrants into brackets, I would like to do UK/EU players first, so any eliminations from those regions will be done first (because of time zone differences). I will only be spectating the races, though, so I can monitor you guys and make sure there’s no cheating to ensure a fair tournament. Please acknowledge your entry by July 20th At that time, I will post a final entry list, and any new details if needed. Thank you for your patience in waiting for this announcement. I am very excited to be hosting the very first one! Next month, though, it will likely be a 2-3 hour endurance, so prepare for that, too.

It seems that a Tweet out of emotion just cost a PR Company its job. The Redner Group, 2K Games PR company, Tweeted the following yesterday in response to many negative reviews for Duke Nukem: “Too many went too far with their reviews…we are reviewing who gets games next time and who doesn’t based on today’s venom” “Bad scores are fine. Venom filled reviews…that’s completely different” They then apologized for the Tweet: “I have to apologize to the community. I acted out of pure emotion. I will be sending each of you a private apology.” “I need to state for the record that 2K had nothing to do with this. I will be calling each of you tomorrow to apologize.” “Again, I want everyone to know that I was acting on my own. 2K had nothing to do with this. I am so very sorry for what I said.” 2KGames just responded with the following Tweets: “2K Games does not endorse or condone the comments made by @TheRednerGroup and confirm they no longer represent our products.” “We maintain a mutually respectful relationship with the press and will continue to do so. We don’t condone @TheRednerGroup’s actions at all.” Next time someone gets angry, I’d recommend deep breaths and counting to 10 before tweeting something that will get you fired.

You’re strolling down the street and walk past your local games store. You notice a game that takes your fancy and think about buying it – but hang on, you’re the extra cautious type that won’t part with your money that easily. Before the guy in the game store robs you of your hard earned cash (or your parent’s hard earned cash), you decide to check out the game online, to see what everyone’s saying about it. This way you get to learn whether your cash was either well spent, or dumped down the drain. Reviews. One word that makes all the difference. The one word that decides whether you keep your money safely where it belongs or whether you hand it over the counter and get your shiny new game in a cheap plastic bag. I love reading reviews, and more often, I love writing them. However, there’s always that one question I keep asking myself – what do the readers want to read about when we’re reviewing a game? The pressure is on to write an honest review, you just don’t want to disappoint. I wish I was telepathic just like Mel Gibson in What Women Want – and to make sure the facts remain straight, I was forced to watch that flick. You don’t know what my missus is like – brutal! To make life a lot easier for us who like to err..review games, I would like to ask you – our beloved friends and readers – what do you want to read in a review? Do you want to know about the animations, soundtracks? I want to know those itty bitty little things that most reviewers miss out but you want to know about it. Even if your comments are about general things like Graphics, Gameplay, Completion Time, etc – I STILL want to know about it. So please, our beloved community – let me hear those lovely words of wisdom – below.
The collection consists of seven pre-order klassic character skins for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Mileena, Jade and Kitana and klassic fatalities for Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The pack will be available starting June 7th, pending the PSN returns, for $4.99 on the PlayStation Network.
