It’s no secret that the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV has been plagued by negative press by both players an critics alike. The mmorpg currently has a Metacritic rating of 51% due to numerous poor reviews by sites like IGN ( 5.5 ), Gamespot ( 4.0 ) and 1UP ( D+.) User reviews of the game left on Amazon Japan and several other online retailers in the country were equally unfavorable. It’s been over two months since the game was released but today it appears that Square Enix is finally ready to attempt to fix a game that some have labeled as one of the biggest disappointments of the year. The President and CEO of the company announced on the Lodestone FFXIV player website that steps are in place to fix the PC version of the game. These steps include new leadership and a restructured development team as the previous producer of the game,Hiromichi Tanaka, has stepped down. Square Enix President/CEO Yoichi Wada: “Regarding the PlayStation 3, it is not our wish to release a simple conversion of the Windows version in its current state, but rather an update that includes all the improvements we have planned. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of the PlayStation 3 version beyond the originally announced date of March 2011.” FFXIV’s new producer/director, Naoki Yoshida, also stated that the “PlayStation 3 release will be delayed until we are confident that the game has reached the level of enjoyability and service befitting the FINAL FANTASY name for users on all supported platforms.” It’s unclear how long the release of the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV will be in limbo but, in the meantime, PC gamers have been granted with an extended free-trial period of the game. Head over to Loadstone for more details.

According to Vgchartz , they have estimated that GT5 has sold 1.8 million units worldwide in 2 days. That would put it at the 5th fastest selling PS3 game ever only to be beaten by Black Ops, Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy XIII and Grand Theft Auto 4.

thegameheadz claim to have spoken to a Sony rep at a recent even in which info on remakes of the Final Fantasy series and the Metal Gear series are about to get a blu-ray collection and fans will love it. It will be no surprise if it happens as the recent collections have been very successful. Now its just a waiting game to see if our favorite series get a blu-ray collection. ‘The industry’s best developers are ReMastering their best games. Prince of Persia, Shadow of Colossus, and ICO are just the beginning. When fans see what Konami’s doing to the Metal Gear series, and what Square’s doing with Final Fantasy, they’re going to be very happy.’

Here is a pretty interesting interview I found on Joystiq with Ben Jones who is the Systems and Level Designer for MAG. He talks about the integration of MAG and the PlayStation MOVE and how it takes him back to playing shooters on the PC with a Keyboard and Mouse. Not sure how many of you have even tried the game with MOVE support, but just by watching this interview it makes me want to run out and pick up the game so I can try it out with my Nav and MOVE controller, especially now that the game is only 30 bucks.

“Final Fantasy Dissidia 2 – Duodecim” Announced for PSP
When Sucker Punch first made public their plans to redesign InFAMOUS’ leading man Cole McGarath for the upcoming sequel, I personally didn’t have a problem with the change. According to Sucker Punch the decision for the change was because of their desire to make Cole a more like able character and not a “gravelly voiced un-emotional guy” as correctly described MAINEiac4434 Unfortunately a lot of other gamers didn’t like Cole’s new look and expressed their discontent. It’s because of this that Sucker Punch apparently is rethinking the pretty boy Cole and is considering going back to the old, gritty Cole. When I first heard this news I was kind of upset that Sucker Punch would let the a few angry bellyachers sway them but as time passed it dawned on me…. this is actually a positive turn of events. The fact that Sucker Punch is willing to listen to their fans and capitulate is great news for gamers. How many big named gaming companies actually listen to the people that are basically keeping them in business? How long have fans’ demands for a Final Fantasy VII remake fallen on deaf ears? Granted recreating a 13 year old game is more complicated and time consuming than changing up a character model. Still it’s refreshing to see that gamers do have a voice in the industry and that someone is listening. As for Cole’s continuous changes, I still prefer the new version over the bald, bland, boring Cole. I’ll be happy if Sucker Punch can come up with a combination of the two but I doubt that will satisfy everyone. Either way InFAMOUS 2 is still going to be a must have game of 2011.

Looking on the Bright Side
It’s good to see that companies like Sony and Square-Enix are beginning to realize that Americans love lots of collector’s items packed in their games as much as Japanese gamers do. Let’s just hope that companies continue to do so. Let’s begin with Little Big Planet 2 first which has been announced to be released on November 16 at select retailers at $79.99. They are also stressing that it’s going to be a limited run. The collection will include: A copy of Little Big Planet 2 A set of Little Big Planet 2 book ends or “game ends” A 7” Sackboy plushie One stop shop for DLC + more- and in regards to in-game content, the Collector’s Edition comes with 11 different pre-order costumes that includes (which can also be received in the regular release version, in different combinations, depending on where you pre-order the game): Disney / Pixar’s Toy Story 3’s “Aliens” Sackboy Costume Disney’s TRON: Legacy “Clu” Sackboy Costume The Muppets’ “The Great Gonzo” Sackboy Costume PlayStation’s “Ratchet” Sackboy Costume PlayStation’s “Clank” Sackboy Costume Even More Animals’ “Crocodile” Sackboy Costume Even More Animals’ “Vulture” Sackboy Costume Even More Animals’ “Cobra” Sackboy Costume Even More Animals’ “Mandrill” Sackboy Costume And exclusive to LBP2’s Collector Edition PlayStation’s “Jak” Sackboy Costume PlayStation’s “Daxter” Sackboy Costume 5 exclusive LBP2 PSN Avatars The Final Fantasy XIV Collector Edition after the jump. Now Final Fantasy XIV has been announced to be released September 30, 2010 for the PC version which will be priced at $74.99 and March 11, 2011 for the PS3 version with pricing to be announced. Final Fantasy XIV Collector’s Edition will include: A copy of Final Fantasy XIV FFXIV game manual Early Access to the game. The game will be open for play 8 days sooner than the Standard PC Edition. Which would actually put the release date at Sept. 22.(Timing of access subject to initial server capacity.) Preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm A special behind-the-scenes documentary DVD A Final Fantasy XIV branded security token for use with your regular password A Travel Journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art A voucher to receive a fully personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number Amano Cover- A special PC Collector’s Edition Illustration by Yoshitaka Amano Free gameplay for 30 days That’s not bad for a Collector’s Edition. Now is the inflated price going to be worth it in the end for both of these games? Only time will tell for sure. I’m just happy that American gamers are receiving the extra effort that goes into these improved editions and the game companies no doubt enjoy taking more of gamer’s money in the process.
