Just how bad is the PS3 shortage? According to GameStop’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Raines ,PlayStation 3s have been out of stock a whopping 80% of the time during the company’s February-April quarter. Even though PS3 sales are up 32% year-over-year the supply shortages Sony is facing with the system continue to hinder hardware sales. On the bright side of things GameStop reported a 5.1% sales increase during its first fiscal quarter with new software sales increasing to 13.3% thanks to big game releases of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII and others. GameStop: PS3 Out Of Stock 80 Percent Of The Time
Despite several trailers of Final Fantasy Versus XIII stating the game would release exclusively for the PS3, Square Enix’s CEO Yoichi Wada wants to clear the air: Final Fantasy Versus XIII may not remain a PS3 exclusive. Speaking after an investors meeting in Tokyo the question was raised if Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be better served as a multiplatform title. Wada replied “We’ll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement.”I’m guessing that there’s no better time to make a “formal announcement” then at E3. The last news we heard about the development status of FFvXIII was when Nomura announced that they had airships flying over the world map in the game. It’ll be interesting to see how a 360 port may affect the current development and release schedule for the PS3 version. Source

Final Fantasy Versus XIII No Longer PS3 Only

PSP sales have really dropped in the US, but are extremely strong, and even outselling the DS in Japan. In the US, and only in the US, 360 consoles continue to outsell PS3, despite PS3 having a better price/value ratio and a higher quality game library that sells higher volumes to a smaller user base. Interpretation : In the US, the Xbox 360 is selling on brand name, and not hardware quality, software library, or price/value ratio. By most metrics, PS3 has cumulatively surpassed the 360 in Japan and regions other than Japan and US. Only in the US does the 360 maintain a cumulative sales lead. (We don’t yet have complete Japan software sales for March. The data is available, but would require too much effort to compile. garaph.info is about a month out of date)

Sales for March 2010
It seems some lucky person(s) who was accepted into the beta test for Square Enix’s upcoming mmorpg FFXIV has leeked alot of information regarding the game. Since these leeks clearly violate Square Enix’s NDA, it’s best that I make it clear that the information reported in this post was found and has been distributed freely across the world wide web. To my knowledge, neither I or anyone here at PS3Blog.net have been accepted into FFXIV’s Beta/Alpha testing which means we are not bound by the terms of Final Fantasy XIV’s non-disclosure agreement. That should keep the lawyers at bay. This information has been leaked to the Internet from this week’s issue of Famitsu regarding the alpha testing of FFXIV. Area changes between cities and the field are seemless BGM flows naturally Private instances will not be interrupted by things happening around you (chat, crowdedness) The L3 button is the target lock Everyone can use teleport from the beginning Warp (like FFXI) sends you back to your home point, which is defaulted to the last Aetherite you used. There are only male Highlanders. You can only play as female Miqo’te, but males exist. There is a difference in starting stats between tribes, but this can be overcome with character growth (?) Gender has no effect on play Roegadyn females exist (does not say they are playable) The difference between tribes isn’t that big The opening will be real time, not pre-rendered. Flow of battle: Select target with directional keys Draw weapon with R1 Select commends with directional keys Effect gauge charges Alpha was made with casual gamers in mind, too, but it may still be difficult Players will be able to reallocate stats in the final version They want to make teleport and warp available for all classes, and make it low-cost. After alpha comes beta 1, then beta 2. PS3 should be playable from beta 2. Alpha and beta 1 will be mostly the same thing. Parties cannot be formed unless the other members are close to you when inviting them. There are five different ranks of guildleve difficulty. After being defeated in battle, there is a five minute “weakened” state (It may be possible to be revived without a raise spell?) There are things like attack magic which can be used without MP Casting while moving is possible There are MP restoring abilities HP regenerates pretty quickly in passive mode I’ve posted more leeked news about the official Alpha Test Manual and some battle music on the official thread on the forums.
