The Devil May Cry HD Collection is a bargain at $39.99, but the title may be misleading to many. The correct title should be, “Devil May Cry kind of HD Collection” The collection includes the original in all its glory, as well as part 2 and 3 special edition as well as a vault of songs and art work. Not bad, right? Well the problem is Capcom was either extremely lazy or some technical issue prevented them from giving the HD treatment to the cut scenes and menus. Yes, even the menus are 4:3 SD in all their blurry glory for you to enjoy. How this happened is beyond me. The overall enjoyment is greatly reduced when fighting in HD, collecting your first orb, and are suddenly treated by a small screen explaining what the orb is used for. Extremely disappointing. The game looks dated, but the HD treatment has the characters and enemies looking super polished. You’re getting 2 of the best games in the series, and if you price it at $19.99 for those 2 titles, it’s a bargain for sure, even with the 4:3 FMV’s and menus aside. Devil May Cry 1 will always be held with great regards for balancing out action and a leveling system with a challenging difficulty. Devil May Cry 2, on the other hand, has the difficulty of a sesame street game and should be avoided at all costs. The HD overhaul hasn’t changed anything for part 2. It is still boring and brainless with absolutely zero enjoyment. 3 is the best in regards to difficulty and over the top combo madness. It has aged well and still remains one of my favorite games for the ps2 era. The sound is just like you remember, with over the top rock techno and the ever so familiar sound of going into menus and collecting items. The camera is debatable; some despise it with the ability to control it being zero until the third installment, and even then, you can only slightly move it in certain areas. If you lived under a rock and have never played the game, this will be your biggest gripe most likely. Like I said, I don’t mind it and always thought it was rather innovative for its time. This is something that could have been addressed, but seeing as the menus and story scenes are so ugly with no effort whatsoever put into them for this collection, I am once again not surprised. 3 Platinum trophies with part 2 being the easiest to obtain, trophy hunters will need a good chunk of time for a small price of admission. With my complaints aside, this is a collection that belongs in your PS3 library for nostalgic sake. Most definitely a buy. Review Pros Cons Best Action/RPG around Extremely satisfying combat Gaming History on one Disc $39.99 Camera unforgivable 4:3 Menus and cut scenes Rating 85%

Last week on twitter, 4GamersElite had a little giveaway for a few of their fantastic products, specifically travel cases for the newly launched Playstation Vita. Well I couldn’t resist entering and as you see from the picture above, I won. I decided that I was going to treat this as a review product shortly after winning mostly because I was mesmerized by the case I chose after winning. The first thing you notice about this particular case is that it is large…very large. Especially compared to my old Vita case. This is actually what made me choose this case in particular. I’m a gadget on the go kind of guy and we all know battery life just isn’t what we want it to be these days so we have to carry several charging cables with us. The invention of proprietary wires (this man should probably be beaten with pillow cases of soap) forces us to carry multiple wires. I have a large backpack with many pockets but in between my iPad, Vita, PSP, mobile phone, spare USB cable, headphones and bluetooth charger, its just impossible to not get these tangled up. This particular case allows me to neatly store the cords in the case with the Vita and games thus giving me one less headache to deal with later. The actual pocket for the vita is lined and padded itself along with the hole case. It feels sturdy yet soft, and seems to have a spot for everything. The external fabric feels like a rubber coated neoprene so it feels very water resistant. I gotta say that this is probably the best case I’ve ever owned for a portable gaming machine personally. Here is the bad news. It’s not currently available in North America. Right now this bad boy is only available to our European friends and soon Asia. They do have plans to penetrate the American market eventually from what I gather as well. /fingers crossed/ Absolutely a great purchase for anyone and for me, winning it makes it all that much sweeter. Be sure to check out all of their fantastic product here *PRODUCTS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TO NORTH AMERICA*

If you’ve got a PS3, or even a PlayStation Vita then no doubt you’ve been kitting it out with many a game and accessory to make sure your console looks the part. Accessories are an important part of a console’s lifecycle – they help you to ensure it lasts longer due to the protection kits that are available to buy, and to get the best experience from them due to the headsets, controllers etc you can buy for the games that you play. If you’re into your accessories, then you have a perfect opportunity to have your say on how to improve on a current product or even how products end up before they go into mass production and ahead of them being available to the general public to buy. How? We’ll get to that in a second. We recently gave away a COMM-PLAY Performance Gaming Kit , which one of our readers – FrogmanTM was lucky enough to win . This prize was provided to us by a UK based PlayStation Approved accessory brand 4Gamers. 4Gamers are a HUGE accessory brand within the UK, who have recently infiltrated the Far Eastern market over recent months and are now looking weave their way into the US market – we’re guessing it won’t be long before you see a 4Gamers product on store shelves such as Best Buy, Walmart etc. 4Gamers are currently in the process of setting up a Review Panel, where current products and pre-launched accessories for the PS3 and the PlayStation Vita will be sent out to you for you to test and provide feedback on. Once these products have been sent out to you, you are not always required to send them back – 4Gamers are a very generous bunch and you’re welcome to keep them! As well as reviewing 4Gamers accessories if you have any suggestions on new product ideas or improvements you’d like to see made to any current 4Gamers products – then all you have to do is put it down in your feedback. Simples! In order to be in for a chance to secure your place on the 4Gamers Review Panel, all you have to do is review any of your own 4Gamers products and email it to info@4Gamers.net , with subject headed ‘Review Panel’. The closing date for review entries is 31st March 2012, after which 4Gamers will be in touch with successful candidates securing a place on their Review Panel. Still reading this? What are you waiting for – get reviewing!! Important Note: As 4Gamers products aren’t currently available in the US, places on the 4Gamers Review Panel is currently open to UK residents only.
Following on from the launch of the PlayStation® Vita on 22nd February, PlayStation is excited to release two short films by TV award winning magician Dynamo. Inspired by the ability to play anytime and anywhere, the films give the viewer a glimpse into Dynamo’s magical world where anything is truly possible. Not one to shy away from a challenge, the first film sees Dynamo putting the PlayStation Vita’s anytime, anywhere functionality to the test, scaling the heights of one of London’s most iconic locations -Nelson’s column – for a spot of downtime gaming, much to the surprise of his friend! The second short film captures Dynamo’s busy life, always on the move and in demand. Playing at home on his PlayStation 3 console, Dynamo keeps being interrupted by his management. Instead of stopping playing, with a touch of Dynamo magic he transforms his PlayStation console into a PlayStation Vita, so he can continue playing on the move. “I’m a gamer myself and always on the move, so it was great to get a chance to test out the PlayStation Vita and see what I could do with it!” says Dynamo. The two films by Dynamo follow the release of ‘Our World in Play’ which captured Rizzle Kicks duo Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule, each making their separate ways to one of their gigs, putting the PlayStation Vita through its paces along the way. The hotly-anticipated PlayStation Vita has gaming at its heart; offering users the best possible portable gaming experience, including WiFi and 3G capabilities, PlayStation 3 quality graphics, touch sensitive front screen and back panel, dual analogue sticks and new ways of social interaction with ‘Near’ and ‘Live Area’ functions. “PlayStation Vita is an incredible device that offers the best possible portable gaming experiences. Its revolutionary mix of features combined with social connectivity, delivers a platform for gamers to play games in a whole new way and to connect with their friends and the world around them” says Alan Duncan, Marketing Director, Sony PlayStation.
Uncharted is a game that needs no introduction. Nathan Drake and friends have molded their selves deeply in the hearts of many gamer’s in the past with Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 on the PS3 and Golden Abyss is no different. Sony Bend made Golden Abyss in such a fashion that it shows off most of the new control schemes for the Vita. Some are cumbersome while others work very well. One of the first things I noticed was the stick sensitivity for aiming. I had a hard time getting heads shots or any shots at all for that matter but after messing with it for a while, I noticed that tilting the Vita helped hone in on shot accuracy. Basically you move the aiming reticle as close to an enemy as possible then just slightly tilt/yaw the Vita to maximize accuracy. My only problem with it is the tilt motion is inverted with no option to reverse it that I can find. Like Uncharted 1, there are a few QTE’s involved in the game play but unlike the first Uncharted, these are done with the touch screen. Several fights will require you to swipe the screen in a certain direction. Cutting bamboo may force you to basically draw a letter Z on the screen. All of this is done pretty well with the exception of having to clean off objects or treasures that you find along the way. In one scene you find a helmet that is caked with mud and grime. You need to clean it off by rubbing the screen with your finger. This is all fine and dandy, however you need to spin the object to clean off the other sides by using the back touch pad. The problem is holding the Vita without touching the back touch pad to clean off mud, then spin the object to clean off a little more without it spinning out of control on you because your finger is resting on the back touch pad. Speaking of treasures, if you are one of the OCD treasure/trophy finders in games, then Uncharted: Golden Abyss will tickle your fancy. There are tons of treasures everywhere with a unique journal method of documenting them. All treasures are put into categories. When you complete a category, you get an additional trophy but these treasures could be spread over several chapters and once completed will queue a monologue to tell you about the final result of all the clues that you found. Many of these treasures are will hidden, even more so than the PS3 versions in my opinion. However not all are shiny golden treasures. Some hidden treasures fall under the “mystery” category such as taking a picture of certain objects with Drakes handy little camera (this thing must be rugged because Drake takes a beating yet his camera always works…). Other mysteries are charcoal rubbings which makes use of the touch screen as well. The story is good but did not suck me in like the other Uncharted’s did. It just seemed a little dull overall. Drake has a friend with a questionable moral compass who leads Drake through several inconvenient situations where he meets a girl with good intentions and gets very close which results in him getting into even more trouble than if he had just stayed with the horrible friend to begin with. All in all Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a GREAT game and an excellent way to introduce a new console. The game does feel like the console versions through and through but with portable gaming style additions which do not detract from the immersion at all. *(You will notice below that I put “PS3 experience on a mobile device” as a pro and as a con. Some people really like that idea, others do not. As such, it can’t really be called a pro or a con but it is important enough to potentially sway someone’s opinion of the game so I felt the need to add it in) Review Pros Cons Same Uncharted cinematic feel Excellent touch screen and motion controls Revamped treasure system is amazing PS3 experience on a mobile device Forced to use touch screen and motion Using back touch pad and touch screen at the same time can be cumbersome Story could have been more refined PS3 experience on a mobile device Rating 80%

Today I got a look at two things I have yet to get my greasy gamer paws on: the Playstation Vita and the Vita game “Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!”. While the Vita I immediately reached for was only a dev unit, it was rather weighty and much larger than its predecessors. That’s not the focus of this article though, Mutant Blobs is what I’m going to talk about. And talk about it we shall; in great detail. Let’s begin…shall we? A blustery, windy, chilly day in the city is no surprise. Conducting an interview with a calm, collected, zen-like master like Ryan MacLean … is. Plus he’s got a beard (I’m still rocking my SF Giants World Series beard) so i instantly feel at ease with the CEO of DrinkBox studios. MacLean greeted me warmly and I found myself a seat on the couch via the opposite corner of MacLean. Like a hyperactive 6 year old, I immediately grab the Vita. Not stopping and thinking, “Hey, I’m supposed to conduct an interview here..”. MacLean takes the reins and talks about DrinkBox Studios (a small Toronto based company) and tells me “a total of 8 people” worked on the game and followed it through to it’s completion. The main protagonist of this Vita downloadable game is a friendly looking green blob that can mold, attach, squish, roll, eat, enlarge and steamroll its way into your heart. Sackboy lovers prepare to make room in your heart for what I think is a shoe-in for the “new mascot” nomination for the Vita. The overall gameplay if I had to compare it to another Playstation title would be “Little Big Planet” meets “Uncharted”. Combined with multi-cultural references in the back and foreground of this highly addictive side-scrolling title, you’ll be sliming your way through levels and avoiding laser beam pitfalls. On top of all that, you have collectibles to go after. A set number of collectibles reside in each level and let me share a secret with you: they’re a little tricky to get. It takes patience and a slick understanding of each level to snag’em. The following is a true fact: I have never played the Vita…until now. Now with this in mind, Mutant Blobs is my first crack at any Vita game. After about 15 minutes in and on much higher levels that MacLean was kind enough to show/walk me though, I started learning the ropes. Although there came a puzzle part which I had no idea what to do, so I handed the Vita to MacLean and said “You do it!”. Not frustratingly mind you, but I didn’t want to make the man suffer and watch struggle with this like two pigs fighting over a milk dud. Gameplay in itself is fascinating and there’s so much to engage the gamer. There’s laser beams and giant pitfalls and even bigger cog wheels you can attach to and repel off of. Places in-game to perform smash moves to break through even bigger destructible barriers. What can you say to a game like this – other than: “Let’s shake it and break it!” I then dove in with Ryan MacLean, giving me pointers and the occasional bailout move. What’s even more cool about the game is it utilizes everything the Vita has to offer, including a nice little trophy list. Maybe not a jaw dropping fact in itself, but when you go through Mutant Blobs gameplay and all the gaming control, touch control, trigger controls, tilt control, graphics, smooth animation, jazzy music, smile-inducing cutscenes… that’s kind of a tall order. What’s even more fascinating is the price point being offered for Mutant Blobs: it’s a paltry $7.99 USD. Available on the Playstation Store starting February 21. I then concluded my guided tour of three levels hand-picked by MacLean himself, I then decided to ask some questions that came to mind. First up was my inquiry about the “Pass-N-Play” feature on most handheld gaming rigs? Not in this case would be the answer. Co-Op is also not going to be in this game reveled MacLean. Don’t fret true believer, MacLean was quick to deter any previous bad news with “anything is possible” and DLC for this Vita downloadable was hinted at, but certainly not confirmed. MacLean & the DrinkBox crew were quick to add bits of information like bonus levels that are included and unlock as you progress through the game, creating an even bigger and more expansive experience for the Vita gamer. I was then shown and allowed to play a bonus level. Now this is right up my alley! Using only tilt controls for this particular bonus level, I became a rolling ball of destruction. Swallowing and engulfing anything onscreen, people feared me, cars trembled at the sight of me and construction zone barriers became tasty little morsels. A chaotic and destructive pinball-like level, the blob gets bigger with every item/person/car you eat and the more you eat – the BIGGER you get – until you’re pretty much unstoppable. The bonus level has a quirky bezel design, that being of a GameBoy bezel (aptly renamed GameBro) and when I asked if PlayStation had said something to say to DrinkBox about the obvious nod to the Nintendo handheld? The official response was: “they didn’t seem to have a problem with it”, I joked back with “I’m sure they probably were a little sour grapes with it”. We all had a nice little chuckle together and I finished the bonus level with a respectable (noobish) score and was left seriously wanting more of this amazing downloadable title. The PlayStation Vita is still in its infancy stage with developers still working on games and figuring out way to make a game that truly works on the Vita. DrinkBox has done just that: they’ve made a game that works . It finds an odd and sometimes very odd balance to a gaming handheld that few Vita titles have been able to master. As far as being a Vita title, this is definitely a must own for any Vita owner. And if you plan on picking up a Vita make sure to pick this title and slime your way to the PSN store and grab this title for an amazingly affordable price point of $7.99 USD starting on February 21. I give these Vita title a solid 4 out of 5 blobs. (90/100 Title Score) This review is based on the PS Vita version of Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack! developed by DrinkBox Studios. Now. With that being said and mainly because yours truly is so awesome. Mr. MacLean was kind enough to extend a free version of the game included on this game voucher (see picture) he gave me at the end of the interview. Here’s what you got to do: What name would you give the blob in Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack? Leave a comment down below with your answer. And be sure to show DrinkBox some love via the official Mutant Blobs Attack blog at www.mutantblobsattack.com , @MutantBlob on Twitter, and DrinkBox Studios on Facebook. Having a Vita or planning to get a Vita will also help with this contest, as the game is only for the Vita. Contest will end on February 20, so it gives everyone enough time to enter. Good Luck!
