New Monster Hunter 3 HD Screens Released

Sony Japan has released some new screens of the upcoming Monster Hunter 3 HD for the PS3. It has also been confirmed that the game will be available digitally on Japanese PSN, which is a welcome addition for a game that sold over 4 million in Japan. The game can be imported for $59 with shipping from HERE . All PS3 games are region free and can be played on any console. The Blu-ray includes all Monster Hunter videos from previous titles done in HD and believe me when I say that is a lot of videos. Your save game is transferable from PSP to PS3 as well. The multi-player will use adhoc so I wanted to point out that adhoc uses a wired internet connection only and this may still be the case, again I am not sure. If you played the previous titles and are curious as to whats new in 3 here is a quick look at a video I made. Here is the official Trailer Source: Capcom Japan

NHL 12 Cover Athlete: Steven Stamkos

The NHL 12 cover The 2011 iteration of the annual National Hockey League awards show, held in inexplicably a desert Las Vegas, Nevada, was filled with embarrassments. “Comedian” Jay Mohr made a bunch of unfunny comments, two ladies mispronounced Martin St. Louis’ name (it’s “ Mar-TAN Saint lou-EE “, not “ Mar-TIN Saint lou-IS “. It’s a French name.), and that horrible “Like a G6″ band, the Far East Movement, played “music”. Oh, and some hockey players got trophies. Besides that, Electronic Arts revealed the coverboy of their yearly NHL simulation: Steven Stamkos, the young cetreman of the Tampa Bay Lightning (personally, I was more partial to my own Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins, but at least I get this nice fake cover to comfort me ). Anyway, Stamkos was selected first overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Lightning, and since then the Lightning have improved drastically, coming within a hair of knocking out my Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals (thank god they didn’t). In the 2010-2011 season, Stamkos played in all 82 games, scoring 45 goals and netting 46 assists for 91 points. He had an even better 2009-2010 season, scoring 51 goals and 44 assists for 95 points. Since 2K’s NHL series seems to be dying a slow and horrible death on the Wii, EA’s NHL series will be the only PS3 hockey sim for the second straight year. As Madden has shown us all, without competition between two developers developing yearly sports titles, stagnation in the yearly game occurs. Here’s hoping that 2K can come back and compete with EA. Mystery Gravy A lot of things about the Vita are still largely unknown. To start with, Konami’s “Transfarring” phrase that was coined prior to E3 and mentioned numerous times at Konami’s pre-recorded E3 video. Konami has stated that all future Kojima Productions games will be Transfarring enabled. Does that mean that the games will be playable on both the PS3 and the Vita or some other type of connectivity? If they are playable on both, will we need to purchase both copies individually or will they come bulked together? Above and beyond simply playing the game, many online modes are said to be cross platform between the PS3 and the Vita. Wipeout 2048 is one example of this happening. The way it sounds, only certain maps will be playable between the two units. Capcom’s Streetfighter X Tekken also states that there will be some connectivity between the Vita and the PS3 which I assume means online competition. While we are discussing online, how about Dust 514? A battle taking place in the universe of the MMO Eve, yet Dust is an MMO in its own right or so the dev says. Somehow this game will have a Vita connection that will be playable and works with the PC/PS3 version of this MMO. The ingredients making up the Vita and its online seems to be largely unknown and a company secret. Post E3 Taste Review I had a chance to test out several little morsels of Vita that left me wanting more. Each had their own palatable sapidity. BlazBlue-Continuum Shift II Plus I had some alone time with this game in the SCEE private showing room on the top floor on the very last day. I have to admit that I am not very aware of the BlazBlue series and I have not played it before. The game moved and played flawlessly yet the characters movements felt clunky. I attribute that to the type of game it is and my ignorance of said game rather then a subsequent Vita issue. The game looked glorious however. BlazBlue-Continuum Shift II Plus tastes like a chocolate covered biscuit/cookie a la Pocky. Surely to appease the Japanese fans. Hot Shots Golf Next Another game I fiddled with and had no idea what I was doing. While looking beautiful, I could not figure out how to hit the ball. Trying to use the touch screen, I kept lifting my golfer off of the fairway and into the air scaring the bejesus out of her. I’m sure had I started the game from scratch, there would have been a tutorial explaining everything to me. For Hot Shots Golf fans, I think you will be pleased. Reminds me of a subway sandwhich. Then again, maybe I watched too much Happy Gilmore. Little Devients A collection of mini-games using all of the Vita’s new control schemes yet it feels full. I played a few different levels of this game that used the camera, touch screen, back touch pad and sixaxis. Many of them at the same time to the point I was even worried about dropping it at one point. Despite the fear I would drop “my precious” into the fiery pits of Mordor, I had a great time wiping green slime from the Vita screen. This will be a fan favorite for fans of Eye Pets and most iPod games. Little Deviants gives a sweet but salty flavor with a hint of green slime. Little Big Planet The classic and ever popular LBP but this time on the Vita. I will say one thing about this game. Best version ever! The multiple touch controls on both the front and back as well as many other types of controls that come natively with the Vita allow for a much deeper experience. From moving objects with your finger, spinning wheels or making your sackboy (or girl) follow your finger underwater inside of a bubble, this version rocks. This is a hot fudge sundae covered in caramel and whipped cream with brownies! Sound Shapes Music at your fingertips in the form of an artistic platform game. Making music by solving the puzzles of many puzzles to progress through a basic but beautiful platforming world. The game was fun but I often got annoyed at trying to jump to other platforms without dying. It surely will be a favorite among many Vita owners however. I get a ring pop flavor from this one. Uncharted: Golden Abyss Nathan Drake? On a handheld? Thats just as good as the HD versions? No need for a description of this game. It tastes like Winning! Virtua Tennis 4 Not a tennis fan, but I did enjoy my time with this game. I was capable of putting top spin or bottom spin on the tennis ball with the front touch screen. It can be a little easy at times, but that could just be the demo itself that I played. Tastes like Avian water.

Star Ocean Developers Show Off Pretty New Tech Demo

Tri-Ace is best know for their anime styled character models in role-playing games like Star Ocean and the recent Resonance of Fate. This week the studio shared a new tech demo that’s light years ahead of their previous works. The demo is rendered in real time on the PS3 and 360 and runs at 30 frames per second in 720p, using real-time lighting and shadows with features that include “physically-based shading models, physically-based lighting and image-based global illumination.” Called “tri-Ace Technical Demo Trailer 2011″, the demo is said to be a ‘Physically Based Rendering version 0.1′ that uses Tri-Aces game engine. While it does look impressive when compared to what Tri-Ace has done in the past, this demo isn’t related to any title the Japanese developers are currently working on. Official Review: Yakuza 4

I have to admit I’m a Yakuza franchise virgin. Hang on, let me rephrase that – I was a Yakuza franchise virgin. I was aware of the Yakuza franchise, but I never really gave any thought to playing it. I was too involved with my FIFAs, GTAs, Battlefields, and highly overrated CoDs. However, I was presented with the opportunity to review the game and decided eh – why not. Admittedly, I now feel that I have missed out on 3 epic segments of this franchise after playing such a gripping game. I got started by slipping the disc into my PS3, not knowing what I was going to experience. I decided not to search up Yakuza 4 on the net, as I wanted my experience to be as original as it could be. Before you actually start playing the game, you have to go through a mandatory install, which takes around 10 – 15 minutes – which is pretty common these days. Though like most games, this install had a different feel about it. It took the opportunity to introduce you to the characters of the game, what role they play, and a little about their background. This for someone like me it was just the perfect introduction. The virtual environment is based on Tokyo, Japan, with the virtual world looking as bright and beautiful as the real Tokyo itself. The main characters of the game (most of you who have played any of the Yakuza outings may remember some of the following characters) are Kazuma Kiryu, Masayoshi Tanimura, Shun Akiyama, and Taiga Saejima. All of these characters are connected to the plot of the game. The game itself is split up into 4 parts, with each character having approximately 4 chapters each. Once the game starts, you take on the role of a loan shark, Shun Akiyama, a one time hot shot who turned into a homeless body that lived on the streets of Kamurocho, who lost his job and his life’s work by being framed for something he didn’t do. However, one very lucky day, his luck changed and vowed to help those who needed money when no one else was prepared to lend them any. However, there was one condition – they had to pass a test before any cash traded hands. Akiyama isn’t a member of the Yakuza. He’s just fortunate enough to know what’s going on in city, and tends to poke his nose in and out of the business of the Yakuza family – eventually landing him right in the middle of it all. So let’s cut past a few of the cutscenes and some basic challenges. Enter a rather beautiful (yes I know it’s only a game) lass called Lily. She is the glue that connects all of the four characters together. She turns up one day to borrow money from Akiyama, and this isn’t just a regular sum. This is when things start to get a little interesting. Let’s leave the storyline just there and rather than give the game away completely by telling you all about the trouble that follows Akiyama and the other characters I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, let’s take a look at the other areas of the game. Whilst following the storyline, you’re constantly haggled by street yobs who just either want to mug you or want to give you a beating for fun. This is where you get the chance to build upon your fighting experience and earn yourself some Soul points. You can redeem these so called Soul points for new fighting moves, which help you to defeat even the toughest of opponents. You can pick up weapons and items off the street and use them to aid the beating of these so called tough guys. You can actually pick up a bike and smash it around the head of those looking to give you a kicking, never mind Samurai swords and other weird items. The fighting is just awesome. This is where the button bashing begins. Combinations upon combinations of buttons allow you to perform many different moves and some – just make your jaw drop. If you’ve played Tekken, you know what I’m on about. Even though you’re beating up thugs and getting involved in sticky situations, at times you do end up getting dragged down to the local dibble (police station) for questioning, and the officer who’s constantly on your back does well to promote a bad cop reputation. Now for the location. The game itself is set in Tokyo; the streets are always busy with tourists, residents etc, and because of this, you can chat to most of the non-important characters of the game. This is an excellent addition, as the developers have added a nice slice of humour to the game, as you find yourself on many an occasion involved in conversations which will make you chuckle, and if you’re the sensitive type – bring a tear to your eye. I’ve personally never been to Tokyo, and whilst you’re roaming around the streets, you certainly get a feel of what the place may really look like. Does the game have a true sandbox environment? Most sandbox games tend to let you roam around the virtual world and wreak havoc, and as I mentioned earlier, this is the first Yakuza title I have played – the sandbox world is more or less restricted to the storyline. That’s what I loved about the game. With huge titles such as Grand Theft Auto, the sandbox world proved to be a killer feature, but for me, I found myself constantly wandering around, barely completing any challenges and then an hour or two later getting bored. The majority of the time I skipped the cutscenes as I was barely interested in them due to being zombified by the gameplay. With Yakuza 4 – I was constantly gripped by the storyline, I didn’t dare to skip any cutscenes – did I mention I was gripped by the storyline? Does the audio make a difference to the game? Even though the speech in the whole game is in Japanese, the subtitles provide you with a detailed translation to what is being said. I love foreign movies, especially when they have subtitles – hence me and Yakuza 4 were a perfect fit. I felt the actors who provided the voiceovers did an excellent job of providing a good feel of the cutscenes. How do you rate the gameplay? With the game packing in 30+ hours worth of gameplay, in my mind, it is worth every penny. The game itself is quite addictive – with it leaving you thinking what is going to happen next? I couldn’t help myself picking up the controller and just having 30 minutes here and there when I really should’ve been doing the chores. Shh…don’t tell the wife! Great Graphics? The graphics for the gameplay are great. The colours (Sorry for the spelling – I’m British) are superb, and as mentioned before, the textures are highly detailed. They certainly bring out the best of the environment, whether it be day or night. The gameplay animations of the characters are very well executed – smooth movements etc. However, there is a downside, as the cutscenes feel and look quite rough. Especially on a 37″ HD screen! The outlines of the characters during the animations look very jagged and take quite a bit away from the game, as the game is at least made up of 70% cutscenes. Final Verdict If you’re a fan of a sandbox game with no restrictions, and/or you don’t like to be restricted to a story line and just cannot be bothered with cutscenes to let the story flow – then this game isn’t for you. However, if you’re into games with Story Lines, like for example Uncharted etc; the you’re gonna love this game. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not comparing this game to Uncharted – but the gameplay is on a similar level. This is one game I am glad not to be missing! Review Pros Cons Gripping Storyline Plenty of button bashing during the fight scenes Total gameplay exceeds 30+ hours (including cutscenes) You get to play 4 characters throughout the game – giving you variety Restricted sandbox environment (if you prefer it like me) Cutscene graphics look rough around the edges Restricted sandbox environment (if you prefer it to be more open) Lack of trophies Rating 92% Disclaimer: This review is based on the Adventure Mode. The game hasn’t yet been fully completed as it is HUGE! With the gameplay, challenges and cutscenes, you are looking at around 30+ hours in total before completion. I have currently only completed 50% of the Adventure Mode.

Star Drone on PSN Today

Here is a look at Star Drone, which hits today on PSN. Plus members: you may recall your getting this at a discounted $4.99 compared to the retail price of $7.99. PlayStation Move support included! 50+ levels sounds like it will be worth the money. 3D is also supported. Reminds me of those Japanese pinball games where you drop the ball in at the top of the machine and simply watch it bounce down. The ball is controlled by simple gestures with either the DualShock 3 or Move controller. Source: PSBlog

Sorry Motorstorm Fans

I bring you news straight from Sony Similar to news already issued from our Japanese and European territories, SCEA can confirm that we are officially delaying release of MotorStorm Apocalypse from its scheduled April 12th date. We will provide more information regarding release timing at a later date. This is not a bad thing in my eyes. They obviously got feedback from the demo that they felt could be worked on prior to a release. Feelings? Source: Official PSBlog

Warriors: Legends of Troy by KOEI $59.99 I want this so bad! Product Details: In Warriors: Legends of Troy, two great armies clash not over home and country, but for the love of a single woman. The fates of these civilizations now stand upon the razor’s edge. 3000 years ago, a poet sang of heroes strong enough to stand alone against an army. For love, they sailed the world. For family, they made the greatest sacrifices. For honor, they stood and faced the will of gods, And fought a war which shook the earth. In the age when Zeus Almighty ruled over immortals and men, what begins as a truce between two cities quickly erupts into a massive war that will shake the very foundations of Olympus. * The Greatest Heroes: Fight for the Trojans and the Greeks as you experience the war from the perspectives of the greatest heroes . * Epic Battlefields: Clash with legions of soldiers on glorious battlegrounds that reach for miles throughout the ancient world. * Strategic Carnage: Do anything to survive. Grab a sword from a fallen enemy and hurl it at a soldier bearing down on you. Smash an opponent with your shield, and then run your spear through him. Or just throttle them with your bare hands. * Legendary Battles: Battle larger-than-life heroes and even confront mythical creatures sent by the gods themselves. * Brutal History: Among the inspirations for the game are The Iliad, Homer’s epic poem from the 9th century BC, and in-depth research of the ancient battlefields of the Trojan War. * Ancient Heroes: Play as infamous heroes such as Achillies and Odysseus from Greece, as well as Hektor and Paris from Troy. Fit in Six by UbiSoft $39.99 Face palm! No description available. Call it what it is, another wii port of an exercising game.. So what will you be picking up this week? Troy is looking to be Dynasty warriors all over again and that is not a bad thing. Top spin demo was great but at $59.99 I feel it was priced to high.
