Bleach Finally Comes to the PS3, Demo Next Friday

Bleach has been coming out pretty regularly on the PSP for a while now. But now it will get the processing power the PS3 behind it. You’ll get to find out if it was worth the wait on Christmas Eve. Seems like you’ll be able to play as Byakuya Kuchiki or Yami. I assume this would be on the Japanese PSN Store only, but it’s easy enough to make an alternate PSN account. If you try it out, be sure to let us know what you think. Via andriasang.com

Ni-Oh (Oni) Still in Development? Action Done by Team Ninja?

According to the latest Famitsu, Ni-Oh has been changed from an action game to an action-RPG and it seems the action is being developed by none other then Team Ninja. This game was announced in 2004 under the name “Oni” from Koei before the PS3 even released. The game was supposed to have used a lost script written by Akira Kurosawa (famous Japanese director/writer). It features a samurai with blonde hair looking to find his own identity in war-torn Japan during the 16th century. The game was going to be based on a movie as well. The movie has been since canceled, however Koei insisted the game is still in development.

Selling Unfinished Games: Is This The Future of the Industry?

It’s no question that at $60 a copy video games can be a bit expensive for most. It appears that some in the gaming industry is aware of  this fact and want to alleviate that problem the only way they know how- by selling you half a game at half the price. Namco Bandai’s CEO Shukuo Ishikawa recently stated that:  “Selling a game only once for $70-$80 [typical Japanese prices] is no good at all. If you sell it for $25, or even give it away free, then you can sell episodes and items online. They’ll soon be dropping $10 or $20 on these, and you can also do monthly charges.” This strategy is also being considered by Codemasters whose CEO Rod Cousens claims that selling unfinished games will help defeat piracy.  “The video games industry has to learn to operate in a different way. My answer is for us as publishers is to actually sell unfinished games – and to offer the consumer multiple micro-payments to buy elements of the full experience. That would create an offering that is affordable at retail – but over a period of time may also generate more revenue for the publishers to reinvest in our games. If these games are pirated, those who get their hands on them won’t be able to complete the experience.” Selling half a game and then offering the rest as DLC has one downside. Not everyone in the world has access to high speed Internet. I think such a move could hurt video game sales instead of help because of that fact. Source

The Weekly Recap (June 20th-26th)

This Week So, no surprise here, there was a little bit of a drop off in activity since E3 ended almost 2 weeks ago ( 2 QuickNews and 19 articles), but there was actually still a bit of activity on the community side of things, with contests and, finally, game night announcements (which can be found in the ‘ Community News ‘ and ‘ Play With Us ‘ tabs respectively). So, what are the highlights? Ace showed off some multiplayer for Twisted Metal , which has been in development for 18 months already. Trev got to check out FIFA 11 at EA . And Sony has released more information for PlayStation Plus , which launches tomorrow . As for other articles, Demerson has another Red Dead Redemption Chronicle to read (and details of a contest that ends in a couple days, which you can read more about in the Community News tab). Darrin has his take on Sony and Microsoft with 3D , and with that, be sure to watch Jimmy Fallon’s reaction to Killzone 3 in 3D. Now, what about the ‘ should have been there ‘ deals? You could have gotten Dead Space for $10 and $20 off at the EA store . Community News Alright, busy community week, that’s for sure. To start, there were a few contests going on, and winners to one of them were announced. The E3 week giveaway ended early last week, and the winners were: JimmyMagnum Demerson Eddie Congratulations to the other two! Currently, there is another contest being held, by one of the other members here. It’s a RDR Chronicle writing contest ! This one comes courtesy of Demerson . If you are one of the two winners, you’ll receive a $20 PSN Gift Card . Going back to E3, the ‘ Best of E3 ‘ voting has completed, and you can read the results here . Though it’s not surprising to see Sony make it out on top (given the site and everything), there were still some surprises to be had. Sinlock – June 23rd Play With Us Right now, there aren’t any planned Game Nights, but given that we’re starting to do them again, this would be a good section to keep an eye on them. We did have two this past week, and assuming you didn’t have connection problems like Oly and I, you probably had some fun. So which Game Nights did we do? We had a Medal of Honor Game Night , which I had missed unfortunately (well, both of them ). And a Red Dead Redemption Game Night , which I tried to connect to, but couldn’t (and once I fixed the problem, everyone was leaving ). Poll Results Though I posted results based on what was available last Saturday, the official results are up now. As for this week, the question is “ Which are you looking forward to getting your hands/eyes on more? ” with your choices between Move, #d, Both and Neither. Thank You Thanks for reading and, hopefully, I’ll get the next one in this Saturday. This week, PS+ starts up, with FW v3.40, and, hopefully, some cool news.
