As you may know, Microsoft’s Kinect device has been getting all sorts of development on the PC, making some rather cool uses for the technology (although not officially supported). As for the Move, not so much. That is, until GDC (which takes place from February 28th – March 4th). Sony’s John McCutchan, the Developer Support lead for SCEA, will be hosting a panel entitled “Update on PlayStation Move Development”. Here is the description of the event (from GDC’s website ): This talk will bring developers up to speed on developing for the PlayStation Move controller. We will cover developing for the new PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter accessory. We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs. No other word has been made regarding this, but it would be pretty cool to see some of the stuff hobbyists and other developers will use the Move system for. This is the first time I’ve heard of the Move Server project myself. GDC (Game Developers Conference) is the next big gaming event of the year. Source

Sony to Bring Move to PC with the Move Server Project
Thesixthaxis is reporting that gamers will be able to complete the single player portion of thatgamestudio’s Journey in roughly 3 hours. Other critically acclaimed titles for the studio, i.e Flower, were also on the short side but made up for it in replay value. Journey will also include multiplayer which will increase the title’s longevity. Look for it to release sometime this year.

Beat Journey In 3 Hours
Seems like Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath might only be making its way to the PS3 this coming Easter. According to Just Add Water they’ve received a good amount of flack for announcing that they are bringing back “Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath” revamped, for the PS3. Questions have been raised as to why the team has decided to make this a PS3 exclusive, others have asked why they aren’t making it for the Xbox, and others have asked the team not to be dicks, and support the 360. The team responded with the following: So what’s the story, whilst I can’t go into complete detail on this, I can tell you that we are NOT PS3 Exclusive. As far as we are concerned we are a multi-platform company, supporting the big 3, PC/PS3 & 360. Now with regard to Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath on the 360 there are a number of factors that are currently sitting in our way to announce a 360 version of the title, whilst we can’t go into all the details, what I can say is we are working with Microsoft to get the title on that platform, however the final decision is NOT ours. One thing we can discuss in regard to the 360 version is the size of the game. On XBLA there is a 2GigaByte size limit we have to adhere to, currently the title weighs in at 2.1GB and that is without any updates, so either we have to pull a miracle out of the bag with some type of amazing compression system, or ask Microsoft to increase their 2GB limit, however this limit is apparently hardware led, so please let us try and make a miracle happen. Supporting the big 3? What happened to the Wii? Didn’t it outsell the PS3 and the Xbox? Maybe they are just saying that the Wii can’t handle the game? What do you think?

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath Only on PS3?
Fanboys may be overly passionate in expressing disdain for the competitor, but not Sony. According to PlayStation head Shuhei Yoshida, being continually compared to Microsoft’s Kinect has got him feeling “lucky”. “[Ever] since we announced Move at E3 last year, I’ve always felt like we were lucky that Microsoft made such a big deal with Project Natal. In a broader sense, we are categorized as ‘motion gaming’- if we were just doing Move, we wouldn’t have had as much coverage and attention from media and consumers.” he furthered, “Because you have Kinect versus move, or Natal versus Motion Controller… I’ve always felt that that helps to convey our message in terms of what’s unique about Move. In our mind, from the beginning, we clearly understood the difference between what Microsoft is trying to do and what we have been doing. I feel like it’s a great thing, to have the Kinect versus Move versus Wii comparison.” Via [ GamesIndustry ]

Sony Loves the Kinect Comparison
Victory Pose for beating All Bronze Challenges Well, after a LONG wait at work to get home and play with my Move it has finally happened. As I mentioned before I picked up the bundle, plus the extra controller. I have got to say, this is the most immersive gaming experience to date. I understand Wii was the “originator” and I’m not hating on Wii, I love my Wii. But with that said, the graphics are incredible. There is a slightly longer load time than with the Wii, however it is very worth it. I have tried out all 6 sports on the Sports Champions disc, and I personally must say I am very impressed. Table Tennis was fun, yet more difficult than the Wii Sports Resort. The Gladiator Duel was AWESOME. Every game of Bocce I played won me 3 stars! I don’t know if bocce is a very well known game, I only know of it because my grandparents used to play it at there Jim Beam Bottle Club Meetings, and I have always loved it. But it is a nice addition to this game. I like the fact that you can spin the ball completely on six-axis, including forward to make the ball go very fast. Volley ball was a little more difficult for me, however it was very fun, and I did win, but with only 1 star. I kept smashing my thumbs between the controllers Disc golf was tough, it’s hard to hold the controller level, aim, and toss all at the same time. I think a peripheral for disc golf would be nice so I could judge how level i was actually holding my controller. I have saved my favorite for last. Archery. In this amazingly fun archery game you are required to grab the arrow from the quiver, knock it to the bow, and then pull back and release the arrow. I went through 6 levels of this game without retrying, there is a skeleton level AKA “challenge mode” which proved to actually be pretty difficult. But the other levels were fun, and they seemed to give you a sense of accomplishment when you could smoke your opponent, 1050 to 0 I like the different styles of archery there is with each different opponent. In Wii Sports Resort you shot an arrow at a close range and then progressively further. In Sports Champions, most of the time the position of the target is completely random. Overall I give this game a VERY high rating and think it is definitely a must-have for all Move Owners. Tired of seeing your gaming providers turn again and again to casual gamers? For those on PS3, that time is at an end. Sony have confirmed that they will be focusing less on casual projects such as Playstation Move, Buzz and other enterprises and instead on extending a hand to hardcore gamers. Sony wants to return the love we give them, it seems that since we’ve helped them, they want to help us. I for one, always think it’s nice to see a company want to actively and unnecessarily help their community. More after the jump! Sony: Quote: We now want to bring back the focus on hardcore gamers, we realise the hardcore gamers are the ones that are actively involved in the community and are constantly giving feedback not to mention being the most dedicated. Xbox Live subscribers have the privilege of excellent community features. Implemented services such as cross-game chat are invaluable and Sony are trying to strengthen the community. Sony Game Studio games always feature good single player and while I for one, greatly enjoy single player, it’s hard to communicate to friends. Sony knows this, they also know that the same single player gamers enjoy going online and decimating with clan members and friends by your side. Are they going to fill the space that separates both types of gaming? The hardcore community screams for cross game chat and Sony tell us that they are going to give us ‘what we want’. Nothing has been confirmed yet, I hope that cross-game chat will be coming to PS3 at some time in the not-so-distant future. Sony: Quote: the plan for the future is to bring the community back together However, Sony have mentioned that they will be holding tournaments in the future. Tournament features could be a godsend for gamebattles users. Sony Spokesman: Quote: What I would ideally want is 200 people playing Killzone in a tournament. Sony game studios have produced some incredible games and I believe in Sony as a company. Microsoft have served their community well and continue to do so. Now it’s time for Sony to step up to the platform (no pun intended). I’m certain that we can all look forward to whatever Sony has in store for us. I’ll look out for any other news on this matter and keep you all posted. Move, Buzz and other casual services have been brilliantly finished and the quality is dazzling. Sony knows what we want, so let them bring it to us in style. Source

Sony: Let’s Focus On Hardcore Gamers
Rumors are afloat, especially when Christmas isn’t too far away, SONY are apparently going to be releasing a ‘White’ SKU of the ever popular PS3 console in the UK this year. According to Product Reviews (and their tip offs), there are 2 models hitting the UK this October – 160GB and 320GB. Whatever happened to a 250GB model? With the Christmas rush which tends to start around October and the competition between Microsoft and SONY both trying to shift units, the white unit is quite likely to hit the UK shores. Hopefully there will be more details on whether this rumor is in fact a rumor or truth at GamesCon later this month which takes place in Germany. Rumor: White PS3 To Hit The UK In October?
This Week Thanks go out to Tosh for compiling the news from last week. Been very busy lately, but I should have some time for other stuff now that most of the things that used up my time are now finally slowing down. Anyway, there was quite a bit of news to cover actually. Oddworld seems to be making a return . Tarsier Studios is now First Party . Hip Hop Gamer did an awesome interview with Anton Mikhailov about the Move, and motion gaming in general. Rockstar will soon be targeting cheaters . And, there are a ton of gameplay videos last week, so go and read the Gaming News tab for those. One of the cooler ones is time passage in Red Dead Redemption . Pretty cool stuff and gives you a good idea of progression of time in the game and what changes around you. Community News OK, there was quite a bit of Community news last week. For one, you can earn double points for the rest of the month simply by posting in the forums ! And in case you might have missed it, Oly was at Comic-Con this year and did some live blogging so be sure to check that out, too. Tosh has compiled a list of Twitter accounts of different members and staff. There is also a Twitter widget on the site, which can be seen at the bottom of the side bar on the community pages . Another cool thing you can use is the ability to call a number and leave a voicemail . Given the interest in starting a podcast, this could be a cool feature to use to get some shout outs or what have you aired on the podcast. Hopefully we can manage to get one going, because that would be very cool. Tosh ran a giveaway for the 20,000th comment , and the winner was Oly . Congrats! Beyond that, the Weekly Recap Giveaway is still going on. I will begin reviewing entries this week to make sure entrants have done the qualifying steps. I will PM those who did not complete one of the two tasks. 24 Articles // 3 QuickNews Contributor of the Week Sakinah – 5 Entries QuickNews Contributor of the Week Tosh – 2 Entries Most Liked Trev – FIFA Rage Quitters – 4 Likes Most Comments Sakinah – My Motion Tech Is Better Than Yours! – 16 Comments Gaming News Just Add Water and You Might Get… Oddworld! The Weekly Recap (July 18th-24th)
This Week Quite a bit late with this one, for sure. Had some personal stuff going on for a while (health and vehicle related) so I had been pre-occupied with that and haven’t really been able to come on here and post much of anything. All that has finally been taken care of, though, so I’m definitely in better spirits now (that, and the Senate finally passed the much-needed Unemployment Extension). So what’s new for this week? Sakinah let us know that Hello Games broke even on release day with their title Joe Danger , which is a great title, by the way (hopefully this means more awesome games from them in the future). Darrin showed us the numbers for June . The Hulu+ service is available in preview form for PS+ subscribers . James Bond seems to be making a return , and the announcement of the title, Blood Stone , even has a debut trailer . There are a few pieces of other news as well, so be sure to check out the entirety of the recap and see what you may have missed. I’d go a little more in-depth here, but seeing as I have yet another Recap to write after this one, I need to manage my time . Community News From what I can gather, we didn’t really have much news in the Community a couple weeks ago. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t very active, though. We still had a number of posts come in. Tosh did manage to organize the top menu more, though. It makes navigation of some of the site’s pages easier and also better labeled the different link across the top to make a little more sense. There’s a new Group Forums Directory that now allows you to create new group forum topics from that page rather than having to navigate to each individual group separately. Keep in mind, not all groups have forums, so you may not be able to post a topic in a few of them. You can also check out a new Help Video on how to Favorite all the different things (news posts, topics, etc) on the site. If you aren’t a member, the contests should be enough to make you want to register! Not only that, if you’re logged in, you can join in on the Live Chat (which is always busy, save for late nights) and there are always secret contests being held there. Currently, the biggest contest we have going on ends in just a few days. If you haven’t already, you can read about the contest here .
