We’ve been flooded with reviews and preview coverage of the PlayStation Move, Microsoft’s Kinect, Nintendo’s Wii MotionPlus, and touch-input smartphone devices. I thought it would be fun to collect predictions for how all of this will actually play out in the future. In one year and two years time we will return to this and see how close our predictions were to reality. Answer the questions after the jump. View current results here Loading…

Highlights Alright, another late one! Last time I did this was back in June. Sorry again folks. As far as this week’s highlights go, if you’re a PS+ member, I definitely recommend the Blast-Off mini. There are actually quite a few minis that are really good, but looking at the poll numbers thus far, people seem to be overwhelmingly ignoring them. Qore was also released, but I’ve yet to check that out (I do have it downloaded, though). TerRover was released, but has been met with some mediocre reviews due to it’s unforgiving nature (a lot of frustration). There is a demo for that if you want to try it out (as well as 3 other titles). Jimmy’s Vendetta is available for Mafia II, Snoop Dogg has some tracks on Rock Band (wtf?), Witch Hunt DLC for Drag Age: Origins can be purchased, and there’s a decent sized collection of themes and wallpapers available as well. War for Cybertron also has a new character and map pack. There really wasn’t that much this week. With over 250k attendees and 500 companies from around the world present, Gamescom 2010 had a record turnout during the 5 day event in Cologne, Germany last week. The big three, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, all had something to show for their fans at the event. Here’s my take on the best and worse developments that came out of the trade show. The Good: Resistance 3 : We all knew it was coming but we didn’t know when to expect it. Insomniac’s Ted Price took the stage during Sony’s press conference and showed off a live action trailer for Resistance 3. While the game has been in development for two years no actual gameplay was shown at Gamescom. Instead Insomniac chose to tease gamers with a live action trailer. During an interview with the official PlayStation Blog , Mr. Price said that the decision to use live action for the reveal was to ” set the tone” and ” give people a taste of what of what’s coming with Resistance”. Mass Effect 2 ( and 3) Coming to PS3 : EA announced that Bioware’s 360 and PC only Mass Effect 2 would be hitting Sony’s PS3 early next year. The PS3 version will include DLC from the 360 and PC versions and will include a “brief introductory element to the game that takes you through the events of [Mass Effect] and introduces you to [Mass Effect 2]“. EA’s Ray Muzyka also mentioned that a PS3 version of Mass Effect 3 ( while not confirmed at this time ) would be a “good guess”. IGN The Bad: Fanboys reaction to Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 . To be fair, some 360 fanboys commenting on Facebook about Mass Effect 2 can be compared to the way certain PS3 fanboys acted when FFXIII was announced for the 360. Davonte Blaze Shaw: @ The homo Tommy Fuck u waste of life. Xbox is still better than the gay station in every way. I’ve played both GS3 sucks, the Jesus box lives on. Sam Rangel: FUCK THAT SHIT! PS3 owners can eat shit and die! Mass Effect should stay only on the X-BOX 360 and PC! The Ugly: Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono cosplaying as Chun-Li. ‘Nuff said. What was your best/worse of Gamescom 2010?

Microsoft officially revealed the pricing and details of their motion tech, Kinect, yesterday and compared it to Sony’s Move and the Nintendo Wii. According to the Microsoft when compared to the Wii and Move, Kinect is the overall winner when it comes to affordability. ( Note how Microsoft used the original PS3 “PHAT” model for their price comparison.) Well, Sony wasn’t going to take this lying down and have released their own comparison chart which shows that Move only does everything. What do you think? Did Sony prove Move to be worth the price when compared to the competition? Images courtesy of Kotaku & Dual Shockers

Celebrating a Full Year of the Weekly Recap! And don’t forget to check out the contest This Week So, this is a pretty exciting recap. Been doing it for a full year now and still going. With that, we’re also launching a new contest , so be sure to check out the Community News tab for contest details. Big prizes, too! Now, for last week’s highlights. Oly informed us that Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is NOT a sequel . You can also read his Day 1 experience at E3 . Madagasca wants to know what games you want brought back from the dead. Demerson let us know that a Ratchet and Clank collection could be made , but that the developers themselves won’t be working on it. Both Ace and SL33PY informed us of Sony working on new hardware (I knew I read that somewhere on here, so sorry for allowing a double posting of a news story ). Sakinah also told about YouTube ’s plans on getting 3D videos streamed to the PS3 , which is a pretty cool idea. Red Dead Redemption will be receiving more DLC , which include a lot of new single player stuff as well. Dragon Age 2 will be hitting PS3 . And Oly showed us a teaser for a Kratos figure made by Sideshow Collectibles , which will have a formal debut at Comic Con . And finally, read Henning ’s impressions of the long-awaited Canada video store . You can also check out reviews for Tales of Monkey Island and a triple header of minis reviews. Now, there’s still more to check out, and I advise you to go through it all, especially the new stuff, and the contest. Check out the “ A Look Back… ” tab, too, for a brief history of the recap. Here’s to another year! A Look Back… So yeah, I’ve been doing this for a whole year now. Where the heck did the time go? Anyway, in this tab, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane. Each of the pictures links to the original article So back in the middle of July of last year, and with the increase of articles being posted and the like, I had decided to start doing a weekly recap. Without prior discussion with anyone else on the site, I went ahead and created it. Tosh, who had recently picked up ownership of the site, liked the idea, and since then, the Weekly Recap has come up every week (this is actually recap #53, which means this one is the start of a new year for it). Back then, it was very simple. It only listed articles and who submitted the most comments and the like, and since then, it had actually grown and evolved quite a bit. A couple weeks later, and after some discussion with Tosh, we changed the main banner to better reflect the new theme Tosh had implemented. It used the font used in the top banner, but had a newly (badly) made background image. It looked a lot cleaner and more professional than the recaps before, at least. The following Recap, I added some smaller banners, introducing new pieces and the like, giving more content to read. From here on, the more familiar Recaps started, with new banners to mimic the main banner at the top of the recap, dividing it more effectively. On the November 8th edition, in an effort to get more people involved with the community, and provide links to the Weekly posts, which were not counted, I provided the buttons that are found at the side bar. This was another feature I had used from that moment (the next week, I had added the New Game Releases button, which was another feature I had started). Now, on the December 13th edition, the recaps gained a bit of color to match the banner at the top. Features and content didn’t change from the previous versions, but it does look a lot better than the grayscale banners. These banners are still in use today. This is the one that will be most familiar to you. Thanks to a new feature at the time (the tabs), the Recap cleaned up a LOT, and navigation through it was made much, much easier. Until the February 21st edition , Poll results were text-based, but since then, I have used Google gadgets to create interactive graphs. Quite a few changes in a year. In case you’re wondering, I have added some new stuff to this one as well, in the Community News and Gaming News tabs, so be sure to check those out. As far as this tab goes? It’s a one of, in celebration of keeping this going for a year! Community News Not too many new features lately, but now, above every comment made by members (who are logged into the site), their point data will also be displayed . Given that points are awarded to people who find some of the new features, its a good idea to become a member, and participate in the Live Chat, where these mini-contests take place. The only other new feature would have to be the updated Weekly Recap, with these new sub-banners on this, and the Gaming News tab. To continue with the winning entries for the Red Dead Redemption Chronicle contest, you can now read EdEN’s entry , titled Life’s Tough , and Part one and Part two of David Goransson ’s chronicle, Dirty Pants . As far as part two goes, EdEN won the contest, which entails correctly guessing what would happen next. Though no one guessed correctly, EdEN was randomly selected as the winner. Now for a new contest. This one requires two parts. Part one, you must create an image superimposed with the avatars of the staff members (you can use either just one, or a combination of avatars). You don’t have to be a professional or anything, but it must, at least, show some effort. If all you have is Paint, that’s perfectly fine. Just be creative! Here’s an example , made by Oly and Demerson (well, Demerson did the caption). Part two? You will, then, have to submit points to the Lottery . Each lottery entry will be 250 points, with a maximum of 1000 points (4 lottery entries; please donate each 250 points separately). This way, Oly won’t necessarily win . You only need one image, and not one for each lottery entry. If you so choose, you can go ahead and create multiple images, but it’s not going to better your chances of winning. This is also one of the bigger contests, too, thanks to Tosh . Check out the prizes: 1st Prize : $50 PSN Giftcard (you can get PlayStation Plus with this if you haven’t already gotten it) 2nd Prize : PS3Blog.net T-Shirt 3rd Prize : Points refunded, plus another 500 Now, as for member avatars. here’s the list: Tosh – Darrin – Eddie – Trev – Jay – Sakinah – Henning – Gary Need a larger version of an image? No problem! Simply PM Tosh and he’ll get them for you. Good luck to the entrants! Just leave a reply with a link to your image and then proceed with submitting the points. Other than that, there isn’t one currently planned, but you never know, so keep your eyes peeled! Poll Results The results for the previous poll can be viewed on the last recap. As for the current poll? We’re asking you “Will you be purchasing the Move?”, so if you haven’t yet voted, be sure to do so! Thank You Thank you all for a great year. I’m glad to have been getting these up every week (albeit, a little late a few times). Hopefully you like the new changes, as everything news-related should now be easily categorized so you guys can access news that interests you much easier. Also, beyond the banners shown, I do have a couple more that weren’t used, mainly because we didn’t have any news articles that needed them. Again, thanks for reading the recaps, and good luck to all the contest winners!

The Weekly Recap (July 4th-10th) – 1 Year Anniversary
Talk is starting up again about Sony’s next home console, but according to Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida, they likely won’t be the ones to kick the next generation off. Speaking to Develop, Yoshida said he believes either Nintendo or Microsoft will release their next generation consoles first. “Looking from the outside, it was Microsoft that released the first of this generation of consoles. Naturally, in my opinion, Microsoft will make the first move. “Or, because Nintendo’s approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware – Wii doesn’t even support HD resolution – so they might be the first to move. “Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.” “Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan.” I can honestly say i agree with Yoshida, I think the PS3 is going to have many more strong years. What do you guys think? Who’s gonna step into the next generation first? Nintendo? Microsoft? Or will Sony surprise? Via [ Develop ]

Sony: Microsoft or Nintendo Will Kick Off Eighth Console Generation
Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that Sony is indeed already working on some new hardware. “Yes, we are undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public,” Yoshida told Develop. “Some future platform related activities.” Yoshida didn’t specify if it’s a new portable or a new home console. What Yoshida did explain however was that Sony’s next line of PlayStations will be more developer-friendly, thanks to input from SCE president Kaz Hirai. “When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Harai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get Worldwide Studios in on hardware development’,” Yoshida said. “So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning [of the concept of the new hardware], and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].” This closer collaboration between the hardware and software development teams is also reportedly what helped spawn the PlayStation Move motion controller. “Move is one of those new ways of developing platforms,” said Yoshida. Sony working on ‘future platform related activities’
It’s pretty common practice for major publishers to throw jabs at each others’ hardware and gameplan, but when Sony Worldwide Studios chief Shuhei Yoshida was asked about Nintendo’s criticism of their 3D push, he took the “don’t hate, appreciate” route. While Sony had been busying itself with 3D TVs, 3D games, and 3D-fying systems, Nintendo has been fortifying the 3DS. Both publishers are the only ones with announced 3D gaming systems, but they’re clearly going about it differently. “I have hope that they have a broader perspective with 3D,” Yoshida said. “When you listen to what they are saying about the effect of 3D perspective to the games, they are saying the same message we are, but they don’t have to bash some small part of what the other company is doing.” But instead of launching a counterattack, Yoshida extends the arm of friendship. “I think as an industry we should preach this new perspective, from a very large cinema screen to a small portable, because that helps advancing the games and the game industry,” he said. “We’d like to work together to promote 3D.” [via IGN ]
