Del Rey Books Will Publish a Novel Based on Bethesda’s RAGE

A press release from Bethesda Softworks, and Del Rey Books, just announced that a book based on the forthcoming game Rage is in the works. Rage is the next game from id, the creators of Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. Rage won many awards at E3 2010, and looks to be a cross between Fallout and Borderlands. It is definitely a game I will be checking out a lot closer. The novel, also titled Rage, will be released in North America on August 30, 2011. A plot for the novel can be read after the jump. The novel delves even deeper into this world and its characters through the pen of Matt Costello–the same person who helped write the story for the game. The world was doomed and only some of the population could be saved. That was what the scientists were saying, at least. So the best and brightest were gathered and put into stasis deep beneath the surface of the Earth–buried so that man could live. – When Lt. Nick Raine emerges from his Ark, he finds the human race has not been wiped out. And people, as resilient as they are, are scraping together a new world from the rubble of the old. This was not what anyone in the Arks expected–a new society where might is right, mutants plague the Earth, and “friend” is a term for the person who hasn’t stabbed you in the back. PAX East 2011: Uncharted 3 Outtakes

The video shows some amazing gameplay, but mostly gives us a behind-the-scenes look at voice-acting for possibly the biggest game in 2011. The Uncharted 3 crew recently showed off this video at PAX East the quality isn’t the best in the world due to lighting being so poor, but you can still get a good glimpse of the humor Nolan North and Richard McGonagle are sharing together. This might be the closest we can get to Uncharted 3 before it hits this fall. Nathan’s latest adventure won’t be coming out till November 1st in North America, and November 4th in the UK.

Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder PS3Blog.net Review and Giveaway Contest!

Welcome to PS3Blog.net’s exclusive two part article featuring a review for “Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder” for the PSP and PS3 which is a new addition to growing list of Playstation minis. Review Playstation minis have been slowly growing into its own over the past year or so with several games being released but all have been pretty easy to overlook until now. Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder prides itself with being the “worst game ever made” by iFun4all who also prides their self with being the worst development team of all time. They even stated that the North American version of this game was delayed due to them getting drunk all of the time and losing electricity in their tiny Hungarian village. A sort of stationary tower and defense game based on child like coloring paper, you take control of a tank turret to blast away at soldiers moving at vastly different speeds while picking up power ups to help you kill more hand drawn drunkenly scribbled soldiers. Obtaining power ups as you kill off these soldiers hell bent on crossing the road is essential on many levels. You can get a slow motion power up, triple tank shot, bring the rain with a 6 missile volley, set up a single or triple triggered land mine or cause an earthquake to shake up the lines. The whole point of the game is to not allow any soldiers to pass from the right side of the screen, all the way to the left side of the screen. Shooting your shell takes some charging up time and the distance the shell travels also takes a little while so there is a lot of judging time and distance when blowing up the troops. You want to be sure to meet each challenges goal of killing so many soldiers while not allowing a certain number to sneak by. There are three campaigns and an additional game mode that you can choose from. The regular campaign, Winter Assault and Cyber Wars are the different campaigns while Survival mode is the additional feature mode at the title screen. Survival mode is just an endless assault of paper soldiers to see how long you could last before allowing 50 soldiers to pass from one side of the screen to the other. This game is fun with no doubt and looks equally impressive (well as impressive as cut up pieces of paper with scribbled coloring and almost brain hurting purposely misspelled words can be) on both the PSP and the big screen. There are achievements and/or medals that you can go back to earn with each level that you complete and can even go back to try to obtain better results. After spending hours with this game and laughing at the silly sound effects and crazy blood coming from paper soldiers, I can easily say, much to iFun4all’s chagrin, that this is the one of the best additions to Playstation minis. Solid 9/10 Giveaway Contest And now for the giveaway contest for a chance to win a free copy of Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder! NGP News Round Up

NGP NGP has been a source of media attention since it has announced with rumors, requests and some sprinkled in info. Developers seem to be in a supportive frenzy unlike which I have seen for any other platform in the past. I’ve seen developers go back and forth over the console that they are developing for but I’ve never seen this number of developers show unanimous support for a single console prior to its launching like this one. It surely gets the brain going. Retailers Preferred Price – From MCVUK , some retailers are speaking up on preferred price. Retailers are asking Sony for a sub £300 price range to be successful. That’s roughly $480 in North America, but as we know there is not a direct currency translation between us and the UK. Currently the PS3 is about £258.37 in the UK. (UK guys feel free to correct me). So they are asking for the NGP to be priced around the same price as the PS3. For reference, the 3DS is listed at £229.99. Developer Smiling – From Scrawlfx.com Creative Directed Ru Weerasuriya from Ready at Dawn had a lot to say about the NGP at the DICE summit. Ready at Dawn is known for the PSP versions of God of War. ” I have a smile on my face whenever we talk about the NGP because I think overall that console has the potential to really define what portable gaming is. You know, we did that also with the PS3 and all that, but the NGP — not only with the touch screen capability, but the screen, and just the capacity of actually making a game that’s probably better than PS3 games that you can make right now — for me, it’s like the thing. For portable gaming I don’t think there’s anything else in the future.” Nippon Ichi – according to Destructoid , Vice President of Nippon Ichi , Johanna Hirota, has confirmed that they are working on a game for the NGP that will be ready “This Year”, which brings light to a 2011 release at least in Japan. Nippon Ichi is best known for the Disgaea series so maybe that’s what we will see on the NGP? Famitsu Response – Andriasang , has listed Famitsu readers responses as to what they want with the NGP. DO YOU WANT AN NGP? Even though there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding NGP, including details on price and launch titles, Famitsu’s readers appear to be largely excited about the system. Asked if they want the NGP, 76.2% said yes. Only 7.9% said no, with the remaining 15.9% saying they’re still not sure. HOW MUCH WILL NGP COST? How much interest the NGP ends up drawing will likely have a lot to do with price. The second item in the survey was a multiple choice question about expected price. 42.5% selected ¥30,000 or below as the system’s expected price point. The second most popular response was ¥35,000 and below at 18.7%, followed by ¥25,000 and below at 17%. 1.5% expect the system to cost below ¥15,000, which would be lower than the PSP’s current ¥16,800. 3.7% expect it to cost over ¥50,000. Famitsu didn’t get a reason from those who selected ¥15,000. However, a 44-year-old man who selected ¥50,000 said that he expects the system to cost around the level of current Smartphones. WHAT NGP COLORS DO YOU WANT? Sony showed white and black NGP models at the PlayStation Meeting unveiling. White is actually the most wanted color amongst survey takers, getting 224 votes. Blue came in second with 183 votes, followed by Red, Silver and Green. Black didn’t make the top five. WHAT ARE NGP’S MOST APPEALING FEATURES? NGP is packed with features, from its massive screen to its various input devices to built in 3G support and software features like Near and LiveArea. Famitsu asked readers which feature is most notable. The top response with 680 votes was the system’s ability to deliver console-level graphics. Coming in at a close second with 622 votes was the system’s dual analogue stick setup. Screen resolution of four times that of the PSP came in at third with 607 votes. WHAT GENRE DO YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH TOUCH CONTROLS? One of the NGP’s more unique features is its inclusion of dual touch panels, one on the screen and one behind the unit. At the press conference, Sony demonstrated dual touch controls for Uncharted and Little Deviants. Famitsu asked readers to name the genre the’d most like to see use dual touch controls. Action was the most popular response by far, beating out puzzle, simulation, FPS and adventure in that order. Among the responses, one 20-year-old college student suggested that the rear touch pad could be appropriate when you have to control something separate from your character. Some responders felt that the dual touch panels could lead to revolutionary controls. WHAT GAME SERIES DO YOU WANT TO PLAY ON NGP? The result for this question shouldn’t come as a surprise. Monster Hunter got 282 votes, almost as much as the other four in the top five combined. Metal Gear Solid was second, followed by Final Fantasy, Tales and Kingdom Hearts. One responder said that because the system has a right analogue stick similar to the Dual Shock, he wants to play Monster Hunter. Somewhat related to this, Famitsu’s readers selected Capcom as their most wanted NGP third party developer. Konami came next, followed by Square Enix, Sega and Namco Bandai.

New Rage Trailer and Screen Shots

Rage was originally announced in 2007, but will finally be launched on Sept. 13th in North America, and Sept. 16th in Europe of this year. This game that has aspects of both Fallout and Borderlands, looks very good. Rage is a first person shooter, with RPG elements, as well as dune buggy driving / combat. The game is set in an asteroid/earth collision, caused post-apocalyptic wasteland. The asteroid, Apophis, a real life astroid, which will pass near Earth in 2036, collides with earth in 2037, and destroys 30% of all life almost instantly. As seen in the other, similar set games, bandits and mutants will be the main enemies of the game. The player has been “saved” by being cryogenically sealed in an underground “Ark”, and awakens with no memory of who or where he is. (Starting to sound even more familiar?) The official web site for Rage , which was just given a major face-lift today, describes it this way: August 23, 2037: Apophis 99942 strikes the eastern hemisphere. Carrying the force of 2.4 million megatons, 30% of life on Earth becomes extinct in 26 seconds. Within one year 80% of all life is gone. To make matters worse, Apophis contained large amounts of heavy elements. Darkness blankets the planet. The Earth falls into an impact winter lasting almost 50 years and life on the surface is driven to the brink. Prior to impact, in an effort to save human civilization, Arks are constructed and buried deep underground. These cryogenic lifeboats carry humanity’s future, preserved with the tools they need to rebuild. They are the seeds of Earth’s rebirth. But when survivors begin to emerge from the Arks, they find the unexpected. Many humans who were above ground during the impact unexpectedly survived, while horrific mutants roam the dead cities. And a mysterious tyrannical government, bent on creating a new world order, has begun the search . . . for you. This is definately a game I am going to keep my eyes on. I will keep you posted of any new information, so make sure you check back often!
