Two new commercials are going to be hitting the streets to promote the PlayStation Move sharp shooter in some good old Killzone 3 action. As always the commercials have a good amount of humor in them and damn does Killzone 3 look good!
If you were anything like me, when portal hit the PS3 with Team Fortress 2, and the Half Life collection packaged in a perfect match up called the Orange Box, you went out and got it right away and first thing you did was tear into Portal with a fervor like a hungry man tears into a steak. After completing Portal I felt incomplete….alone, well no more, we learned last year at E3 that we would be getting a juicy sequel to the critically acclaimed title from Valve software. With Portal 2 set to launch in April of this year loaded with features, today we learn about another juicy feature to the most anticipated game of 2011, Deploying surprise in…3…2…1…Move support! Yes that’s right, Portal 2 will feature “full move support” according to Valve. Valve’s own Chet Faliszek spoke of the feature VIA the German PlayStation blog and claimed it was “compensation for PS3 users not getting a Left 4 Dead release” (I think Valve is starting to see the light and are regretting not giving the PS3 the attention it deserves) Other goodies that came with this update include PS3-Exclusive cloud saves, and a free code for a PC version of portal 2, also PS3 players will enjoy cross platform gaming with PC players through Steam, it just keeps getting better and better, April can’t come soon enough!! Portal 2 to Get Move Support!
Modern Combat was released on the PSN with quite the following of praise. Sadly as is the case with many titles it quickly fell victim to hackers. See the video below: Patch details after the jump. Gameloft is not only aware of the issue but have released a full update list of an upcoming patch that will fix these issues. Heres what you can expect: * Anti-Hacking protection * Invisible collision amendments to some maps. * Respawn: prevent face-to-face respawns. * Default time for a game in objective mode set to 3 minutes. * Modification of the range of the knife (distance and angle). * Possibility to change the range of the ping display. * Money accumulates from $2400 instead of $0 in all modes featuring respawn. * Quick fix of ‘death on respawn’ problems caused by connection issues. * Adjusting of controls sensitivity. Hopefully those who purchased the title wont be so quick to drop their support for gameloft and will give the patch a chance. Via thesixthaxis

Modern Combat Domination Patch Inbound
As you may know, Microsoft’s Kinect device has been getting all sorts of development on the PC, making some rather cool uses for the technology (although not officially supported). As for the Move, not so much. That is, until GDC (which takes place from February 28th – March 4th). Sony’s John McCutchan, the Developer Support lead for SCEA, will be hosting a panel entitled “Update on PlayStation Move Development”. Here is the description of the event (from GDC’s website ): This talk will bring developers up to speed on developing for the PlayStation Move controller. We will cover developing for the new PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter accessory. We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs. No other word has been made regarding this, but it would be pretty cool to see some of the stuff hobbyists and other developers will use the Move system for. This is the first time I’ve heard of the Move Server project myself. GDC (Game Developers Conference) is the next big gaming event of the year. Source

Sony to Bring Move to PC with the Move Server Project
Thesixthaxis is reporting that gamers will be able to complete the single player portion of thatgamestudio’s Journey in roughly 3 hours. Other critically acclaimed titles for the studio, i.e Flower, were also on the short side but made up for it in replay value. Journey will also include multiplayer which will increase the title’s longevity. Look for it to release sometime this year.

Move Attachment A new Move attachment is due out with the upcoming Killzone 3, in February simple called sharp shooter. This attachment will be a new gun that houses both move controller, and the navigation controller. It has supposedly been designed for both comfort and precision, with an adjustable stock, digital trigger, easy to reach buttons, and easy access to the navigation controller. The gun will have different firing modes a pump-action mode and a reload button, to help with different ways to play games. It will retail at $39.99, which for me seems pretty steep for an attachment. Wonder with these different attachments, and more FPS using the Move, will more people put down the controller and pick up the gun. Dualshock In addition to a Move attachment we will also be getting a new Dualshock 3 controller color called “Jungle Green”. It will be green on top and underneath the controller will still be black, as seen in the picture. Have to say I am not a big fan of the color green but this controller certainly looks better than my standard black ones. This will also be coming out in February with Killzone 3, retailing at $54.99. Still can’t believe the price on the controller have not went down, oh well what can we do. Hopefully they will do some kind of bundle with either the controller or the sharp shooter attachment. Looking like the start of next year is going to be pretty big with LBP2, KZ3, etc… I’m certainly looking forward to it, better start saving.

New Move Sharp Shooter Attachment and Dualshock 3 Color
PS3Blog.net got invited by Seed Studios for preview of upcoming PSN title Under Siege, a RTS available only on PS3 via the PS Store and is scheduled for release before Christmas this year. What makes Under Siege different from other RTS games is that it has been designed for the casual as well as the hardcore gamer. This is through some interesting design decisions and implementation of the Move controller as well as its plot. Under Siege is a RTS that focuses on a band of characters (there is an accompanying comic detailing their story) rather than whole armies in fact its more like an adventure game seen from the sky. There is no resource collecting and after you start the mission there are no changes to your units until you finish the mission. You earn coins during missions that can be used to level up and buy new units at the start of each mission during the preparation phase. It makes it that much easier to drop in and play with minimal downtime starting up a match, you simply select what you want and then proceed through the mission. There is a sense of progression throughout the game not just provided by the ongoing story but also by your characters carrying over XP from each mission so there is a real sense of loss when one of your high level soldiers dies. Each type of soldier also has their own special ability such as Soldiers taunting to distract the enemy from your weaker troops or Archers who can heal. The controls make the most of the Dual Shock with holding down X creating a larger circle until you release so you can decide how many troops to select (a neat feature seen before in Xbox’s Halo Wars). The dual sticks are made the most of with the left used to move the cursor about and the right to rotate the screen, d-pad shortcuts can also be assigned to specific troops for quick selection of certain units – having these customisable really helps you to feel in control. Move was implemented into Under Siege from its creation with Sony offering Seed a prototype after its unveiling at E3 in 2009, it works in the same fashion as a mouse. Using the Move as a cursor you can quickly move across the screen and when the cursor hits the edge of the screen it moves across the map while twisting the controller rotates the viewing angle. Its intuitive but i found it too fiddly to be a better choice than the Dual Shock which i had more confidence in for when i needed to make quick movements in the heat of battle. I think this may be down to personal preference though as I have yet to try a game that offers both joypad and motion control where I have preferred to not use a pad. Under Siege also supports multiplayer, as is the norm, via online and splitscreen as well as playing other user’s created maps – more on that later. There are a variety of multiplayer modes from Capture the Flag to Deathmatch, Survival plus more yet to be announced. Coop modes are also available and all multiplayer types support up to 4 people in all variations so you could even make a game of 3v1 or all 4 against A.I. Unfortunately I was unable to try out multiplayer as it wasn’t available at the event but I was assured it was fully functioning and could see it working well. I did however get to try the creator mode which was probably the most promising aspect of Under Siege that was shown. Much like LittleBigPlanet all the levels in the campaign mode were made using the same tools as the creation mode allowing budding designers to create levels of equal if not higher quality. Whole new game modes, stories with cut scenes and full campaigns with sequential levels can be created. As US uses the same deferred rendering engine as Killzone resulting in fantastic lighting effects that can add real character to a level. It’s a very online orientated game similar to LittleBigPlanet or GT5 with online menus displaying what your friends are up to and keeping you informed all the time. It’s also one of the few download only titles to feature a Platinum trophy, Filipe Pina Producer of Under Siege, assured me there would be no impossible trophies and that hunting them all down shouldn’t prove to be a chore. Technically its impressive running at 1080p with only some slight v-sync issues, the aforementioned deferred rendering engine helps the game look great and there is considerable detail despite the wide top-down view. Under Siege will be released on PSN only before Xmas priced $19.99/14.99€ /£11.99, look out for our review soon to see if Under Siege can deliver on the promising battle plans they have laid down.

Under Siege Hands On
A week ago I got my grubby hands on The Fight: Lights Out (regards to Trev & Tosh for hooking me up with a promo copy). With me being heavily into sports and somewhat liking UFC etc, I wanted to get involved in the sport without physically getting battered and bruised – so, what better way to do this than play a game of The Fight: Lights Out. I always seemed to think I was a pretty athletic/fit person due to the amount of sports I used to play, however I don’t think I was prepared for what I was about to encounter. Before you get the chance to get involved, you are required to install the game onto your PS3’s hard drive. This took around 10 – 15 mins, and even though it’s not a long time to wait to play the game, the install felt like it was taking forever. There may be a plus side to this, perhaps the game was installing the extensive video footage that’s shown in the game? Once the game was installed I was ready to go. Before you get the chance to actually play the game, I was taken through a series of tutorial videos which were recorded by Danny Trejo – from the famed Machete, From Dusk Til Dawn and the more recent cameo in Predators. These videos provided a thorough tutorial on how to fight using the PlayStation Move Wands. After each video tutorial, you were expected to carry out the fighting task you’ve just seen in the tutorial. The whole process of tutoring yourself took around 30 to 40 mins – as I said, it was quite thorough. Danny then takes a seat back and comes to your aid as and when you request/require it. This is when you get the chance to start fighting. You create your fighter, add some skill points to certain categories; i.e. Strength, Power, Speed etc and you’re all set to go out and get battered black and blue. Just so you know, I used 2 PlayStation Motion controllers whilst playing the game. This adds a new dimension to actually playing the game – with both fists! I started my first fight and within a minute, I’d knocked the opponent out. He went flying into a corner and then I was awarded 1 star. The stars represented the challenges you were supposed to complete in each fight, with 2 stars (maximum) representing something like knocking out your opponent in less than 30 seconds or knocking out an opponent with less than 20% damage to yourself. I have to admit, I kind of like the challenges as I’m a perfectionist – and I wanted all the stars for each fight! You also win cash for each fight you get through – the bigger the fight, the more cash you earn. Even though each fight lasted around 2 minutes, you do feel like you’ve had a good workout without going to the gym. Each fighter you fight has a different style, and obviously becomes harder to beat. After a few matches they start fighting dirty and that’s when you start to learn the dirty tricks. As the game progresses you start to unlock the dirty tricks and you revisit Danny’s gym in order to learn these tricks. The fights also get more interesting as you get to bet on the fights and win some cash. The best odds are given for a completely dirty fight where you have to achieve around 75% of the punches thrown by you to be dirty! Other features of the game involve you selecting the intros and outros for your character – for example an intro where you direct a psycho stare (while moving up and down the fighting arena) towards your opponent or an outro showing how cool you are after you win your fight. These features you have to unlock. You can also buy Cheat Packs from the PlayStation Store in order to unlock dirty tricks, intros and outros etc; and these packs are also relatively, in my opinion, pretty cheap – although I haven’t yet purchased one. I’m hardcore so I guess I’ll fight my way through the game. There is a lot to the game in regards to the amount of fighters you have to fight and the districts you have to fight through, however the game itself isn’t one which you can play for hours non-stop unless you’ve got a duracell battery that just goes on and on and on and on – I guess you catch my drift? I’ve up until now avoided the question, how do the Move controls fare with the functionality of the game? Well, I’m impressed. I didn’t notice any major problems with the Move Wands, there might’ve been a millisecond of lag but it was barely noticeable. The game did exactly as I wanted it to while I was busy punching the ‘Lights Out’ of my opponent. Every move was captured accurately. Your head movement was captured and your body movement was captured correctly too. However, there was one major problem with the game which I found to be quite irritating – at first, and that was to stay on the same spot and not jump around my living room while trying to fight. The more I played the game though, the more I got used to it – and to be fair, you don’t expect the PS Eye to spot you if you’re not in front of it. Last but not least, at the beginning of each fight you were expected to re-calibrate your wands. However, this isn’t something I would consider to be an issue as you have do this with many other games and in all honesty – calibration takes less than 10 seconds of your time. So after playing this game for a few days, and lots of sweating – yes it does make you sweat – lots! I guess the ultimate question is – Is this game worth my hard earned cash? Or is this game worth a space on my games shelf?. It all depends on what you want out of the game – me personally, I’d buy it for a number of reasons, fitness being one of them. The game will keep you fit and knock a few pounds off your belly after a couple of hours play. The game itself is quite enjoyable (if you’re into fighting) – yes it’s repetitive and you don’t really get any street cred for showing that you’re tough but it keeps the mind active by putting you in a survival situation – knock the other fighter out or get knocked out! This game has a space on my game shelf – mind you games that I don’t play get traded in for new ones. It would probably get played around once a week - however it would get played more often when my friends would come around. Final Verdict? Review Pros Cons PS Move gameplay accuracy Plenty of fighters to knock out Plenty of features to unlock Use of ‘dirty tricks’ to overcome opponent Get’s you fit! Video tutorial is too long and at times slow Need to remain in one position while fighting Need to re-calibrate at the beginning of every match (even though I don’t mind it) Rating 68% There’s only so much you can put into a game and with a fighting game such as this, I honestly can’t see it being improved any further. No disrespect to the developers – the game is good, but to get a higher score I’d want to play the game more often than I currently do. I would normally go to the gym once a week – yes I’m lazy, hence the game would also see the same amount of light per week.
