The PSP Remaster series will use adhoc party for its multiplayer-based PSP games. Adhoc party is available for download via the PlayStation Store and is a software that turns your PS3 into a server of sorts for connecting the PSP to users around the world. This is how Adhoc is described by the wiki The purpose of this software is to extend the PlayStation Portable’s adhoc game function using the PlayStation Network through the PlayStation 3′s built-in wi-fi. Therefore it is not compatible with the non-wifi enabled PlayStation 3 20GB model (CECHB00). The PlayStation 3 must be connected to the Internet with a broadband network (wired) connection since the wireless connection is used as a server for the PlayStation Portable. Another constraint is the PlayStation Portable user must remain close to the PlayStation 3 so the PS3 to PSP wi-fi connection is still active during ad hoc playtime. This software therefore benefits those with a PSP who wish to play online but have no wireless internet connection available to them or ad-hoc only multiplayer games. The PSP to PSP ad hoc connection is replaced by a PSP to PS3 ad hoc connection to allow online gaming on a global scale through the PlayStation Network enabled PlayStation 3. It allows advanced online multiplayer functions on the PlayStation Portable such as voice chat using the PlayStation 3 official bluetooth headset or the PlayStation Eye webcam’s microphone. Text chat, known as “lobby chat”, is also possible within public (“Free”) rooms and private (“Password”) rooms.[5][6] The PlayStation 3 official Wireless Keypad is also supported, however, users must press the Enter key to begin typing. That’s the basic rundown. Here is the kicker, and this may not sit well with many users: you must have a wired connection in order to use Adhoc Party. You can have 3 users on a PSP and the host on the PS3 in the same room with the remaster series, which is just awesome. This was confirmed by the quirky group over at Famitsu, as seen below, using none other than Monster Hunter 3rd HD ( go figure right). So when Peace Walker lands on the PS3 you will need to have adhoc party and be familiar with its functions in order to get some MP gaming on. Thoughts on wired connection only? Have many of you even heard of Adhoc party? Source: Famitsu

Splinter Cell HD 1080p Gameplay
In an interview for Eurogamer , Rage creative director Tim Willits spoke of locking out some single-player content for people who bought the game used: We have the first-time buyer stuff with all the sewers hatches, If you bought the game new, that would be open for you. You still have to download it, but you don’t have to pay for it. Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you’re like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That’s our first-time buyer incentive. In simple words, Rage will not require an online Pass to unlock the multiplayer mode (that would be a code that comes with new copies, or bought online for a fee). Instead, used copies of Rage will lock some sewers hatches in the single-player campaign which are the paths needed to enter new missions in the campaign and a “thank you” to players who bought a new copy of Rage! Rage is set to launch on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 4 2011.

An interesting inquiry based on the doom and gloom stories we have been reading across the net about how smartphones, iPads and tablets will usurp the mobile gaming crown and push out dedicated mobile gaming devices such as the Playstation Vita and the 3DS. I can’t take credit for posing this question among gamers as that belongs to Labadal who posted this question on NeoGaf . It’s not often I will take part of the interwebz circle that seems to follow the GAF > NET > GAF phenomenon, but I decided to take the data from this question and put it in easy to swallow numbers. I read each and every reply to this thread and kept a detailed tally of the 292 answers. 59% answered Yes! These current owners of portable technology still see value in the Vita and what it offers. This actually struck me as odd because I really did believe that smartphone/tablet gaming was slowly taking over. There is a substantial difference between the bite sized games we get on smartphones vs dedicated gaming devices such as the 3DS or the Vita. 24% said No. The most interesting part of this crowd who did not find the Vita a worthwhile purchase, made it clear that their smartphone/tablet gaming had no affect on their decision. Well I suppose I should say the majority as a few did say the iPhone was enough for them but we are talking only 5 or 6 responses that agreed with that. 17% said Maybe . Most were clear that they had interest with the right types of games. A few said they would follow the JRPG’s, a few more said they would follow new IP’s, etc. Some pretty much said that they didn’t want to be the 1st to buy a new hardware and wanted to give it some time to grow or die before they decided to make a purchase We have to understand that the control group for such a poll is a little skewed since it was made up of almost entirely core gamers I would say. However what this does tell me is that smartphones, iPads and tablets may not be taking away from the mobile gaming market but instead, growing it in several directions. Creating the right hardware accompanied with the right software will always take hold and flourish with the right price points and marketing. There will always be people who disagree and spread the doom and gloom stories but taking a step back and trying to look at the whole view…even in little chunks such as this one could give you a a little more truth to the tale.

Garage developer Rubicon has praised Sony and their support on their assistance with their new title Great Little War Game for the IOS and Playstation Vita. Rubicon went on to say that the title is available on the IOS right now and is already completed for the Vita for when it goes on sale. When asked how they received devkits so fast, Rubicon responded by saying that they showed Sony their new game, they felt it was a good match on the Vita and immediately shipped out four free devkits to Rubicon. It is currently unknown whether this will be a packaged game or a downloadable one but it is great to see IOS/Android games so quickly made for the Vita and its even greater to see Sony supporting developers along the way. Should this relationship continue between Sony and developers, we should see PSN explode with games. Source: Neogaf 1 , 2 , 3 GAF > Net > GAF
