It’s been a while since I’ve written anything, and with parental duties taking over at the moment, the first chance I get to do something for myself and I decided to write about a major gripe I have with the PS Store. I personally don’t know of many that have experienced the issue I faced not so long ago, but I do know after googling around that this is something that has existed ever since the PS3 was launched back in 2006/7. So, what was the issue? Well, just before PS Move came out (yes, it was that long ago), I decided to purchase Flight Control HD as it was a game I was quite addicted to on my iPhone, and with the game having Move compatibility I was completely sold on having it. So I decided to purchase it the day it came out on the PS Store. As normal, I continued to go through my purchase on the store and BAM! Your credit card details are invalid. Err….hang on – invalid! WT#? I had made many a purchase without changing my CC details on my PS account but why the error message?? So I decided to double check the details. Ok – no problem here, let’s try again and purchase FC HD. Was the system having it. Nope! Even though all my details were correct – including my card details, I was being told I couldn’t buy FC HD! After multiple attempts of re-entering my personal and CC details I got rather pee’d off. So, what next? I googled the problem to see if there was a solution. This is where things started to worry me. There were many a solution but they weren’t proper fixes or they didn’t actually work. I tried to login to the PS Store Account Management website to update my details there to see if that would help – this however did not help at all. I eventually picked up the phone to PlayStation Support, and I got through to a very helpful chap in less than 3 mins (I’m not exaggerating here). We went through my purchase history and any codes that may be fired whilst my purchase was going through – he even double checked my details to ensure they are as they appear on my CC and my bank statements. All was fine. Even the support guy was bemused to why this was happening. Then it got slightly worse. Whilst on the phone, we tried to make the purchase and my PS Store purchases got blocked for 24 hours. If I attempted to purchase anything via the PS Store within these 24 hours, the 24 hours would shift forward until the clock cycle had completed. As Tony the Tiger would say – grrrrrrrreaaat! I was advised to check with my bank to ensure my card hadn’t been blocked etc. Thankfully – all was ok. 24 hours later, I managed to purchase FC HD and I was a happy bunny. I hoped that this was a one-off, unfortunately it wasn’t. The same thing happened again, this time it was on the day Sonic 4 was released on the store – and instead of being blocked for 24 hours, I couldn’t purchase the damn thing for 10 days. Oh the pain I was put through! Have you been affected by this so called ‘bug’ preventing you from purchasing anything from the PS Store?? How long was it before you were able to buy that really important game? Is there a ‘proper’ fix for this problem or do you simply wait out the 24 hours and keep on trying?

PlayStation Store Bug?
The PS3 in the UK is about to get a whole lot better. This coming November the PS3 is getting Lovefilm, Europe’s largest rental service. From the looks of it, it looks like Netflix/Gamefly combined. You can rent games for the PS3/PSP, or movies whether they be Blu-ray or DVD by mail. If that’s to slow for you, then you can stream a movie using your computer. But this November they are changing it all, you will now be able to stream thousand of movies using your PS3. Check out the video for yourself. Source: [ Engadget ]

This is one of the best advertisements for a game I think i’ve ever seen. It’s also in my opinion one of the best games of all time. Be warned though that this video contains a lot of “bleeped” profanity.

I tested out WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe and it converts videos a lot faster than I thought. First video I converted was a 720P .mkv Naruto anime with subtitles. Quality was great and it completed a 23 minute anime conversion in 9 minutes, so not shabby at all. Plus it keep the subtitles intact. On the PS3 Preset you can select 720P or 1080P or you can just select a .MP4 file (720×480 or 720×576). It has a lot of built in presets which is nice for example: Sony Device: PSP Video (*.mp4), PS3 Video (*.avi, *.mpeg, *.mp4, *.wmv), PS3 HD Video (*.avi, *.mpeg, *.mp4, *.wmv) General Video: AVI, DivX, XviD, MP4, FLV, AVC, MPEG, DVD, WMV, MOV, Youtube DVD: DVD Format VOB (*.vob), DVD Folder High Definition Video: HD AVI Video (*.avi), HDAVC Video (*.mp4), MPEG4 HD Video (*.mp4), MPEG-2 TS HD Video (*.ts), WMV HD Video (*.wmv), Quick Time HD Video (*.mov), Youtube HD Video (*.mp4) Apple Device: iPad (iPad Wi-Fi, iPad Wi-Fi+3G, iPad 16GB, iPad 32GB, iPad 64GB), iPod (iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod nano), iPhone (iPhone 3G S), Apple TV, Apple TV HD Microsoft Device: Xbox, Xbox 360, Zune, Zune HD Portable Device: General mobile phone, PDA, BlackBerry, Creative Zen I was given 20 copies of WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe to giveaway on PS3Blog.net! Game Life has a preview of Parasite Eve 3 for the PSP. I don’t own Sony’s portable because I’m wishing they’ll eventually allow us to play PSP games on our PS3 (since we can already do so with minis) but I really like the Parasite Eve series and there IS hope of at least getting a PSN port of the game in the future.

For the tech savvy audience, the answer is clear: hardware, hardware, hardware. Compare Apple’s 8GB iPod Touch for $230 to Sony’s PSP Go for $250: the former outclasses the latter in so many ways that the PSP Go is basically a joke at this point. Sony is sticking to the old console compatability model where they make one hardware spec and cling to it for 5-10 years for forward compatability’s sake (Sony has improved hardware since the original PSP, but negligibly so compared to the smartphone world). What’s really ironic is that during the launch of the PSP and the PS3, most of the online community was ridiculing Sony for being too focused on fancy hardware and non-gaming applications instead of focusing on games and affordability, yet people actually wanted more dazzling hardware and non-gaming applications rather than sophisticated games and budget pricing. In Sony’s defense, the PSP definitely has better studio talent making games for it, and the main PSP-3000 model is definitely cheaper than a new generation iPod touch. On the flip side, I can hear a lot people pointing to the Nintendo DS. If PSP’s problem is old, boring devices, why is the even more underpowered DS doing so well? Simple. Because the main market of the DS, in the US at least, is mostly parents shopping for toddlers and non-technically savvy kids. That crowd doesn’t want to deal with online services, they want something that’s cheap, durable, and has simple brand-recognizable titles that can pacify a hyper-active kid on long car trips and the like. There are credible rumors of an Android/PSP partnership: if they can combine new bleeding edge devices and hardware with Sony’s top game studio efforts, that will be a winner. But if it is simply a compatability layer for existing PSP titles written for legacy hardware, it will be much less interesting.

Can’t wait for the MOVE to come out? Need as much info or footage of the MOVE as possible? Well here is something that hopefully carries you over. Jeff Rubenstein and Sid Shuman are here to save the day. A video was just posted of the MOVE unboxing by the both of them with a little information on what you can expect to come with it and the price points. This isn’t really anything new but it’s just nice to see them ramp up the coverage as we count down to the 17th or 19th depending on where you live. On a side note, anyone else like what SONY has done with their video rep introduction? Source [ Official PS3 Blog ]
