SkyDrift is your typical power up arcade racing game, but with planes. Don’t be fooled, this is in no way a bad thing, the game is really good at what it does and, while it may not be the best, it certainly is worth your time. It offers great content for a PSN title, with a decent single player campaign and robust multiplayer options. The game is fairly simple, but you should always start by playing the tutorial, which will teach you the concepts and controls of the game, I mention this because it does a really good job at it and helps you to get familiar with everything fast and also gives you good tips about the best way to handle the races. As soon as you’re done with that, you can keep going and play though the campaign. The game has 33 single player races in total, separated in 6 main chapters and one Final Challenge which is, by far, the most awesome race. Each chapter get’s increasingly difficult and even on easier difficulties there’s no sure victory. It should take you anywhere between 3 – 5 hours to clear everything once, depending on your skills and it could easily take you another 5 if you decide to beat all levels on hard (which awards you three stars, easy gets you one). Single player is pretty important, because it helps you unlock most planes and skins (for a total of eight planes with four different skins each) as well as a bunch of badges and medals. These are awarded to you for achieving different feats while playing and are an interesting measure of your progress and deeds. All badges have three different levels (bronze, silver and gold) which are of course more difficult to get. Medals are one of a kind, but not as simple to get. All of them have nice illustrations and feel rewarding when you get them. For all the trophy hunters out there, worry not, there are also 12 trophies for you to get. All this should make you sink in some good hours into the game. Environments are incredibly detailed and level design is very interesting. On occasion you might feel like the bright animations of the power ups, combined with the high saturation of colors get a little distracting and could potentially lead you to error, but that only happened a couple times. Since you’re not obligated to follow any given course (sort of), it’s important that the tracks are well made and this game gives you some of the most creative levels out there. It’s a shame that only 6 different tracks are available right now (each with a reverse option, that will keep you on edge), but honestly, this is actually good, because it makes it easier to memorize all the nooks and crannies and you will need it, if you want to come out victorious. On top of that there are 3 different racing modes: Power Race: your run of the mill power up fueled race Speed Race: no power ups here, instead you get speed rings which will give you a temporary boost (fun fact, if you pass multiple rings fast enough you’ll break the sound barrier) Survivor: by far the most fun race type there’s. It’s like a power race, but instead of running laps, every minute or so the last plane gets eliminated until there’s only one left All the races are great entertainment, and the struggle to get the 1st position made me jump and scream (with excitement) many times. Power ups are very straight forward, you’ve got shields, missiles, machine guns, shock waves, repair kits and mines, one thing that was a bit disappointing is you can’t fire backwards and sometimes it’s hard to fend yourself from the enemies behind, specially because mines take a while to show up. You also have a boost that will refill as you complete stunts (like flying close to the ground, or passing through small gaps) you can also transform collected power ups into boosts. Each plane has a different set of skills (speed, acceleration, boost power, armor and maneuverability) and even though they get better as you unlock new planes, none are useless and it can be very strategic to choose one over the other depending on your skills, race type and course. Planes look a bit more cartoony than environments, but they’re cool to look at. Besides all the single-player races, you can also race online with up to 7 other players. You can obviously choose which level and race type you want to play, but it’s a shame there isn’t a “Final Challenge” option. Another downside is no local co-op, that was very disappointing because power up racing is just the kind of game me and my girlfriend really enjoy playing together. Another sad thing is that I could only find one room once and it crashed so I never got to experience the game online, however I don’t know if this is related to the region I play or not. I’ll take the word of others and say the game could be even better online, because as good as the AI is, real racers are a lot more unpredictable. SkyDrift is a game with few downsides and while it may not be best of anything it does, it certainly could be the runner up on all the categories, which makes it a excellent game. Good amount of content, with tight controls and awesome gameplay, this is what SkyDrift is all about. Unrestricted entertainment for short or long sessions of gaming, you decide. [Review] SkyDrift
Hamilton’s Great Adventure is a co-op puzzle adventure of epic grandeur and magnificence. Take part in an amazing journey, guiding the splendiferous adventurer Ernest Hamilton and his brilliant bird Sasha as they co-operate to crack crafty conundrums and challenges! Progress through four unique and visually stunning environments. Delve into gameplay featuring both action puzzling and traditional problem solving. Immerse yourself into a fantastical storyline filled with extravagant escapades and memorable characters. We’ve got a great cast in this game which I’ll gladly introduce to you: ERNEST HAMILTON Ernest Hamilton is a retired adventurer, having lived a life filled to the brim with daring escapades and astonishing exploits. Although not famous in the public eye, his status among the initiated is nothing short of legendary. Nowadays, Ernest Hamilton is a widower and lives a quiet solitary life, enjoying frequent visits from his beloved granddaughter Amy. SASHA Sasha is a remarkably intelligent bird of a previously unknown species. Professor van Winkle found her while exploring ruins of a lost continent colony on a pacific Island, andbrought her back to Boston. Back in the States, Sasha immediately became very fond of Ernest Hamilton, the Professors companion and protege. Considering Sasha’s intelligence and the amazing chemistry between them, the Professor imagined Sasha would be a valuable asset on Hamilton’s future adventures. AMY A bright and inquisitive young girl, Amy likes hiking, botany, track and field (especially the long jump) and videogames. She’s a bit of a loner, but loves hanging out with her granddad.Tonight is a special night. Her grandfather, Ernest Hamilton, has promised to tell her amazing tales from his adventurous youth. Amy is so psyched! PROFESSOR A man of many talents, Professor Philemon van Winkle is an accomplished archeologist, anthropologist, engineer and inventor. Although sometimes appearing a bit disorganized, his undeniably sharp intellect and good heart are his key characteristics. He is a lifelong friend and mentor of Ernest Hamilton whom he has traveled the world with, researching the legends of the lost continent. CECIL TREMAINE Cecil Tremaine, a purveyor of everything and stranger to nothing, is a self made man. A keen business sense combined with streetwise chutzpah has taken him from the squalor of the streets to the boardrooms and lounges of the rich and famous. Recognizing the potential of The Professor and Hamilton’s work, he has taken an special interest in their recent endeavors. In this game you move around with the left analog stick or the D-pad, use triangle to change the currently equipped gadget (more on this later), use circle to activate said gadget, use X to open the door to exit the level and use Square to change control over to Sasha. While controlling Sasha, the left analog stick or the D-pad moves her around while the right analog stick adjust her altitude in order to move around obstacles or reach purple mystic dust or switches that are too high/low. While controlling Sasha you can teleport near Hamilton by hitting Triangle, issue a taunt by pressing circle, pull a lever or open a chest by pressing X or changing back control over to Hamilton by pressing Square again. While controlling either character you can use the L1 and R1 buttons to rotate the camera or L2 and R2 to zoom in and out of the level. Simple enough, right? Ok, now we’re good to go! Your objective is to grab the gold key in the level and reach the exit tile to continue. While that may seem easy enough the fact that more and more enemies, traps and new types of tiles are introduced as you progress further and further makes this a very interesting game that keeps things fresh start to finish. As an added objective you can go for a high score on the level AND thus obtaining a bronze, silver or gold medal depending on how much treasure you’ve obtained. Which is why you’ve got a Treasure Meter to help you maximize your score and do better at planing a perfect route on each level . It has a timer that shows the elapsed level time, a treasure bar that fills up as you collect treasure (silver and gold coins as well as sapphires) and a treasure per minute counter that counts down from the highest score possible all the way to zero in case you take a LOT of time to complete the level. Just as an FYI: collecting treasure is not set as a requirement to complete he level so you can either focus only on the main levels or go for all the treasure to unlock extra levels. A good adventurer must always consider all it’s options… which is why you must remember to always do a “fly around” with Sasha at the start of a the level (without moving Hamilton AT ALL) to see what needs to be done, collect some purple mystic dust to power up your items and activate any switches that might open up doors, close traps or help you out so you can speed things up and not have to blindly feel your way around a level “on the go”. Also, be sure to move the camera around while using Sasha to look around and behind walls, monuments, enemies or jumping piranhas for any treasure cleverly hidden by developers to prevent those in a hurry to get their gold medal on the first go. Getting as much treasure as possible will make it easier for you to unlock the extra levels and work towards the Hoarder trophy (collect 250,000 in treasures). Since there’s 21 bronze trophies in the game (yep, only bronze here so you’re sure to hear the “Ding” sound every couple of levels) fellow trophy hunters have got a lot of work to do! There’s a lot of different tile types you must you must get to know to make some progress in the game and thankfully they’re all introduced in game by hitting X on the question marks that are present on the level where a new element is introduced to the mix. Just to give you an idea of things, here’s a small list of some of them: Starting Tile: You’ve got to start somewhere and this is the spot. Excelsior! Standard Tile: Safe and sound. The standard tile is a good choice for catching your breath and planning your moves. Collapsing Tile: This tile will collapse as soon as anyone has traversed it. It doesn’t break when you step on it. It breaks when you step off it. Switch: Switches are activated by being stepped on by something heavy. They come with marker symbols for easy reference so you know what switch activates/deactivates what. To keep things interesting the last level of each chapter presents a challenge in which there is no gold key to obtain. Then WHAT do you need to do to get to the next chapter? Instead of your usual goal you must now find 4 silver keys to get to the guardian at the end of the road. Beating the challenge awards you with a special artifact (3 in total) to help you on your adventure. THIS is when all the purple mystic dust you’ve been collecting can be put to a good use! By now you’ve noticed the mystic dust counter at the top of the screen which keeps count of how much you’ve collected so keep one eye on it since if you run out of dust then you can’t use any of the gadgets, and without the gadgets you won’t be able to complete the game. Luckily there’s ALWAYS some mystic dust on each level and grabbing that with Sasha will allow you to finish the level itself but you better not risk being on such a tight budget. Grab all the dust and run! Hamilton’s Great Adventure is a very fun game that is now available on the Playstation Network for all old school “move one tile at a time” (similar to The Adventures of Lolo, for example) puzzle game fans. This is a graphically good looking game that crams in a lot of effects into a small package and for that we are also thankful. The main game is about 7-9 hours long and the extra levels add a lot of content (as well as longer and more complex levels) that add an extra 2-3 hours to the game. This all depends on your skills and a bit of luck (as is almost always the case with puzzle games) so your mileage may vary. Review Pros Cons Puzzles and adventures… what a concept! Hamilton’s Great Adventure Review
After such a long journey that has taken us from here to there and everywhere in between … how will it all end? Doc went missing and was stuck in the past where he “allegedly” burned down a speakeasy, we changed things just a bit and all of a sudden the Tannen Family owns Hill Valley in the present, changed the present AGAIN by messing with the past and making it more future than present and even tried to cure a severe case of puppy love between a poodle and a vicious pitbull. Did it all work? The Hill Valley Science and Technology Exposition is the main setting available for this episode (not just any Expo…this IS the Expo of the Future!) and you’ll spend about 80% of your time going from stand to stand, marveling at all the technological wonders mere inches away from you. After all we’ve been though in this series the final episode feels a bit more streamline (which is good) and you won’t run into a real “scratch your head” problem until you’re in the second half of it and that is only if you’re going for a trophy that requires you to be very specific about the order in which you do things. Edna Strickland starts things off by accusing Marty of being an agitator, a spy, a communist and so on after she had a very interesting conversation with Mr. Carl Sagan (Future Doc this time around and not our Doc Doc as was the case back in Episode 1) the night before the Expo was set to begin. Wonder what they could have talked about and how we can find out about it so we can fix any problems they might create? You thought Edna was a crazy girl? Wait until you play THIS Episode! She’s baaaaaaaaaad news, all kinds of bonkers and a psycho. Some people can eventually change and grow up after a troubling experience but Edna just puts more gasoline into the fire and watches as the flames reach the sky! It’s no wonder how she ended up alone in the original timeline since just 5 minutes can show you how high maintenance she is and how many screws are missing from that loosely bolted in head of hers. Your main objective during the last episode is making sure that Young Emmet gets a chance to participate in the Hill Valley Science and Technology Exposition even if Edna and Future Doc are trying to end his scientific career before it gets a chance to get of the ground… literally. Emmet goes missing just as the Expo gets started and we all know that if he doesn’t get a chance to participate as a young inventor then he’ll never grow up to be an adult inventor. No inventor means no Doc. No Doc means no DeLorean time machine. No DeLorean time machine means no time travel. No time travel means… it’s time for Marty to start disappearing and cease to exist! There are several clever puzzles to solve this time around and I think that the trophies make more sense by the time we’ve hit episode 5 than they did all the way back on episode 1. Maybe it has more to do with being used to the UI and the controls than it has to do with the way the finale is presented to us? Too many variables! Michael J. Fox is part of the game this time around and provides the voice for some of the cast. You’ll know who when you run into them and if you’re a fan of the movies (which you should be) it will definitely bring a smile to your face. It’s always nice to see the original cast be part of the game based on the movie based on awesome source material.. especially when that game is actually fun and not a quick cash-in developed in 3 months with a colorful case cover! Back to the Future: The Game has been a great experience for the last couple of months that gives us several “what if” scenarios as to what could have happened had a fourth movie been developed. Episode 5 allows the series to go out with a bang and leaves the door open for a Season 2 if you guys go out and buy a season pass RIGHT NOW. Your $19.99 purchase will deliver to you 12-20 hours of fun and nostalgia all wrapped up in a digital bow that sparkles when you smile. Now let’s start preparing for Jurassic Park and Walking Dead… Review Pros Cons Nice surprise at the end for fans of the movies so stay until the credits start! Good closure to the series It’s over! Back to the Future Episode 5 Review
The number of video games featuring undead enemies is becoming as common place as TV shows and movies starring vampires. Eradicating zombies became popular with Capcom’s Resident Evil games, but as that series moves away from the traditional brain dead opponents in favor for the “infected”; it’s been up to other titles to share their take on the zombie apocalypse. Dead Rising, Dead Island, Dead Nation, Yakuza of The End, and now, Lollipop Chainsaw, all put gamers in the hands of protagonists more than capable of defeating zombies with their eyes closed. Sadly, just like Resident Evil, all of those games lack the one element I’ve been looking for in a zombie oriented action game, and that’s the scare factor . Fortunately, Telltale Games’ upcoming episodic game, based on Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel “The Walking Dead”, seems to fit the bill in that department and more. Though little is known about the The Walking Dead game right now, according to previews, gamers will play the role of average citizens faced with the horrible circumstances of a world crippled by the zombie outbreak. The human element the The Walking Dead will offer separates it from the crowded pack of zombie games, and that’s what appeals to me. As far as playable characters go, in the first episode of The Walking Dead, gamers won’t be in control of the usual individuals armed to the teeth with enough weaponry to level a small city. Instead, we can expect to play the part of a criminal and a young girl as they try to find other survivors and seek shelter from the apocalypse. One of the features in the The Walking Dead won’t be about simply choosing which firearm will be best to use against your opponents. Rather, players will be faced with making life or death conscious choices. Choices in which one will have to decide who, amongst said friends, will live and who is going to become zombie food. The fact that I’m a big fan of the comic and the TV series is another reason why I’m looking forward to The Walking Dead. However, if you’re looking for a new approach to a played out video game setting, then knowledge of the series the game is based on isn’t required, but it helps. So far, compared to other zombie titles releasing this year and beyond, The Walking Dead is shaping up to be the kind of horror game I’ve been waiting a very long time for.

Why The Walking Dead Is My Most Anticipated Zombie Game
The world needs saving… again. But this time, it needs protection from an alien invasion right in the middle of a zombie outbreak, in a fantasy land somewhere in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, with World War II also involved somehow! And there’s just one hero who can save us all. Unfortunately, he has something better to do, so it’s all up to you now! Become one tough action hero, choose your favorite weapon and get ready for a thrill ride bursting with action – Race through all the levels. Kill everything and anything. * 5 worlds you have definitely seen before in other games! * Story mode, challenges, free run mode and over 30 awards to unlock! * Great graphics and a pumping soundtrack. * Tongue-in-cheek story and humor. We’ve already talked about this game before and we even provided you with the announcement trailer for it so be sure to check that out and come back to the review. Glad to see you value your life and are back with us now. Gaming cliches seem to be the thing that will finally end civilization as we know it: “An alien invasion right in the middle of a zombie outbreak in a fantasy kingdom, somewhere in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, with World War II also involved somehow”. That’s how the bad, bad boss man wants to kill all the gamers in the world and it’s why we must stop him at all cost! The main menu has several game modes available for you which are “detailed” below: Story Mode (with Story): This tale is told as it it was established in the prophecy oh so many years ago – by non-animated scenes where several lines of dialogue are exchanged between those involved in the game’s story. Watch them interact in five different environments and collect all of the gaming cliches placed here and there and there and here and everywhere! Free Run (without Story): Here is where all the challenges come into play. Once you’ve completed the game what is left to do? You can challenge your skills with the Challenges that challenge you to challenge-ly challenge specific situations placed before you. Challenge. When trying to complete them you should always select the gold requirement as it does stack and you’ll get recognized for the other two as well. Saves you time in the end! Hall of Fame: This space right here is sorta like the trophies we’ve gotten used to from PS3 releases. There’s even one extra special one for getting all the others, just like a platinum! You’re running non-stop and can’t stop at all (hence why I just said you’re running non-stop) and you’ve got only two commands to use: pressing any direction on the D-Pad or the L button makes you jump. The longer you hold it the longer you jump. On the other hand, Square, Triangle, Circle, X or R buttons make you shoot (yes, any one of them). Two buttons makes this sound like a very simple game and while that is somewhat true there is more to the game than running and jumping and shooting. Well, not much really… but that is great news! To bring some stategy to the table (to go along with the ham and the salad), you’ve got several pickups at your disposal: Weapon power ups (being hit by and enemy or hitting an obstacle will reset things back to your main single firing pistol): Machine Gun = Better than your regular gun but that’s about all that can be said. Rocket Launcher = Too slow to be of any real use. Does pack a punch and can kill a group of enemies with one shot but that’s a rare scenario. Shotgun = Avoid at all cost! Too slow to shoot, to small a burst. Laser = Shoot one laser that can kill all enemies in it’s path, even those that are behind obstacles! Flamethrower = NEVER LET GO OF THIS WEAPON! Constant shooting over a long and wide area that can obliterate any enemy on it’s path. Do look out for friendly units as once you let go of any of the “shoot” buttons it still takes a second for the fire to go away. BFG = Rare weapon that destroy everything on screen. Not as great as it sounds as it takes a while before you can shoot again. Other non-weapon pickups are as follows: Health pick ups Your Hit Points are represented by big red hearts on the upper right corner of the screen so getting this will give you back one of those if you’ve lost it for some reason. Score pickups: The higher your multiplier, the higher the number of points awarded for it so you better keep that chain going. Green and Red Arrow pickups: First one increases your overall speed and the second one slows you down. Sometimes they’re placed in spots where you NEED them to make a jump and sometimes they’re there just to throw you off and make you wonder if they will make you not be fast enough/be running way fast as to make the next perfectly timed jump. Jet Pack pick up: Hold any jump button to fly away into the velvet sky. Works only for a limited time so don’t think you can hover all you want. If you’re hit this will be instantly canceled. Once the tutorial is over you’re given specific goals for each level that must be met or else you won’t be able to ever get to the finish line! First objective? Kill 30 enemies. Another objective could be to get X number of jump kills, to complete a level without killing enemies, killing ONLY marked enemies or just as simple as reaching the goal at the end of the never ending road. If you’re Epic enough as to Kill enemies one after the other (what you youngsters call “in a row”) without being hit you’ll start up a tab and marvel at the sight of a combo chain. You can even jump on enemies to get a jump kill to go along with your chain and after every 5th enemy you kill like this you’ll get back one of your hearts (should you need it) which is a nice bonus. The bigger the chain the higher your score multiplier which makes it easier to reach specific level goals or to get a high score in the free run mode. Each environment features obstacles, enemies, falling pieces of ground and friendly characters you MUST NOT DAMAGE or else you loose your score multiplier and your kill chain. Not all obstacles are 100% bad for you as you can walk on top of some if you time your jump right and you actually HAVE to do so during some parts of a level as it is what the developer wanted from you. Will you humor them? And just to be clear… as much fun as it would seem, DO NOT SHOOT THE COW! Checkpoints are available on longer levels which saves your chain, score multiplier and weapon in case you die and since you die a LOT in this game it’s great that once you restart at said checkpoint all is well as you’ll be here and I’ll be there, by your side. Checkpoints are something to be grateful of when going for the awards (un-trophies!) that the game keeps track of as making a mistake or dying gives you an instantaneous second chance. One Epic Game is a fun and inexpensive experience you will greatly enjoy on your console or your portable of choice (unless that choice is the Wii, the 360 or a member of the DS family) for a small investment that is easy, midget horse and simple to justify. Better to play this on the go as you can just put the PSP into sleep mode and carry on wherever, whenever for a minute or two… or maybe more? Minutes are hard to keep track of! Review Pros Cons Non-stop action… literally! Enough fun for your buck What, no dancing game mechanics in all this cliches? Recap Been busy again, but I have been around doing stuff for the Community. With that said, this was one of the busiest periods for us as far as giveaways goes, as you will see in the Community News tab. Currently, we have two giveaways happening with another one starting tomorrow. You can quickly access them by clicking on contest banners between post and at the top of articles. We’ve had a number of reviews for you to check out as well, with a few of them happening in conjunction with a giveaway. Thanks goes out to all those PR people for providing us with content! It is much appreciated! I guess Oly gets some credit, too, but we all know people will only associate with Oly because it gets them closer to me . I kid. With that said, EdEN and Cheeto need to settle down with the posting. Especially EdEN and his tyrannical posts about how a 3DS price drop is throwing the gauntlet against the Vita, and how it’s a better system than the Vita, blah blah blah. I don’t know how he got a staff position. Heck, he still hasn’t changed his name to his first name to continue on with site tradition . At least Eddie has been putting him in his place. Too bad EdEN doesn’t stay there for even 5 minutes before he starts again. Anyway, be sure to check out the rest! Quite a few articles to go through in case you missed anything! Community News & Game Nights It’s been a really busy past three weeks. One of the biggest things is definitely the giveaways, which you can read about in the section below. As far as Community news itself goes, Tosh has unveiled the new and improved giveaway/lottery system. It not only makes it easier for us to track entries, but also makes it easier for you to enter the contest as well. Yesterday, Tosh also gave me more permissions for running the forums, so I took the liberty of beginning the process of improving the forums . For the most part, the forums are now categorized satisfactorily, but we’re still in the process of moving old topics to their new locations. And, as always, we had our BlogCasts. Now available are Episode 11 , Episode 12 , and Episode 13 . Enjoy! Oh, and I almost forgot, EdEN has joined our team . Congratulations! Alright, giveaways! First of all, we had a winner for the Tekken blu-ray. The day before the winner of that was announced, we started a giveaway for PSN imports for Yakiniku Bugyou and Rapid Angel, where, later, everyone who entered had won. In fact, you can ask Oly if there are any extra codes left since the number of entries was less than the number of available codes… Anyway, Eddie did a short giveaway for a Resistance 3 beta code, here you can see who won here . We still had a couple other PSN giveaways, including Fast Draw Showdown and LIMBO . Winners can be seen here and here respectively. Of course, it didn’t end there. Currently, we have 2 more giveaways going on, including the PSN title Dead Block and a piece of hardware that makes a wired connection through your house’s electrical circuit, the HP200AV . We’re still not done yet, though. In fact, we had to make a couple more “lottery” accounts to allow for more giveaways, with the third account being used for a giveaway you will see go live tomorrow , so stick around! There is a lot of free stuff you can win! Also, Tosh’s E3 swag giveaway has ended, but items will be shipped soon! Almost half of the people who voted said that a deep, engaging story is most important for future titles, where, despite being 10 votes behind, innovative gameplay took second. Sequels and prequels got a few votes, but tried and true formulas and controversial subject matter both struck out with one vote. New Poll This new poll idea comes from mowmow, who will receive 200 points for the idea. With that said, the poll asks what interests you most in a collector’s edition of a game. I believe we’ve had one of these in the past, but I suppose it can’t hurt to run a new one. – What do you look for in Collector’s/Limited Editions? Winners of Fast Draw Showdown
How can we describe this game in a single sentence? Tower Defense with a 3rd Person camera that has you fight against a horde of zombies. I LOVE Tower Defense games, have a keen understanding of why zombies make any game better and was curious to see if a deep fried and chocolate covered peanut butter and jelly sandwich would be as awesome as it sounds. Turns out it IS! PR activation code enabled! Are you good enough to survive a Zombie Armageddon? Don’t panic! Use your brain first and if necessary your sledgehammer. Dead Block is a 3rd person zombie themed arcade game with a unique mix of action, humor and strategy. Set in the US during the idyllic 1950s, Dead Block takes players to a simpler time when a gallon of gas cost a few pennies, the “golden age” of cinema was in full swing, and that new (and apparently insanely evil) craze called rock n’ roll swept the nation—and caused an apocalyptic musical plague to turn the deceased into the walking dead! As one of three survivors of the shuffling zombie onslaught – Boy Scout Mike Bacon, construction worker Jack Foster, and no-nonsense meter maid Foxy Jones, each with their own unique “Smart Bomb” attack – players will fortify their area by boarding up windows and setting a variety of unique unlockable traps, collect items and power-ups, take on zombies one-on-many with a variety of upgradeable weapons, and even rock them to shreds with awesome guitar power! * A humoristic gameplay mix of killing zombies and tactical defense. * Kill zombies in unusual and entertaining ways: install unique traps, employ devious tactics and fight the intruders with smart bombs and melee weapons. * Tactical defense gameplay: defend from zombies by building blockades, gathering resources and switching between all 3 characters. There’s two types of levels available and while the core mechanics are the same, the final goal of each one s a tad different: * In one you must fin all 3 parts of the guitar equipment needed to rock out at the end of the level so you can put all zombies to twist and shout so you can complete the level. The parts are found by searching items and when one is found a roulette starts and you have to hit the X button at the right time to stop it. Once you find all parts, how do you rock at the end of the stage? Why, on a sideways Guitar Hero style grid! * The other one ask you to kill X number of zombies so you can activate a new piece of equipment engineered to help against the zombie onslaugh: the Zomb-O-Matic 9000! These levels have A LOT of zombies attacking you at the same time so you better be good at managing all the traps (more on that below) you’ve set for them to perish and enter the eternal undead sleep of the dead but not quite dead! To build a blockade, you just walk to a window or door and press the X button which will in turn trigger a sequence where you can accelerate how fast it is built by pressing the X button again at the right time. Do keep in mind that you require wood to build them (and you can see how much you have on the bottom left corner of the screen which is why you must constantly destroy all furniture around you yo gather up new pieces. This is done by constantly tapping the circle button until there’s nothing standing before you… or is there? Sometimes you can find items inside destroyed cabinets which have to be searched by alternating between the L2 and R2 buttons to speed things up or use them to move around an onscreen hand to pick up a key or a coin between all the garbage around it. It is important that you remember that you can call your companions to your current location by holding L1 but you have to be cautious as to not use it when they’re surrounded by zombies as you risk them not attacking and being slaughtered. We have Easy, normal and hard difficulties to choose from and you can do level select to obtain all the medals from the levels (they’re bronze, silver and gold depending on the difficulty)… and you need all gold medals on all levels for the final trophy! Difficulty changes how hard zombies hit you, how fast you search items and how easy it is to build traps and barricades. For example, building a freeze trap with Jack means you’ve got to hold down the X button until the trap is completed BUT if you change the difficulty to hard you’re told to alternate between that and holding another button by itself as well before going BACK to holding X until the trap is complete. Might not seem like such a huge deal but when you’ve got 10 zombies behind you with 10 more trying to enter the room you’re currently standing in and have to decide which door to place the trap at as you don’t have time to do all that button pressing… things get hectic FAST! Traps require parts which are found by searching items and you can even repair them after some heavy use by the growing zombie population but this, again, requires you to have enough parts for said task. You’ve got three traps available for each character (the Wood Blockade is universal) and you can select which one to install by using the D-pad to make things faster. The coins you might find while searching items can be used for one of two things: to buy a full health recovery drink from vending machines or to power up a jukebox that will play the rock of the dead and make zombies dance, dance, dance until they can’t dance no more… and explode! Should you NOT have coins you don’t have to worry TOO much as your health will slowly (very slowly) regenerate if no zombies are hitting you for a while. What can you do if you’ve got no parts to build traps or if you’ve run out of wood and the next zombie wave has just started to make it’s way into the place? You COULD try melee combat (hit R1 and start the magic!) but this is the least efficient way to kill zombies. You may kill a single zombie by melee, but even small groups of zombies are a serious threat! But wait, there’s more! Should you be lucky enough to find a TV Antenna you can use that to make the TV in the level work again… mmm, what good is watching TV while the zombies eat my brain? Well, it turns out that Zombies LOVE TV! You’ll be able to keep about 5 zombies glued to the tube so it’s not like no more zombies will bother you ever again but it DOES help you out more than you can imagine. Another handy option is to leave a nice, juicy piece of steak on the heather so our zombies friends can enjoy it… until they’re electrocuted that is! Once you find a new trap or update your “Smart Bomb” attack (remember, your Smart Bomb will be available again until the bar fills up!) you’ll be able to use it right from the start of the next level… well, as long as you find enough trap parts as the newer traps require more and more of them but are completely worth it. Here’s a list of all traps available for each character (after a spoiler tag as to not ruin anyone’s experience): Traps make the world go round: WARNING. Zombies up ahead! Jack’s Traps: * Frost Trap: Freezes passing zombeis. Frozen Zombies thaw! Hit them before they do so and you’ll break them into a million pieces with just the one hit. Be sure to repair these often as they’ll save you more than once! *Helmet Trap: Helmet zombies smash furniture! If you’re just entering a room FULL of furniture just set one of these on the window and another on the door and see how they do your job. * Concrete Blockade: The immortal blockade! No zombie will ever break this so you should place it where it will help you the most. Cost a LOT of parts so don’t waste it! Wonder why they never do this in zombie movies… Mike’s Traps: *Cardboard Trap: Drops boxes on zombies. Boxed zombies get attacked by all other zombies AND hit back which makes them very helpful in crowded rooms. * Sunbed Trap: Amplified UV radiation ages zombies into weak old zombies. This one is GREAT when you start running into stronger zombies that can kill you in 5 seconds flat in the later levels while playing in hard mode. * Toilet Trap: Infects zombies who spread the disease and die slowly! Place one near a door when you see a lonely zombie walking your way while you’re being chased by a group of 10 and see how they all get this and wither into a pulp! Foxy’s Traps: * Rolling Pin Trap: Removes half of the remaining health of a zombie. Not as useful as her other traps but when it’s the only thing you got, you’ve got to use it! Microwave Trap: Electrocutes passing zombies… and makes them even deader! One shot kill ANY zombie with this very expensive trap! * Bomb Trap: Explodes when zombies break through. It doubles as a blockade which can help you stop zombies from entering a room you’ll explore while at the same time making them stand behind it just waiting for it to go….. BOOOOOOOOOOOM! Controlling all 3 characters at once can feel a but daunting at first but eventually you’ll be jumping back and forth between all of them. You have to consider what the main expertise of each one is so you can leave them in a room that can exploit said trait to it’s fullest. In case you haven’t figured it out, Jack is great at breaking down furniture, Mike excels at searching items and Roxy can destroy zombies FAST… but since you don’t want to leave her on a room filled with zombies all by herself you can put her in an item filled room as well since she does the searching right. There’s a special power-up you should be looking for all over the place since it really makes a huge difference in an instant. What does it look like? A Shining Light! Once you touch it you’ll run faster, repair traps in a heartbeat, search like there’s no tomorrow and break down furniture just by looking at it (ok, that last one is not true. You have to hit furniture two times instead of a whole lot more). And zombies? What zombies? When you grab the shining light you can kill them in 2 seconds which is great for the those moments when you forget to repair a blockade and the room has been filled with the undead. Now, for those trophy hunters out there, let’s talk again about medals. If you want the medals trophy you need to be playing in hard which really isn’t that hard in the first 3-4 levels. What do you get medals for? Breaking ALL furniture, searching ALL items, killing X amount of zombies and NOT DYING AT ALL. That last one is what takes the most effort (especially when managing all three characters) as going for all four medals at the same time will take a LOT of work and you’re better off shooting for the first tree and then redoing the level just for the ” Don’t die” medal since you don’t need to break everything and only have to meet the minimum requirement for the level. There’s also Multiplayer content for your entertainment which is local-only (yes, yes, you online-only fans are about to throw a hissy fit) and to me it makes it easier to actually coordinate with other players without any delay and work together as a proper team to stop the zombie apocalypse, one location at a time. Multiplayer is a nice extra but if you’re not into that then the single player campaign will be enough to justify your purchase. Review Pros Cons Tower Defense with zombies… in the 3rd Dimension!
