Lord of the Rings: War in the North Collector’s Edition and Pre-Order Bonuses Details

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Snowblind Studios have announced the details of the North American Collector’s Edition and pre-order incentive programs (and there’s a LOT of them) for *The Lord of the Rings: War in the North* videogame set for release this Fall. PR info must be set in stone to start our adventure: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North* is an intense Action RPG video game based on the renowned works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Through innovative online, interdependent co-op play for up to three players who form their own Fellowship, the game breaks new ground as the first The Lord of the Rings video game to embrace the gritty and brutal reality of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Exploring previously unseen lands, storylines and characters as well as those familiar from past feature films, gamers experience expansive co-op gameplay and upgradeable weapons, character customization and development, skills and special abilities. Gamers must play together or perish as they work to defeat Sauron’s forces in the North Now, let’s have a look at what the CE will look like for the PS3 AND what is included with your $129.99 purchase: The Collector’s Edition will include: * The War in the North game * Ranger of the North quiver case * War in the North Art Book * Inside Look: The Music of War in the North mini-documentary. This many! * GameStop: Visit the Citadel of the Stars and the Tower of Stone with the Human Theme Pack equipped with an exclusive human sword, armor and battle attire of the Human Ranger, and get access to the Osgiliath Challenge map. * Amazon.com: Get early access to part two of the War in the North Digital Comic written by Brian Wood, illustrated by Simon Coleby, and produced by DC Entertainment. The comic book reveals the back story leading up to The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. The artbook could be interesting and the soundtrack documentary is something else I would look forward to. The quiver could go either way but it IS something I would set up and display along all the other CE… collectibles I’ve bought over the years. Will you be setting aside $129.99+Tax for this version of War in the Nort?

Skyrim: An E3 Preview and Analysis

PS3Blog Writer Premier Hello Fellow PS3 Blog Users. Some of you may know the Elder Scrolls series is a first person roleplaying game that, so far, contains 4 games. Elder Scrolls: Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion. For all of us people who love the Elder Scrolls, we jumped with joy at the announcement of the 5th game, Skyrim, and all the new features it’s going to bring! During this year’s E3, Bethesda Softworks told us that Skyrim was going to be released 11/11/11. Weird date they picked, but they they showed us what the game would look like and how it played, and I was about to die from the way the new game has evolved from the previous titles of the series. I am in shock by the way they game graphics, attack system, and general movement animations have shot up since Oblivion. Oblivion Orc Skyrim Orc As you can see, the textures of the new skins look amazing. Mostly because they decided to use a new engine for the game. And it doesn’t only affect your character and the other NPC’s. It affects the whole game. Caves, animals, grass, plants; everything in the game has been improved just for this release. Plus, there are going to be 7 major regions of the game to explore, including snowy mountains, forests, tundras, and more! Next thing I wanted to talk about was the combat system. They completely overhauled the system. Now, instead of being stuck with using a one handed sword and shield, or just a sword, they have added dual wielding into this game. As well as being able to use dual swords, you can also perform dual spells for all those mage lovers out there. You can also combine those spells to make a more deadly spell. While on the topic of spells and fighting, they are also adding special looking spells called: “Shouts” Which use a dragon’s power to help you knock back foes, breath fire, and even change the weather for your favor. You’re probably wondering when I said dragons that I meant a dragon-looking creature, well my Friends, no I didn’t. This time around, you are going to have to fight with and against full, fire breathing beasts So you can help save the Skyrim World. And the best part is that the dragons are not scripted. They can come from anywhere at anytime. One more thing on the combat subject. They have added a new Execution System in the game. At certain points in a fight, you can preform a finishing move and Kill the enemy in a amazing display. A Dragon This game, so far, has sounded amazing. And you know it seems like it will be. But we will just have to wait until it comes out for Ps3, and other platforms, on the date of 11/11/11. It’s going to seem like forever. But the wait seems like it’s going to be worth it. I hope you enjoyed this post, and hope you enjoy the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim as much as I (hopefully) will. just don’t stop playing the others. And check out the E3 Gameplay Demo Right here: E3 Skyrim Demo

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Review

Earth Defense Force is a series that has been around for quite some time now. The earlier releases can be found in Europe on the PS2, followed by the Xbox 360 and, recently, the PSP. The series has never taken itself too seriously and to be honest, that is what makes the game so great. From hilarious commentary by your pilot to the outrageous jokes the commander gives for Intel while on the field via communications, the jokes never stop. If you’re looking for a lighthearted game with an insane amount of co-op and Multilayer, look no further than Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon. The Armors: You can choose from different Armor types, each with their own preferred weapon load-outs. The Jet Armor has a jet pack on the back and prefers Laser related weapons over the traditional bullet weapons. The ability to fly is a welcome advantage when the screen is literally filled with enemies. The Jet armor does have its drawbacks as it is the weakest of the set. A level 8 Jet armor is solid, but lacks the extra protection needed on the hardest setting. The trooper is your run-of-the-mill soldier armor. He has the advantage of mixing almost all weapon types and has a decent amount of protection early on. The trooper has a wide arsenal of Sniper rifles, which are lacking in the other classes. This is a good Armor for those new to the series. The tactician is my favorite class of them all, as he is able to deploy turrets, which is a blessing during an ant hole invasion. Nothing is better than dropping an automated turret down and surrounding it with mines while your team tries to destroy the objective. The armor is quite beefy, and once leveled is a force to be reckoned with. The last Armor is a walking tank if you will. The battle armor is made for pure destruction. The ability to have an electric shield out while shooting is a life saver. The Armor is slower, but who is going to run when you have so much defense. The same power that is used for your shield can be released in a massive explosion with the simple press of a button; during this time you must wait for a quick regeneration to occur to use your shield again. Weapons and experience: The 300+ weapons are just as over the top as the commentary and story. You have an epic assortment of rocket launchers and heat seeking grenade launchers at your disposal. Shooting a grenade in the air and having it split into multiple heat seeking grenades is just a blast, literally. When you get 6 players in survival mode and everybody is shooting a multi-shot off, it gets rather insane. Buildings crumble completely with a single grenade shot, adding to the over the top game play. While all of this is going on, you have an active reload system, similar to Gears of War. You have to time your weapon reload with a small bar and hit reload a second time when it is lined up. This is easy at first but when you have a devastating weapon that shoots multiple rockets, the mark is hair thin. Weapons are purchased, but they first must be found. Typically, a large robot or insect will drop a box which can be viewed after the chapter. The players I met online seem to know exactly when these drop and scatter like roaches to collect them. Luckily, the loot is picked up for all to enjoy, so if you don’t pick it up but another player does, it’s still in the rewards for your armor. You gain experience for your equipped armor, allowing you to use higher tiered weapons, as well as modify your armor for greater health and more slots for class-specific items. Playing on normal has a level cap of 5, where hard is 7 and Inferno is 8. The greater weapons will be found on the highest difficulty and, typically, in remix mode. Modes: The main portion of the game is co-op with 3 players. Once completed, you will unlock the option to play Remix mode, which changes the enemy types drastically for a fresh take on the game. You are allowed to choose any difficulty from the start, but believe me, you will want to start on normal and hit your armor max before trying a harder difficulty. Survival mode is just that. Six players try to last as long as possible against endless waves of increasingly harder enemy types. With some enemies being bigger than a New York sky rise, it gets rather epic quickly. Tanks and stationary turrets, which are found in the main story, play a big role here. I found it easier to yell at everybody to not use anything until later waves in order to have something to fall back to, and the strategy works. You will need to survive hundreds of waves if you want to platinum this bad boy. Luckily, the waves are added and do not need to be done in one sitting. Overall: This is the most fun I have had in a long time with multiplayer. The graphics for the armors are top notch, and the rest is what you would expect from a budget title. Typically, by the time you’re done with a chapter, there’s not one building left in sight. The AI is there constantly shouting out hilarious one liners and the EDF command is constantly making jokes while giving you orders. You cannot find a better package for $39.99. Expect to spend hundreds of hrs to fully level up each armor. Review Pros Cons Pure Multilayer madness Couch co-op Online Split Screen Remixed Campaign $39.99 Simple scenery textures Rating 85%

Skyrim Has Unlimited Dragons; Might Support Riding Them

Hey Elder Scrolls fans (and/or those looking forward to Skyrim), Todd Howard of Bethesda was interviewed about the game (with the interview being roughly translated to English here ), and when asked about the number of dragons being a set number, he responded with: No, there is an unlimited number of dragons. One of our designers actually put in a random event I encountered, where I ended up being chased by three dragons and I thought “who the hell did this?” I felt like Frodo in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and was really frightened. So I asked him to remove it. But no, dragons are generated automatically (in addition to that there are a number of specific encounters, of course). Further into the interview, the interviewee asked whether players could ride dragons or not, with Todd’s response being: Have we considered it? Yes. Do we allow it right now? No. But we can decide to support it at some point. Imagine how cool that would be for a minute. Although I am not much of an RPG fan, if they allowed you to actually ride dragons, I’d definitely check the game out. There are a ton of other details, including how the dragons do speak their own language, while a few of them can also be understood by your character, but they didn’t delve into details like that very much, but it’s still an interesting read for sure. Expect to see it in stores this November.

New Risen 2 Screens Have Just Been Released

These new screens were just released for the upcoming Pirate RPG, Risen 2: Dark Waters. Set several years after the end of Risen, raging titans have devastated the world and pushed humanity to the brink of existence. Subsequently, monstrous creatures have risen from the watery depths of the sea and their attacks have brought all seafaring to a grinding halt. The hero, now a member of the Inquisition, is sent out to find out how to stop the chaos caused by these creatures from the deep. His quest begins with rumors that the pirates who frequent the southern islands are the only ones who know a way to get rid of the creatures once and for all and end their reign of terror. With an all-new pirate-based theme, Risen 2: Dark Waters aims to combine the most loved classic RPG gameplay mechanics of the original Risen with a fresh theme and setting on a huge variety of themed island locales. A third-person role-playing game set in a dark and gritty universe, Risen 2: Dark Waters maintains the most immersive features of the original Risen, with multiple approaches to every challenge allowing players to shape the game world based on their own decisions. These choices will serve to unlock new paths, features and additional skills for the character. Together with a highly interactive environment and a full day/night-cycle affecting countless aspects of the game world, Risen 2 will be set in the most immersive RPG game world so far. Might & Magic: Clash Of Heroes Impressions

What is it: The core of this is a 1v1 block moving puzzle game, where the blocks are fantasy army units. The battle mechanic is wrapped in a 1980′s-era JRPG type exploration and dialog system. This is similar to Puzzle Quest in that it combines a block moving puzzle game with a RPG-type leveling mechanics and fantasy setting, however this game is much, much better. How good is it: Excellent. It is extremely addictive, and always has you wanting to play more. This game has much more depth and polish than what you would expect from any other studio. The 2D art is beautiful HD and excellent. Might and Magic: At first, it seemed like this game had zero connection to the Might & Magic series beyond the name (I’ve played a ton of M&M 3,4, and 5). But, this actually does have a spiritual gameplay type connection to the strategic RPG series Heroes of Might & Magic. BTW, HOMM 3 was amazing back in its time, but the sequels have been awful. Clash of Heroes finally delivers a similar addicting strategy RPG fun. Drawbacks: The loading. For what is such a technically simple 2D game, the loading times seem completely unreasonable. To Capybara: This title and Critter Crunch are amazing and really show what Capybara is capable of. Why such long platform exclusive times on such odd platform choices: Nintendo DS for CoH and iPhone for Critter Crunch? Obviously, I love PS3 and that’s my preference, but Android would be great as well. I’d love to play Capybara’s Sword & Sorcery, but I’m not going to get an iOS device to do so.
