A great news for all hack and slash lovers and more so to those who specially appreciate Diablo (and perhaps don’t own a super awesome gaming rig). Blizzard is hiring a “Senior Software Engineer” to be working exclusively for Diablo III development on the PS3. Amongst the qualifications, at least one AAA PS3 title is required. Job responsibilities include: Design, implement, and maintain game systems to work on the PlayStation 3. Identify previously unknown issues and offer solutions. Be responsible for various systems including the game engine, audio, physics, tools pipeline, etc. Work closely with game design to ensure a great player experience. I’m particularly excited about this, as I don’t have an awesome gaming PC and I also think this would work great on consoles.

The Roxio Game Capture device enables simple recording of your console gameplay, easy to use editing, and quick posting to web sites such as Facebook or Youtube. This USB hardware capture device includes component video and stereo audio inputs and outputs, and ships with a component video, a component audio, and USB cables. When using it with your PS3, you will need to obtain a seperate PS3 component AV cable as well. I believe the PS2 component cable is compatible with the PS3, however, if you don’t have one, they sell for about $15 to $20. Lack of HDMI support was a big dissapointment for me, but was said to be left out to save on the pricing of the device. The device allows you to play in full HD (1080i), on your TV, while capturing game play in 480p to your PC. Setup is really easy, as it is basically just a “plug and play” device. Component AV cable from the PS3 to the Roxio Game Cap, then another from the Game Cap to the TV, and finally a USB cable from the device to your PC. The video below describes it in further detail, and also includes how to change the settings on your PS3 to allow component AV output, as well as how to begin capturing video. If you watched the video, you also saw how easy it is to start capturing on your PC. The software packaged with the Roxio Game Cap includes two parts. The capture software, and VideoWave, the editing software. The Software’s Minimum System Requirements are here: •Microsoft Windows® 7, Vista™ SP2, XP (SP3 for 32 bit & SP2 for 64 bit), Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor 1.8 GHz or AMD Athlon x2 64 2.0 GHz, 2GB RAM •DirectX® 9.0c compatible graphics card or higher, sound card •2GB free hard drive space for installation. 10+ GB free recommended for video recording. •Windows Media Player 11 or higher •Internet explorer 7 or 8 •Internet connection required for capture, registration, product updates and tutorials. Any Internet charges are the user’s responsibility •One available USB 2.0 port The video capture software although simple and basic, does have some settings and features that you will want to set. Video output can be set to AVI, WMV, DivX, or MP4, while still image screen shots, captured with a click of a button, can be saved as JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP or GIF file types. You are given the ability to change the file save location and name, as well as set recording time limit, or set it to record until you choose to stop it. The program also allows the availability to change the audio input to a mic, so that you can do a commentary or “step by step” tutorial as you play. Some things about the video including brightness, sharpness, contrast, hue, and saturation, can also be set. This is what you will be seeing on your PC. As you can see, there is also a preview screen, that, unlike some other capture devices, has no delay. In fact, I used this little screen to actually play for a bit while my wife was watching our TV. Unfortunately there was no full screen option for this preview screen. My only other issue with the capture is, as mentioned above, it can only capture in 480p, and not full HD video. It does however, do a good job of upscaling or at least outputting at 1280×720 and even 1920×1080. After recording your video, you can directly upload it to Facebook or Youtube, or you can begin video editing. VideoWave is a fairly “easy to use”, video editing program that is included with the Roxio Game Cap. If you’ve never used video editing software, there are quick tutorials that will get you up and running in no time. On the otherhand, if you have ever done any video editing before, you are sure breeze into VideoWave rather easily. VideoWave has a lot of editing effects included, such as text overlay templates, transitions such as wipes and fades, audio and narration tracking, and much more. There are two modes used for editing. “Storyline” mode, which is better suited for beginners, where you just drag and drop videos, audio, and effects in a specific order; and, the more complex “Timeline” where you insert video, audio, and effects along a timeline, allowing more options. This video will bring you through the basics of VideoWave, and give you a better understanding of how it works. Overall the Roxio Game Cap and the included software are very easy to set up and use. The only real issues I have with it, are that it will only record in 480p, and that it doesn’t have a HDMI pass through. Retailed at $99.99, it’s $100.00 cheaper than anything better. In fact, when compared to similar devices for the same price, the Roxio Game Cap comes with much better features. If you’re looking for an easy affordable way to start recording your game play, and you don’t need true HD capture, I highly recommend the Roxio Game Cap. …and if you’d like to get one for free… you are in luck!! We here at PS3blog.net are giving away a Roxio Game Cap right here! If you’d like to see the quality, there are two videos below that were captured and edited with the Roxio Game Cap.

Is it me, or is this a coincidence? The ongoing PlayStation Network outage has reached its 23rd day. With that comes the job openings at the Sony Headquarters in San Diego, Ca. Sony HQ is one of the buildings that sits in the area close to Sorrento Valley, 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego. Companies such as Qualcomm and Kodak rest in this valley. I, personally, have no job knowledge about the positions opening up for Sony, however, they do sound a little bit alarming and, at the same time, comforting. Positions such as Identity and Access Engineer, Data warehouse solutions architect, Server systems software architect, QA tester PlayStation Network, Software QA supervisor, and Network Operations Center manager have all emerged in the company’s job site. What does this all mean? Does it mean the positions are now open, or are they simply reinforcing their digital fortress with more man power? Sony has not been clear as of late on what they intend or are currently doing with this down time, so one has to assume that they are working nonstop in order to restore the network. Hopefully these positions are filled soon, and the company finds its way back up from below its misfortune. To see the rest of the positions, visit the official Sony Job site here.

Yesterday the hactivists group “Anonymous” began a DDOS attack on all things Sony for the “unforgivable treatment of Geohot” These attacks have taken down several Sony websites as well as PSN access. As if this cyber terrorism wasn’t bad enough within itself, they have officially blocked the capability of PSN members donating to the tsunami relief fund. It was just announced by VG247.com that Sony has managed to help raise 1.3 million dollars so far. I believe PSN is back up now but with promise of future, more malicious attacks, we can’t expect it to stay that way. We do know that they are planning “Dox” attacks which is to obtain and use personal information of the employees at Sony. One thing is for sure though…these groups have no interest in right or wrong, but to simply establish fame, fear and their own selfish idealism’s.
