Hactivists Group “Anonymous” Hacks PSN, Blocking Donations to Tsunami Victims

Yesterday the hactivists group “Anonymous” began a DDOS attack on all things Sony for the “unforgivable treatment of Geohot” These attacks have taken down several Sony websites as well as PSN access. As if this cyber terrorism wasn’t bad enough within itself, they have officially blocked the capability of PSN members donating to the tsunami relief fund. It was just announced by VG247.com that Sony has managed to help raise 1.3 million dollars so far. I believe PSN is back up now but with promise of future, more malicious attacks, we can’t expect it to stay that way. We do know that they are planning “Dox” attacks which is to obtain and use personal information of the employees at Sony. One thing is for sure though…these groups have no interest in right or wrong, but to simply establish fame, fear and their own selfish idealism’s.

Uncharted NGP/PSP2 Tech Demo Footage

With the reveal the other night, a demo was shown of the Uncharted game being developed for the handheld. Though we got to mainly see a few low-res videos and a few camera shots, we didn’t get to see a very detailed representation of the game in action. Luckily, Gamespot has the production video reveal available in 720P with the English translation dubbed into it. The demo seems to use most of the system’s control features quite well. I know what I gotta start saving up money for next… You can also see a screenshot of the game here . It’s amazing how much detail there is for being a handheld.

Duke Nukem Forever Dated and Rated

Trailer is definitely not for children Duke Nukem Forever, the game that has been in development for over 13 years, is definitely coming, and sooner than expected. Gearbox Software has revealed that the game will be released on May 3rd. Of course, it hasn’t gone gold, so it could change, but here’s hoping it doesn’t . The game has also been rated by both the ESRB and PEGI with M and 18 respectively.

Orb BR Software Coming to PS3

Seems like Orb Networks is about to drop a gem out of the sky for Blu-ray & PS3 owners. Earlier today at CES the company announced that they are going to be releasing a Blu-ray disc to consumers, turning their devices into one stop shops for all their media needs. Once you pop in the disc you’ll have access to Netflix , Hulu Plus , Comedy Central , Amazon VoD , YouTube , Hulu , ABC , CBS as well as several other networks only for $19.99 (internet connection required). Now I know that some of you might say “Great I just got rid of the Netflix disc and now I am going to be getting another disc?”. Even if that’s the case, its not like you can pass this up for 20 bucks. This is a lot of great content and if this allows your Blu-ray or PS3 to turn into a global source of goodness than I am all for it. This thing is even going to support HD output at 720p and 1080p resolution, and is aimed at a late February release. I don’t know about any of you but it looks like things just got a whole lot better for the PS3!!! Source [ Engadget ]

PS3 Private Keys Discovered (Homebrew/Piracy)

Note: DISCLAIMER: PS3Blog.net, in no way, supports the use of exploitative devices such as this and this post is purely informational. We do not condone piracy of any kind! Yesterday the group behind the Homebrew Channels on the Wii announced live with a slide presentation at 27c3, that they have discovered the private keys for the PS3. What does this mean? Custom firmware? Piracy? Homebrew? There is a large potential for good and bad with this. Obviously the bad starts with piracy. We all know it will happen but thats not the worst of it. With these keys you can also expect to see online multiplayer cheaters with aim bots and more, trophy hackers and possibly even viruses. The good that comes out of this will be emulators, linux, mkv support and things of this nature. In short, these keys allow software to be designed directly for the PS3 just as any dev would do it. No custom firmware will be required to run this software, no jailbreaking and no hacking. Simply install the firmware and the PS3 will treat it as signed software from Sony itself. The steps taken against Sony and the PS3 (the group is making it personal by saying Sony is a failure on multiple levels) have indeed put the system and software at risk. It is now the most open platform on the market today. Sony is very limited as to its responses as a firmware update will not correct this. The only things they can do is on the manufacturing level with new PS3′s that hit the shelves and they can whitelist all existing PS3 software but neither of these options are fullproof, both are expensive and time consuming. Its even possible that Sony will not be able to detect this on their end. Only time will tell how this affects the PS brand.
