PlayStation Move With Projection Mapping | Studio Output

The clip above was created with the help of the PlayStation Move. Here is how it’s done: Each clip was shot in one take, the visual effects created using a mixture of props, live actors camouflaged in Lycra and, crucially, the technique of projective mapping – projecting backgrounds plus animation onto the environment, in this case the walls, furniture and other surfaces in the room. To look realistic, the images being projected have to be distorted to suit the geometry of the “screen”, and the viewpoint must be stationary. But Studio Output wanted to capture the results using a roving camera. That was where the PlayStation Move played a key role. Studio Output attached it to their camera and used it to track its movements. The readings were then fed back to a system which adapted the projected image in real time, making the backgrounds dazzlingly convincing throughout each clip. Pretty amazing stuff I must say and they haven’t even pushed it to the limits yet. They envision that this could one day evolve into a augmented reality experience. This sounds like true next generation technology. What are your thoughts on this? Via Digital Arts Online

Motorstorm now has move support

Huge update to motorstorm not only adds move but steering wheel support! This is great as I have often stared at my GT wheel… petting it softly and telling it that someday it will play a Motorstorm title. The supported wheels are:Logitech G25, Logitech G27, Logitech Driving Force GT and Logitech Driving Force Pro. This is what the developer had to say about this addition: PlayStation Move controllers and certain PS3 steering wheels are now fully supported in MotorStorm Apocalypse (including customizable configurability options), so you can get even closer to the racing action with a more tactile and realistic control set-up. I’ve been lucky enough to experience the game using a Logitech G27 force feedback wheel, on a 3DTV with surround sound set-up, and I can honestly say it’s the most exhilarating gaming experience I’ve ever had. Pumping the accelerator and gripping the wheel as you drift your muscle car through a tight city corner at break neck speeds feels incredible, and when an apocalyptic earthquake aftershocks kick in and tears open the ground beneath your wheels – while you’re trying to avoid gangs of crazy looters and rivals throwing their weight around in monster trucks – it ups the ante even more. If you can, you absolutely must experience MotorStorm Apocalypse like this. Words just don’t do it justice. The game also has been given a create your own race mode of sorts. This new editor allows one to tweak numerous settings like no attack and moon gravity with infinite boost to make for one heck of a race. the update is live and awaiting download. Simply turn on Motorstorm or enable automatic updates with the new firmware to obtain this delight. Source: PSblog

EyePet & Friends Will Have Two Pets to Play With

When the first Eye Pet was announced, my daughters were extremely excited. After being delayed over and over, it was finally released as a PS Move compatible game, and filled my home with enjoyment. The major issue at the time seemed to be that my two youngest daughters had to take turns. Well now, with todays announcement of Eye Pet and Friends, it seems like that will no longer be an issue. In Eye Pet and Friends there will now be the availability of two pets, either both controlled by one player, or each controlled by a separate player. The game is currently scheduled to be released “later this year.” We’ve socialized the game, now with two players, two PlayStation Move controllers, two Pets and augmented reality. Raise two on your own or together with a friend, let them hatch together or see if you can handle just one of the mischievous fur balls first – the choice is yours, but don’t forget that two EyePets born together may form a stronger bond with each other.
