[Giveaway] Resistance 3
Post apocalyptic America, Alien invasion, viruses, slim chances for survival and one tough son of a bitch! Resistance 3 picks up with former Army soldier Joseph Capelli who was dishonorably discharged due to an unfortunate event with former Resistance protagonist Nathan Hale, that I dare not spoil. After Joseph was discharged from the Army, he gave up fighting the Chimera and started a family of his own in a small underground outpost that housed a few of the surviving humans left on Earth. In the years that Joseph decided to give up fighting and lived as a family man the only way a hunted species could, he was later visited by a Russian scientist known as Fyodor Malikov. Malikov was a scientist who formally used humans as test experiments by mixing Chimeran DNA with theirs in order to create a vaccine for the Chimera virus. Joseph was not exactly on the best terms with Malikov and didn’t really lend him a helping ear. Malikov explained there was a Chimera tower in New York City that was opening a wormhole of sorts in the sky that was dropping the temperature of the planet drastically. He went on to say that if it wasn’t taken out of commission, humans would not be able to survive on Earth anymore. Joseph, being the former Chimera killer of sorts, was Malikov’s best bet in succeeding however Joseph turned him down immediately but only to be convinced shortly thereafter by his wife to do the right thing. This is where Resistance 3 begins. Joseph reluctantly takes up arms and escorts Malikov north through several trials and tribulations involving alien Chimeran, criminal humans and one eyes jack in the boxes…with the goal of reaching New York City to destroy the Chimera tower. On your adventures, you will obtain various Human and Chimera weapons with upgradeable features and secondary firing methods. To me, this is what sets Resistance apart from other FPS games. Many of the weapons were seen in previous Resistance games, however there are a few new ones to add to the arsenal. Here is a list of all weapons in Resistance 3. HE .44 Magnum – Powerful weapon with a secondary option to explode all bullets that have been fired. Shoot a Chimera, then hit the button to blow him and all parties guilty by association. Bullseye – a Chimeran rapid fire submachine gun with a large clip. Secondary fire allows you to tag an enemy and all rounds that follow the tag will go straight to the target regardless of what direction you are facing. Auger Mark II – Great weapon that allows you to both see and shoot through walls! Its secondary fire will deploy an energy shield that nothing can penetrate with the exception of Auger rounds. Marksman – a carbine that shoots in 3 round spurts. Its secondary fire will deploy a mini-turret that will take out troves of Chimerans while you wuss out behind a wall. Rossmore Shotgun – It’s a shotgun…that shoots stuff. It does have a useful secondary fire that deploys a concussive shot that knocks down enemies. Mutator – a chemical weapon developed in prison (don’t ask) that will turn enemies into exploding polycystic infections/your mom! It’s secondary fire will deploy a nauseous mist that will take down a crowd much like….your mom. Deadeye – Chimeran sniper rifle with a secondary shot of super-charged energy that is unstoppable. Atomizer – Shoots out a beam of electricity for crowd control. Secondary fire shoots out and orb that sucks Chimera into an electric vortex of spinning awesomeness. Sledgehammer – It’s a sledgehammer. You hit stuff. It’s secondary fire is hitting stuff again. Somehow….Sledgehammer has a flash light fixed to it much like your weapons…Yes I named it Sledgehammer. Please refer to him by name and not “the sledgehammer”. M5A2 Folsom Carbine – Standard military rifle with a grenade launcher attached as its secondary fire. Cryogun – Freezes stuff. Secondary fire is colder, much like your mo….never mind you get it. EMP Grenade – We all know what this is. If not, TOO BAD! Hedgehog Grenade – OMG!!! FLYING SONICS EVERYWHERE!!!! Oh wait..sorry…having flashbacks from the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary party…scary, scary people… Hedgehog grenade shoots flying spikes out in several directions killing everything huddled around the shiny spikey ball like idiots… Resistance has an unfortunate stigma in the industry that makes it feel like a forced series. Resistance 1 was a great launch title for the PS3, but going against the 360’s second generation FPS titles, it was a tough uphill battle despite how great Resistance 1 Fall of Man actually was. It’s multiplayer was ahead of its time. Resistance 2 was a complete transgression in the wrong direction from what Resistance really was all about. Many things were changed to make it more like your typical FPS in hopes of having the game garner greater traction with the consumer however that backfired as fans (myself included) shot back about how much we disliked the game. Resistance 3 is return to greatness. Not only is it the best Resistance to date, it quite possibly has one of the best single player campaigns of any FPS this generation. I completely enjoyed the campaign from beginning to end using the entire crazy and creative arsenal while loving the story the whole way. You will find yourself at war with not only the Chimeran, but some of the remaining human population as well. This reminds me of a Discovery Documentary I watched one time about the end of the world by alien viruses. It detailed how the remaining humans of the world would form small communities that don’t allow stranger in or out very easily, how religion (both current and newly formed ones) would take a strong foothold, how the more devious humans would steal and kill and how the Aliens would continue to attempt to eradicate the few remaining humans. All of this happens in Resistance….wonder if the developers watched this documentary…… Resistance 3 multiplayer is also a step up from the previous rendition. It has mostly your typical FPS online matches, however there are a couple of match types that set it apart from others and are very fun. With power ups like dopplegangers, energy shields, ammo & health area of effects, strategy is key and it never really gets old. In addition to multiplayer, Coop is another feature gracing Resistance for the 2nd time. You can play through the entire campaign with a friend helping each other out if your non-regenerating health gets depleted (in fact there is a trophy for doing this 20 times). With all of the greatness that is Resistance 3, it does have a few quarks. Glitches have been found all over the game, some making me want to kick kittens. In one scenario I was fighting a Widowmaker, a giant exoskeleton creature from what seems like Starship Troopers (not your mom). It has red areas that are susceptible to gunfire and as you destroy them, a couple others pop up. You continue replacing these red bulbous sacks with your ammo until it’s dead. Well at one point in the game these red spots go invincible. It’s completely random when and if it does and it took me eight attempts to get past this part. I know others who never had the problem even once, but I was FURIOUS after spending 10 minutes unloading ALL of my ammo into this thing several times over to finally figure out it was glitched. Other areas that I found glitches was when the geometry of the game fell out into pure whiteness. Thought I was in the matrix for a minute. I also had Chimerans spawn in my face at a dead gallop which normally puts me into a suicidal fight or flight mode that makes me yell and throw something at my feet…normally grenades. While these little annoying glitches do appear, they really don’t take away from the game overall. If you have held off on Resistance 1 and 2, but still have even the slightest inkling of interest in playing it, Resistance 3 will not let you down. Review Pros Cons Amazing storyline Deadley and unique arsenal Dynamic progression of the game Lot’s of glitches Previous entries of the series were sub par in ways No Nathan Hale!! Rating 85%

Blu-ray Releases for the Week of 8.22.11
I think it’s safe to say most of us are very excited about the (unfortunately delayed) PS Vita launch, but apparently that’s not how Lyle Hall and Matthew Seymour, developers at Heavy Iron Studios, feel. (on a side note, this studio is mostly responsible for adaptations from movies like Up, Wall-e, Incredibles and Ratatouille according to wikipedia ) These guys are really questioning the sales price of the product saying that “if people aren’t willing to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS why would they pay $299 for Vita?”. These guys believe mobile gaming is the future because “people don’t want to carry more than one thing in their pocket, that’s why Android and iPhone have done so well, they are the devices of choice, they offer multiple functions outside of gaming” Personally, I feel like he’s not talking about “hardcore gaming” and is mostly focusing on casual games, take this for example “The technology is sweet, I’m a huge fan of mobile technology, but I just don’t know there’s a market out there anymore for the hardware. I can’t see why you would want to put a device out that only does games”. What is the importance of the casual gamer in console sales numbers? That’s a question I feel would really help in this discussion, but I wonder if someone could even come up with such number. While I see the point he’s using, I’ll have to disagree because I don’t think people would use the PS Vita as a mobile phone even if it had the capacity to do so. It’s too big and awkward for that. Also, no other mobile device is capable of handling what the Vita will be able to. What do you guys think, is the Vita going to have a future similar to Nintendo’s 3DS or will it prevail in this time of multitasking? source

Is the PS Vita “a car wreck”?
Many remember him for his awkward participation in the movie Batman & Robin (1997), played by none other than the Governator himself in all his fuzzy slippers glory. This time, it seems like Mr. Freeze is really here as a great menace to The Bat. So be sure to check out this new Arkham City Reveal Trailer. It really seems that Dr. Victor Fries is stepping up his game in order to save his beloved wife. Do you think he’ll be the cold blooded killer to put down the great Batman, or should he change his name to Mr. Breeze? We’ll all find out when the game comes out 10/18/2011 (that’s October 18th in case you’re not American).

You rise and shine in a forest, the world around you is a mix of black, gray, and white. Armed with nothing but your own courage, you must begin your extremely far-fetched journey without any knowledge of how you arrived to your current location, or where your final resting-place is. All you know is that you must face the fear of the unknown and continue onward. Definition: Limbo A little bit of background if you didn’t know. Many christians used to believe and still do believe that if a child dies before it is baptized, then it goes to a place between heaven and hell called ‘Limbo’. Limbo was originally developed and published by Playdead Games for Xbox Live Arcade (you know, for the Xbox 360?) and released almost an entire year ago on July 21st, 2010. The gamereceived universal praise and was hailed as a shining example of video games as a valid art form. It’s proof of the fact that Indie developers rock, and in my opinion deserve way more credit (where credit is due)!! At its core, Limbo is a platformer combined with many puzzles throughout the experience. Playdead Games injected a plethora of robust puzzle physics that keep the experience mostly fresh through the 3 to 5 hour romp that is Limbo (depending on how many times you plan to die, or not, on your journey). There is no dialogue in Limbo and the only characters other than the child you play as are a hostile group of silent children that you never truly have an opportunity to interact with. The graphics here are utterly beautiful as the black and white old time feel gives an eerie sense of hidden danger to the game and keeps you focused on what is before you on screen. Limbo is a game for those who like to be challenged–constantly. To progress in the game, you’ll need to think creatively and find seemingly impossible solutions. Oftentimes, though, finding the solution is not the hardest part– carrying them out is. Many of the puzzles require precise timing (down to the last second), and even if you’ve successfully made it through before you won’t always nail it the first (or the thirteenth) time. When you do finally make it through, you are greeted by yet another seemingly impossible task. And then another. And another. And after that? A bit of peace and quiet… and then ANOTHER! The sound design is similarly minimalist, with very little music heard throughout the game, so the primary noise comes from the boy’s own footsteps. When another sound does invade the silence, it is immediately followed by a sense of dread for the player, as whatever is coming can probably kill you and ALSO wants to do just that. You'll hate this douche! Limbo shines most in its amazing story that doesn’t come together until the very end, which I shall not spoil (and that is open to many different interpretations and opinions). With the play time of Limbo, a $15 price tag may not appeal to most as many have criticized the vague ending of Limbo as a let down to the time invested in the experience. The flow of the game starts of strong at the beginning but tends to slow down in the middle, not really speeding up until the final sequences of the game. Though if one had to choose between the Xbox 360 version or the Playstation 3 version, one should go with the latter for Playdead Games added a very hidden level hidden level to the Playstation 3 version of Limbo: a ridiculously challenging experience that is enough to provoke a fist-fight with you and television. Turn up your TV volume as high as possible or you won’t have a fighting chance. On the other hand the 360 version has a leaderboard and extra hidden eggs but for me the extra level (and trophy) is a better deal. Simply put, Limbo is a title that deserves to be played by everyone. It really is more than just a game; it’s an experience unlike anything else. If you’re still unsure then you can always try the demo first, but every gamer owes it to himself to at least try this game. We’ll soon have a giveaway for Limbo (your chance to have your little own piece of black and white pre-hell for toddlers!) so be sure to stay with us! Review Pros Cons Artistic and creepy Challenging You won’t see any other game like LIMBO Ace says yes to Indie games Game can get stale at moments $14.99 is a bit too much Rating 85% Other Information Disclaimer – A copy of the game was provided by the publisher for this review. – Game was completed before writing this review – Total amount of time played: 8 hours.

LIMBO Review
Cars 2 the game is a racing game that features many of the famous characters from the Cars world in an intense multi-style racing game. Racing game modes consist of Regular Race, Survival, Battle, Attack to several other in the online mode. This game has it all, fast paced action, guns and girls…but don’t get your hopes up just yet action fans. Cars 2 is without a doubt mostly for kids but it has some small faults that I believe hinder it from hitting a wider audience. The very first thing I noticed about this game is that EVERYTHING is completely locked down until you complete a set of license based missions. When I first got the game to the house, my first thought was to toss it in, go to whatever free race mode it had and let me 4 year old son race away as he was a fan of the original Cars game on PS2 in which he happily still plays constantly. The problem was, the free race option was completely locked out until you unlock the level 2 of the C.H.R.O.M.E. license. While annoying, I set down to play the game while my son happily watched and about 30-45 minutes later I finally unlocked the free race mode for him and handed over the controller. On top of the license issue, there are many options to scroll through and for a 4 year old, it would seem to be a daunting task as they generally can’t really read much yet. Watching my son play the game clumsily, I figured it would be something he would tire of quickly. Well it seems the developers did some research on this more so than myself because three days later, I walked in on my son playing this game, navigating the menus, drifting, shooting weapons like he has been doing it forever. The ESRB clearly states the game is E for Everyone 10+ which I agree with, but younger kids can get a grasp on this game with some help. In between my son’s personal review process (which I’m sure he would give it a 15 out of 10), I spent my time unlocking all of the license C.H.R.O.M.E. missions as well as playing some multiplayer action. The missions are fun but repetitive. They offer a little story line intro and a set race type in which you need to earn a bronze, silver, or gold trophy in each race to gain a set number of points to unlock additional missions. The game is easy to play but fairly difficult to master. Higher level missions can be painstakingly annoying at time and I often had to race a few times even to obtain just a bronze trophy for the track. Multiplayer mode is where this game really shines. There are several game modes available and its fun for players of all ages period. Regardless of the small faults in this game, it delivers in many areas for all gamers. While the game is aiming at a 10 year old plus audience, younger children can play and enjoy this game. For the parents out there, there is no better game for you and your child to play together in various ways. Its a very family oriented and enjoyable game with many of the original voice actors from the movie. Review Pros Cons Great Voice Acting, Several Game Modes, Unique Racing Experiences Not For Younger Kids, Must Complete First Set of Missions to Play Free Race Rating 80% Other Information Disclaimer – A copy of the game was supplied by Foghorn PR for this review. – Total amount of time played: 30 hours plus. Anchor Bay Entertainment provided us a copy of the Tekken movie on Blu-ray to giveaway on PS3Blog.net! I never got around to see this movie. I heard from some of my friends it was good. Overall rating on Amazon at the moment is 3 1/2 stars. But most give it good ratings for a live action movie based on a video game. They did a decent job of picking martial arts actors that look similar to the characters of Tekken for the most part. Live action video game movies are usually pretty bad but a lot of people seem to like it according to many reviews I’ve read. Also speaking of Tekken are you going to see Tekken: Blood Vengeance 3D this coming Tuesday? One night only, so get your tickets now if your interested. I have my tickets. Here are some screens from the Blu-ray. More available here . This time we are just doing the lottery method. So use the button below to enter this contest. Each entry is 150 points. But lucky for you we have double points active. You can enter up to 3 times. Good Luck. You have until midnight MST on July 28th to get your entries in. Winner will be picked at random on July 29th.

[Giveaway] Tekken Blu-ray
I listened to a local news story about how video games are causing marital issues. They reported that 15% of women say their husbands’ obsession with gaming is cause for their divorce. It was only 5% a year ago in the same survey. I think part of this is due to them not working out the real issues in their marriage, or maybe it’s just that some guys are really addicted to games and don’t care about anything else. If you are playing games for 8+ hours every day, and your aren’t getting paid to do it, I think that’s a little much for a married guy. Unless your wife if out of town. Then get in all the gaming you can! I’m married myself and I don’t game as much anymore. More so because I’m busy with other things; having less money to spend on games is a issue as well, but I also make time to spend with my wife. When I do play games, it’s usually when my wife is working on her own project or is out of the house. Sometimes she works on her projects on the couch and I sit by her and play my games. We do play together, but that’s a rare thing. The game we’ve been playing together lately is Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. She also plays her own games on the computer from time to time, like the classic Burger Time or Reversi . Honestly, I think wives are to eager to attack their husbands for playing video games because they already have a bad rap, so it’s an easy target. They need to be understanding that this is something men enjoy, and to let them have their gaming time. Men don’t complain about when their wife does scrap booking, watching soaps, shopping (unless they get to go with, noooooo), Facebook, etc. But that doesn’t mean husbands can spend all their time gaming and leave no time for their wife either. There needs to be a balance, it’s up to you to find that balance. Better yet, try to get her to play games with you! How do you get your gaming time in? Does your wife bother you about your gaming or is she more understanding? What are your thoughts on this matter?
