You rise and shine in a forest, the world around you is a mix of black, gray, and white. Armed with nothing but your own courage, you must begin your extremely far-fetched journey without any knowledge of how you arrived to your current location, or where your final resting-place is. All you know is that you must face the fear of the unknown and continue onward. Definition: Limbo A little bit of background if you didn’t know. Many christians used to believe and still do believe that if a child dies before it is baptized, then it goes to a place between heaven and hell called ‘Limbo’. Limbo was originally developed and published by Playdead Games for Xbox Live Arcade (you know, for the Xbox 360?) and released almost an entire year ago on July 21st, 2010. The gamereceived universal praise and was hailed as a shining example of video games as a valid art form. It’s proof of the fact that Indie developers rock, and in my opinion deserve way more credit (where credit is due)!! At its core, Limbo is a platformer combined with many puzzles throughout the experience. Playdead Games injected a plethora of robust puzzle physics that keep the experience mostly fresh through the 3 to 5 hour romp that is Limbo (depending on how many times you plan to die, or not, on your journey). There is no dialogue in Limbo and the only characters other than the child you play as are a hostile group of silent children that you never truly have an opportunity to interact with. The graphics here are utterly beautiful as the black and white old time feel gives an eerie sense of hidden danger to the game and keeps you focused on what is before you on screen. Limbo is a game for those who like to be challenged–constantly. To progress in the game, you’ll need to think creatively and find seemingly impossible solutions. Oftentimes, though, finding the solution is not the hardest part– carrying them out is. Many of the puzzles require precise timing (down to the last second), and even if you’ve successfully made it through before you won’t always nail it the first (or the thirteenth) time. When you do finally make it through, you are greeted by yet another seemingly impossible task. And then another. And another. And after that? A bit of peace and quiet… and then ANOTHER! The sound design is similarly minimalist, with very little music heard throughout the game, so the primary noise comes from the boy’s own footsteps. When another sound does invade the silence, it is immediately followed by a sense of dread for the player, as whatever is coming can probably kill you and ALSO wants to do just that. You'll hate this douche! Limbo shines most in its amazing story that doesn’t come together until the very end, which I shall not spoil (and that is open to many different interpretations and opinions). With the play time of Limbo, a $15 price tag may not appeal to most as many have criticized the vague ending of Limbo as a let down to the time invested in the experience. The flow of the game starts of strong at the beginning but tends to slow down in the middle, not really speeding up until the final sequences of the game. Though if one had to choose between the Xbox 360 version or the Playstation 3 version, one should go with the latter for Playdead Games added a very hidden level hidden level to the Playstation 3 version of Limbo: a ridiculously challenging experience that is enough to provoke a fist-fight with you and television. Turn up your TV volume as high as possible or you won’t have a fighting chance. On the other hand the 360 version has a leaderboard and extra hidden eggs but for me the extra level (and trophy) is a better deal. Simply put, Limbo is a title that deserves to be played by everyone. It really is more than just a game; it’s an experience unlike anything else. If you’re still unsure then you can always try the demo first, but every gamer owes it to himself to at least try this game. We’ll soon have a giveaway for Limbo (your chance to have your little own piece of black and white pre-hell for toddlers!) so be sure to stay with us! LIMBO Review
Cars 2 the game is a racing game that features many of the famous characters from the Cars world in an intense multi-style racing game. Racing game modes consist of Regular Race, Survival, Battle, Attack to several other in the online mode. This game has it all, fast paced action, guns and girls…but don’t get your hopes up just yet action fans. Cars 2 is without a doubt mostly for kids but it has some small faults that I believe hinder it from hitting a wider audience. The very first thing I noticed about this game is that EVERYTHING is completely locked down until you complete a set of license based missions. When I first got the game to the house, my first thought was to toss it in, go to whatever free race mode it had and let me 4 year old son race away as he was a fan of the original Cars game on PS2 in which he happily still plays constantly. The problem was, the free race option was completely locked out until you unlock the level 2 of the C.H.R.O.M.E. license. While annoying, I set down to play the game while my son happily watched and about 30-45 minutes later I finally unlocked the free race mode for him and handed over the controller. On top of the license issue, there are many options to scroll through and for a 4 year old, it would seem to be a daunting task as they generally can’t really read much yet. Watching my son play the game clumsily, I figured it would be something he would tire of quickly. Well it seems the developers did some research on this more so than myself because three days later, I walked in on my son playing this game, navigating the menus, drifting, shooting weapons like he has been doing it forever. The ESRB clearly states the game is E for Everyone 10+ which I agree with, but younger kids can get a grasp on this game with some help. In between my son’s personal review process (which I’m sure he would give it a 15 out of 10), I spent my time unlocking all of the license C.H.R.O.M.E. missions as well as playing some multiplayer action. The missions are fun but repetitive. They offer a little story line intro and a set race type in which you need to earn a bronze, silver, or gold trophy in each race to gain a set number of points to unlock additional missions. The game is easy to play but fairly difficult to master. Higher level missions can be painstakingly annoying at time and I often had to race a few times even to obtain just a bronze trophy for the track. Multiplayer mode is where this game really shines. There are several game modes available and its fun for players of all ages period. Regardless of the small faults in this game, it delivers in many areas for all gamers. While the game is aiming at a 10 year old plus audience, younger children can play and enjoy this game. For the parents out there, there is no better game for you and your child to play together in various ways. Its a very family oriented and enjoyable game with many of the original voice actors from the movie. Anchor Bay Entertainment provided us a copy of the Tekken movie on Blu-ray to giveaway on PS3Blog.net! I never got around to see this movie. I heard from some of my friends it was good. Overall rating on Amazon at the moment is 3 1/2 stars. But most give it good ratings for a live action movie based on a video game. They did a decent job of picking martial arts actors that look similar to the characters of Tekken for the most part. Live action video game movies are usually pretty bad but a lot of people seem to like it according to many reviews I’ve read. Also speaking of Tekken are you going to see Tekken: Blood Vengeance 3D this coming Tuesday? One night only, so get your tickets now if your interested. I have my tickets. Here are some screens from the Blu-ray. More available here . This time we are just doing the lottery method. So use the button below to enter this contest. Each entry is 150 points. But lucky for you we have double points active. You can enter up to 3 times. Good Luck. You have until midnight MST on July 28th to get your entries in. Winner will be picked at random on July 29th.

[Giveaway] Tekken Blu-ray
I listened to a local news story about how video games are causing marital issues. They reported that 15% of women say their husbands’ obsession with gaming is cause for their divorce. It was only 5% a year ago in the same survey. I think part of this is due to them not working out the real issues in their marriage, or maybe it’s just that some guys are really addicted to games and don’t care about anything else. If you are playing games for 8+ hours every day, and your aren’t getting paid to do it, I think that’s a little much for a married guy. Unless your wife if out of town. Then get in all the gaming you can! I’m married myself and I don’t game as much anymore. More so because I’m busy with other things; having less money to spend on games is a issue as well, but I also make time to spend with my wife. When I do play games, it’s usually when my wife is working on her own project or is out of the house. Sometimes she works on her projects on the couch and I sit by her and play my games. We do play together, but that’s a rare thing. The game we’ve been playing together lately is Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. She also plays her own games on the computer from time to time, like the classic Burger Time or Reversi . Honestly, I think wives are to eager to attack their husbands for playing video games because they already have a bad rap, so it’s an easy target. They need to be understanding that this is something men enjoy, and to let them have their gaming time. Men don’t complain about when their wife does scrap booking, watching soaps, shopping (unless they get to go with, noooooo), Facebook, etc. But that doesn’t mean husbands can spend all their time gaming and leave no time for their wife either. There needs to be a balance, it’s up to you to find that balance. Better yet, try to get her to play games with you! How do you get your gaming time in? Does your wife bother you about your gaming or is she more understanding? What are your thoughts on this matter?

Are Video Games Causing Marital Trouble?

The video after the jump is a collaboration of the social aspects to the Playstation Vita detailing cross game voice chat, party chat, game sharing, invites and online multiplayer. About 1 minute in the video there is a little skit on the multiplayer aspect of the Vita showing off Resistance. Now I’m sure it is in the pre-alpha stage at this time but this confirms that they plan on putting competitive multiplayer in Resistance which has not been mentioned before. This is great news and I’m sure we can expect many more announcements and hidden gems like this for some time to come.

Mystery Gravy A lot of things about the Vita are still largely unknown. To start with, Konami’s “Transfarring” phrase that was coined prior to E3 and mentioned numerous times at Konami’s pre-recorded E3 video. Konami has stated that all future Kojima Productions games will be Transfarring enabled. Does that mean that the games will be playable on both the PS3 and the Vita or some other type of connectivity? If they are playable on both, will we need to purchase both copies individually or will they come bulked together? Above and beyond simply playing the game, many online modes are said to be cross platform between the PS3 and the Vita. Wipeout 2048 is one example of this happening. The way it sounds, only certain maps will be playable between the two units. Capcom’s Streetfighter X Tekken also states that there will be some connectivity between the Vita and the PS3 which I assume means online competition. While we are discussing online, how about Dust 514? A battle taking place in the universe of the MMO Eve, yet Dust is an MMO in its own right or so the dev says. Somehow this game will have a Vita connection that will be playable and works with the PC/PS3 version of this MMO. The ingredients making up the Vita and its online seems to be largely unknown and a company secret. Post E3 Taste Review I had a chance to test out several little morsels of Vita that left me wanting more. Each had their own palatable sapidity. BlazBlue-Continuum Shift II Plus I had some alone time with this game in the SCEE private showing room on the top floor on the very last day. I have to admit that I am not very aware of the BlazBlue series and I have not played it before. The game moved and played flawlessly yet the characters movements felt clunky. I attribute that to the type of game it is and my ignorance of said game rather then a subsequent Vita issue. The game looked glorious however. BlazBlue-Continuum Shift II Plus tastes like a chocolate covered biscuit/cookie a la Pocky. Surely to appease the Japanese fans. Hot Shots Golf Next Another game I fiddled with and had no idea what I was doing. While looking beautiful, I could not figure out how to hit the ball. Trying to use the touch screen, I kept lifting my golfer off of the fairway and into the air scaring the bejesus out of her. I’m sure had I started the game from scratch, there would have been a tutorial explaining everything to me. For Hot Shots Golf fans, I think you will be pleased. Reminds me of a subway sandwhich. Then again, maybe I watched too much Happy Gilmore. Little Devients A collection of mini-games using all of the Vita’s new control schemes yet it feels full. I played a few different levels of this game that used the camera, touch screen, back touch pad and sixaxis. Many of them at the same time to the point I was even worried about dropping it at one point. Despite the fear I would drop “my precious” into the fiery pits of Mordor, I had a great time wiping green slime from the Vita screen. This will be a fan favorite for fans of Eye Pets and most iPod games. Little Deviants gives a sweet but salty flavor with a hint of green slime. Little Big Planet The classic and ever popular LBP but this time on the Vita. I will say one thing about this game. Best version ever! The multiple touch controls on both the front and back as well as many other types of controls that come natively with the Vita allow for a much deeper experience. From moving objects with your finger, spinning wheels or making your sackboy (or girl) follow your finger underwater inside of a bubble, this version rocks. This is a hot fudge sundae covered in caramel and whipped cream with brownies! Sound Shapes Music at your fingertips in the form of an artistic platform game. Making music by solving the puzzles of many puzzles to progress through a basic but beautiful platforming world. The game was fun but I often got annoyed at trying to jump to other platforms without dying. It surely will be a favorite among many Vita owners however. I get a ring pop flavor from this one. Uncharted: Golden Abyss Nathan Drake? On a handheld? Thats just as good as the HD versions? No need for a description of this game. It tastes like Winning! Virtua Tennis 4 Not a tennis fan, but I did enjoy my time with this game. I was capable of putting top spin or bottom spin on the tennis ball with the front touch screen. It can be a little easy at times, but that could just be the demo itself that I played. Tastes like Avian water.

I couldn’t pass up a chance to try this out. In the demo you can control a helicopter or a fighter jet. First I tried out the helicopter, the battle takes place in a city. You assist other troops on the ground. Targets include regular guys with rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns, trucks & tanks. When you are close enough you can lock onto a target and use your mounted machine guns or 2 different types of missiles in this demo. Sometimes when you take out a target you get a nice quick cut scene of the destruction then right back into action. Near the end of the demo you get to take on a few enemy helicopters. Then you finish the demo off with taking out a bridge with supply trucks on it. The helicopter is easy to control after you get used to the layout. I didn’t like using cockpit view in the helicopter because sometimes the target is hidden behind the pillar of the cockpit. So I stayed in either 3rd person view or 1st person view. The graphics of the game are good too, everything is pretty detailed. Sometimes on the close up cut-scenes it didn’t look as polished, but then again this is a early build of the game. It was very satisfying to launch missiles and in the process take out a big cluster of enemies on the ground with a grand explosion. I didn’t play the full demo with the fighter jet, be enough to get a good feeling on the game. I jumped in halfway threw the demo after somebody left the game. My goal at the time was to take out the leader and following planes. When you get close enough you can press L1+R1 (I think) and that takes you into the close up chase view you have seen in the trailers. The game auto-pilots for you at this point so it follows the plane wherever it goes. But don’t think it’s easy at this point. You can’t just sit there and fire off bullets or rockets. It’s still a challenge to take the plane down. It’s very rewarding when you finally take them down. Overall I enjoyed the game, just wish I had more time with it to really get used to the plane as well. I’m really looking forward to Ace Combat: Assault Horizon which is out October 11, 2011 in the USA and October 14, 2011 in the UK.

[E3 2011] Hands On – Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
We knew about this for a while since it was leaked from an Asian “soon to be released” list of games but it’s nice to have official confirmation. You’ll get Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta on a single Bluray disc with Dualshock 3 controls (two analogs sticks, just as you’ve liked it on the PS2-PS3 all this time!), trophies, 3D stereoscopic presentation (for your 3D stereoscopic displaying TV) and bonus content. No price has been set but a release of 9-13-11 has been set on a blood covered stone protected by titanium chains. Just to clarify, that’s September 13, 2011 for the international gamers visiting the site as, last time I checked, the year has still not grown a new and improved month. I’ll be skipping them since I got Chains of Olympus on PSP for $10 and JUST bought Ghost of Sparta when it was 50% on the PSN store so, even if it has trophies, it’s still too early to play those on the big screen. Great for those that don’t own a PSP or that, for some reason, haven’t bought two of the best games the system has to offer. Who is running out the door to pre-order?
