New PlayStation 3 Exclusive Teased

Set for a full reveal on Spike TV’s Video Game Awards Saturday December 10th at 8p ET, SCEA has released a teaser trailer for a new PS3 exclusive that appears to be called “The Last of Us”. There’s no gameplay footage in the teaser trailers shown but from the looks of it the world has gone to Hell. The above is just one of the trailers you’ll find on the game’s official website . Another trailer shows an ant infected with Ophiocordyceps camponoti-balzani, a fungi that turns certain insects into “zombies”. It controls the host body and takes it to an ideal growing spot where it then kills the insect by sprouting from it’s brain, as a knowledgeable viewer pointed out on YouTube. This could indicate that “The Last of Us” is another survival horror/ zombie title.

Jurassic Park: The Game Looking Quite Promising

A while back, Telltale Games got the rights to create games based off of both Back to the Future and Jurassic Park universes. With Back to the Future: The Game having been finished (and being reviewed by EdEN), the promised Jurassic Park game is set to release on November 15th. Out of all the trailers released for this game up to this point, they didn’t show too much, but I did find the death sequences video funny. This one is a little more intense. When I was a kid, dinosaurs were awesome, and when Jurassic Park released in 1993, my mind exploded. I still have some of that child-like curiosity, and because of that, I want to play this and hope it’s good. It may not be my dream dinosaur game (a reboot of Capcom’s Dino Crisis franchise would be killer), but I’m hoping Telltale Games does good with it. I enjoyed Back to the Future at least.

[E3 2011] NFS: The Run Trailer Shows Game’s Intensity

E3 showed off some PS3 gameplay for Need for Speed: The Run at E3 this year, and it is rather obvious from the trailer that it’s taking the series in a completely different direction. It starts out pretty standard, with the main character getting involved in a street race. After causing one opponent to wreck, you continue on with the race, until you’re side-swiped by a couple cops. After an on-foot chase (yes, you read that right, but I don’t think you control it outside of a QTE here and there), you hide in an alleyway, where more policemen are searching for you. After one leaves, you round the corner, fight the other officer, and then steal the cruiser, where your new goal is to now escape the city. Though your escape is set on a linear path, bullets from the PD’s helicopter bounce off of you, threatening to kill your vehicle. Eventually, you make it to the train yard, and wreck after the helicopter shoots a tanker and causes it to explode. The car is flipped on a train track, and now you have to escape before the train runs you over. More QTEs take place, but, in the video, the main character manages to escape before the train hits him. I am sure if he didn’t make it in time, it would have been game over. Is a lot of this ridiculous and make-believe? Yes, especially helicopters firing rounds with a busy city chasing a criminal. But is it intense? Yes. With that said, I’ll have to keep my eye on this one and see what it has in store. Until then, I’m not quite sure if I like the on-foot sections or not, let alone the abundance of QTEs. Especially for what is essentially a racing game series. To see the 7 minute gameplay demonstration, check it out below!

[E3 2011] LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers on Vita: Perfect Match

If you’ve watched some of the gameplay demonstrations of the Vita during the conference, besides the obvious hit that will be Uncharted: Golden Abyss, a couple other titles were shown based on PS3 franchises, namely LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers, the two games that really spearheaded the Play, Create, Share movement we’re starting to see from other developers. And I gotta say, these titles seem to be right at home on this handheld. Much more so than PSP. I would even go so far as to say that these versions of the games may very well be the best versions. ModNation Racers was shown first, showing off much improved load times over the PS3 version. But that wasn’t the coolest bit. What really stood out was the use of the touchpad on the back and the touchscreen. You can literally draw out your track on the screen, and when you’re editing the track after drawing it out, you can easily use your fingers to create jumps, or raise or lower the background scenery. Although it looked a little jumpy, being able to do that is still a very intuitive way of editing tracks. You even have access to all of the creations from the PS3 version as well. And then you have LittleBigPlanet. After seeing the trailer for this one, I was awestruck. It looks great (could pass as PS3 quality), and the new types of play mechanics available (that, from a gameplay standpoint, aren’t even possible on the PS3 titles) instantly makes this a must-have. From using the system’s tilt functionality to being able to play little board games with friends on the same screen, there’s a lot of possibilities as far as creativity goes, and I will definitely have to pick that title up upon release. Be sure to watch the videos below!

E3 2011: Uncharted 3, Oh My!

As you’d imagine, the latest from Naughty Dog looks unbelievable! They debuted a fresh trailer for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception during Sony’s E3 press conference this evening, confirming the appearance of both Chloe and Elena in the hotly-anticipated adventure sequel. The Trailer The footage showcased a heap of new areas and set-pieces, including Drake dangling precariously from the back of a cargo plane. In addition, Naughty Dog interestingly announced that they have teamed up with everyone’s favourite purveyour of sandwiches Subway in order to provide US Subway customers with early access to a fully complete version of the competitive multiplayer in October, one month before the finished game is released in November. The Boat Gameplay The latest version of gameplay included a large boat area with dazzling rain and outdoor wave water effects. The interior of the vessel held dark, moody lighting and trademark stealth play. Drake subsequently sets off an explosive in the carrier causing an influx of water to knock the entire level off balance. I’ve heard the graphics engine held at 39 frames-per-second. Looks like another good year for Sony, if you ask me.

[E3 2011] NGP Named PSVita, Confirmed for Holiday 2011, Price Revealed

In what was their closing commentary, Sony has confirmed that the PSVita (yes, that’s officially the name; I don’t much care for it) will be launching this holiday season, and for the price of $249.99/€ ($299.99/€ for 3G model). Well within the reach of many people. I’d guess a calendar date will be mentioned soon. It has been long suspected that the system would retail for a higher price, namely at least in the $300-$350 range, given the amount of technology crammed into the handheld. The games alone are simply stunning and even offer some experiences you can’t get on it’s big brother, the PS3. With that kind of price, it would be kind of hard to not want to get one. Also, for the record, eat it EdEN, you naysayer Be sure to check out the announcement video after the jump.

PlayStation Store US/EU Update for January 25/26

Highlights Kind of a small update this week. To start things off, if you’re looking for sales on a few highly rated PSN titles, we reported about the 11 for ’11 sale yesterday, which has started today. Get them at half price while the sale lasts! Also on sale is the Super Complete Alt. Costume pack for SSFIV; Top Gun also receives a permanent price drop today as well. Now, Dead Space Extraction is available for purchase on the PSN as well. It’s basically an on-rails shooter that first appeard on the Wii. I thought the game was pretty cool for what it’s worth; graphics are now in HD, but the game doesn’t have that current-gen look like Dead Space 2 has, but it’s neat that we have it available for the PS3 anyway. If you are unsure about getting it, you can also pick up the demo to give you a basic idea of the gameplay. While there, the Bulletstorm demo is available for download as well, but keep in mind it’s a single player only demo; you can play it to try to win one of two prizes, though! Just read Oly’s preceding post on that giveaway. If you’re looking for spicing up your PSN profile, there are a bunch of new avatars to purchase as well (which you can preview in Luke’s post here ). There are 40 in all, including some from RDR, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and GTAIV. Other than that, not much else. If you’re into some of David Bowie’s stuff, there is a pack you can get for Rock Band 3. I like a couple of the songs there myself . The Weekly Recap Extreme (December 19th-January 15th)

Update Due to an overall lack of interest in the recaps, I have decided to change it up a little bit. Some of the changes will be reflected here, but thanks to Tosh, the Recap process will be a lot more streamlined and I can get them out much faster than usual. This means it shouldn’t take me very long at all (well, except for maybe this one, which will be a 4 week recap, but it will get finished a lot faster than the last one). With that said, One of the updates you will see will be the formatting of the post lists. It now includes the number of comments. Of course, this is total comments, as I can’t really be bothered to look at how many comments were made for the week and which ones were made . With that said, we were also going to try to implement Likes into it as well, but it wouldn’t work, so I will be doing that the old-fashioned way. I was going to find out Most Likes through the AddThis service, which tracks the number of shares a topic got for the week, but doesn’t appear to track the number of likes. Now, a couple other updates for future recaps. The images and links usually posted at the bottom of this tab will likely be replaced . I will also be dropping the Poll Results and New Poll post and implementing it into the Weekly Recap, which means that we need more poll ideas , since it will be a weekly matter now. With that said, a few things might still change, but that’s the main stuff. Enjoy! UPDATE: Here’s the new link section! December 19th-25th If you missed it, during the Christmas weekend, we did have triple points , but only a few of you capitalized on that. Also, if you haven’t noticed, this was when we also have the ability to, essentially, pop-out the chat window, so you can browse other sites, etc and still have a window open to talk to people on the site. Some of it has changed since it initially went into effect, but you now have the ability to either keep it in the sidebar or pop it out. During this week, we had the Photo contest going on for Gran Turismo 5. Winners have since been chosen (as will be pointed out in the next week’s recap). There was also a tournament planned, but had to be postponed due to me getting the YLOD. This tournament will be resumed when I get that fixed . 15 Articles // 5 QuickNews Contributor of the Week Luke – 5 Entries QuickNews Contributor of the Week kennygk & Luke- 2 Entries Most Liked Eddie – Infamous Comic to be Released by DC Comics and Sucker Punch – 3 Likes Most Comments Eddie – Sega Holiday Sales on PSN and SNK Discounts for Playstation Plus Members – 26 Comments New COD DLC Announced – PS3 Gamers Are 2nd Best Again Madagasca on December 20th, 2010 15 Comments Infamous Comic to be Released by DC Comics and Sucker Punch Eddie L. Deus Ex: Human Revolution Gameplay Video

I remember trying the old Deus Ex games but I just never got into them. I actually went back and tried playing Deus Ex to get in the zone for when Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out but I just couldn’t do it. The graphics are just to old, I guess I’ve been spoiled by todays’ tech. I have to say that after following some of the news for this game I will have to find a way to try this out. The music sounds amazing, the trailers so far have been stellar, and now to add a little more flavor we get some gameplay footage. What do you all think?
