EA just released the launch trailer for the Ultimate Edition of their highly successful Battlefield Bad Company 2 . The package contains a plethora of extra-content including — Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the co-op expansion Onslaught Mode, and 6 immediate unlocks for vehicle and weapon upgrades. The package will also include the full version of Battlefield 1943 . Not a bad thing to own if you’ve yet to purchase the game. The Ultimate Edition is now available for sale across all leading retailers.

PS3 Tops 38 Million Worldwide

GI.biz is reporting that Sony has announced the PlayStation 3 has topped 38 million consoles worldwide (and the PlayStation Network connection rate is 70%). This puts the console within 4 million units of its most immediate competition. Other notes include that software sales are up 38% over last year, and the average Metacritic score for the PS3 is 80, compared to the 360’s 77.

2K admits PS3 version of Mafia II inferior to others

2K Games has admitted on its official forums that the PlayStation 3 version of Mafia II will be inferior as compared to the Xbox 360 and PC version of the game. Responding to fans criticism over the lack of grass details, large pools of blood and less-visible cloth movement as compared to others on the recently released demo, 2K’s senior manager of interactive marketing Elizabeth Tobey says: See what he says after the jump “When designing Mafia II , we optimized for each of the three different systems the game would run on to make sure the core experience was the best it could be. Because of this, there are some differences from one platform to the next. In terms of the PS3 version, I wanted to clarify a couple points you have been asking about: There will not be highly detailed grass or large pools of blood, the cloth movement is less noticeable than, for example, the PC version, and the visual fidelity in the demo is generally representative of what you’ll see in the full game.” Our aim is to make a cohesive and immersive experience and optimize the game for each platform so that it could run its best. And while there are some differences between each version, I’m sure you’ll find that the core gameplay and the heart of Mafia II remains no matter whether you play on PS3, 360, or PC. Mafia II will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on 24th August.

Swedish retailer lists GTA V for pre-order

Rumblings and mumblings of a new Grand Theft Auto title has been going around for quite some time now. However, Rockstar has been tight-lipped about it and so we still do not know for sure if GTA V really is in the works. A Swedish online retailer, however, has boldly listed the game for a 2011 release. Webhallen.com has reportedly listed GTA V for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 for pre-order. It’s not straight out from Rockstar itself, but it sure gives the feel that an announcement will be made on this pretty soon. [ Webhallen.com via RockstarBase ]

Is a beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops getting ready to roll out? Seems like that’s the case, according to an ad over at Bing.com. An ad on the righthand side of the “black ops mp teaser download link” page shows this suspicious looking byline. “Sign up for your Beta Key now. Be the first to test.” If sign ups are now open, then there definitely is something cooking for Black Ops’ beta phase. The only thing is that Activision or Treyarch has yet to say anything on the matter. Still, you can check out the ad for yourself by clicking on the source link below. PS3 Netflix service gets a search option

We’re still waiting for Netflix to go disc-less, but in the meantime, the service providers have delivered on the UI improvements like they promised. Crytek: Crysis 2 has ‘the most advanced AI system in a game’

Crytek is adding a lot of extra bells and whistles to Crysis 2 , and chief among those is an upgraded enemy AI. So, just how smart will your enemies be? Pretty damn smart, or so Crytek boss Cevat Yerli says. “We have the most advanced AI system in a game,” Yerli told CVG. “We think that Crysis 2 has the most advanced AI for both humans and aliens you’ve ever seen. They will be showing tactical co-ordination, they will be more challenging but not unfair – they will be truly intelligent, thinking, fair enemies.” Yerli further stated that even though Crysis 2 will give players a lot of freedom in how they approach obstacles, the game’s enemies will also take advantage of that. These aren’t your usual cannon fodder but “an enemy that adapts to freedom and provides you constant challenge no matter what you do.” Via [ CVG ]

Sony: Microsoft or Nintendo Will Kick Off Eighth Console Generation

Talk is starting up again about Sony’s next home console, but according to Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida, they likely won’t be the ones to kick the next generation off. Speaking to Develop, Yoshida said he believes either Nintendo or Microsoft will release their next generation consoles first. “Looking from the outside, it was Microsoft that released the first of this generation of consoles. Naturally, in my opinion, Microsoft will make the first move. “Or, because Nintendo’s approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware – Wii doesn’t even support HD resolution – so they might be the first to move. “Probably the watch should be on these companies, in my opinion.
